Chapter 7

This evening, Sarah made an atypical appearance at dinner, descending the stairs alongside her partner Ray. Among the guests were her cousin Alice and her husband, who held a prestigious position as the director of the Department of Planning and Development (DPD). Almost immediately, the other guests, all Peters, rushed to flatter and curry favor with the high-ranking guest - all except for Ray and his wife, Monica.

Alice, with her husband in tow, took a seat and sneered at the couple. "Look at them, so arrogant. Isn't this our favorite running duo?" Sarah shot her cousin a sharp glance before turning her attention to her phone. Ignored, Alice grew increasingly hostile. "What are you so proud of? Let's see how tough you are after running three miles in a bikini tomorrow!"

Ray, however, wasn't having it. He looked at Alice and shook his head, "Lori always looks beautiful, no matter what she wears - unlike you. If you stood naked next to your husband, it would only remind us of some cartoon images." Alice was taken aback and demanded an explanation, to which Ray replied with a sly smile, "Are you sure you want to know? I'm not sure you can handle it." Alice, thinking Ray was backing down, stood up triumphantly.

"Ray, I'm sorry but I cannot allow you to continue speaking like that. Please explain what you meant by your previous statement," Alice said firmly, her tone indicating that she meant business. She wanted to ensure that her family's dinner table remained a respectful and comfortable environment for everyone.

Ray let out a resigned sigh before responding, "Alright, I'll clarify what I meant. In cartoons, it's common to see male characters without shirts on. It's not a big deal, just an observation." Sarah couldn't help but giggle at Ray's explanation, although she knew it wasn't appropriate to make fun of Alice's appearance.

Alice was still a bit confused, but as the others at the table caught on to Ray's joke, she began to understand what he meant. Feeling embarrassed, she covered her chest with her arms, her face turning red. She was grateful when Monica spoke up and asked them to move on from the topic.

Later on in the dinner, Ryan shared some exciting news about obtaining tickets to a welcome party for Mr. Garcia. He hoped that by bringing Alice with him, they would catch the attention of Mr. Garcia and secure a lucrative contract. Monica was thrilled at the prospect and urged Ryan to confirm that he was serious.

As the family finished up their meal, Alice felt a sense of relief that the awkward moment had passed. She also felt excited at the prospect of attending the welcome party and potentially securing a bright future for her family.

Ryan's smile was bashful as he nodded in agreement. "I wouldn't joke about something like this," he said seriously. "The Garcia family from Capiton is one of the most influential families around here. Rumor has it that the person they sent is young, but highly respected. Many high-ranking officials are coming to pay their respects. In three days, I'm sure there will be a lot of big shots showing up at Oscorp Corporation ."

Monica looked at Alice and beamed. "Alice, you are one lucky woman. Look at how intelligent your husband is. He's not like those good-for-nothing types who bring trouble to their families. They annoy me just by existing."

Tristan chimed in, "Grandma is right. Ray, put down your fork and knife. You're not starving, so don't eat like it. You're a son-in-law of our family, so don't be such a loser. Compared to Alice's husband, you're like a dog!"

Ryan's smile faded, and he spoke slowly and thoughtfully. "Tristan, I have to disagree with you. How can you compare Ray to a dog?"

Tristan was taken aback but soon regained his composure and smiled wryly. "It was just an analogy. I'll be more careful with my words in the future."

Ryan's expression became serious as he looked at Tristan. "You should definitely be more careful with your words. By comparing Ray to a dog, you're insulting the dogs."
