Chapter 44:  CONFUSIONS

Steven's eyelids fluttered open, the harsh fluorescent lights above his hospital bed piercing through the fog that clouded his consciousness. The beeping of machines echoed in the sterile room, the white walls looming like a suffocating shroud. He tried to move, but his body felt heavy, as if it had been anchored down. His mind was fragmented, pieces of his memory floating just beyond his grasp.

What happened?

A familiar voice broke through the haze—Juliet’s. It was filled with relief, trembling with emotion.

“Steven! Oh, thank God you’re awake!” Juliet rushed to his side, her tear-filled eyes glowing with joy, though her face was etched with worry.

Her words seemed to echo, barely reaching him through the dull fog in his mind. Steven blinked, trying to focus, but the room remained blurry.
