CHAPTER 48

Mr. Harrison rose from his seat with a confused face; Allen paused, wondering what was wrong with Jack.

“What’s going on, talk to me?” Mr. Harrison called out, with his voice etched with panic.

Jack tried to utter a word, but a metallic taste filled his mouth. He coughed, and suddenly blood splashed across, staining the tablecloth with a dark red droplet. He felt a surge of panic within him when he realised something was wrong.

Their minds raced when they noticed the stain; Mr. Harrison and Hilda exchanged worrisome glances at each other. Jack glanced at Allen, who was unmoved by what was happening to him. Jack knew he had been poisoned, but how? Was this a set-up?

“Jack.” Mr. Harrison called with his heart filled with shock and fear. He rushed towards Jack’s side. Grabbing his shoulder to steady him, Jack faced downward as he continued coughing out blood.

“Someone calls the ambulance; someone calls an ambulance.” Allen paused what he was doing and took his phone to call the ambul
