Chapter 4: Suspicion

Alice looked at her mother with a mixture of astonishment and skepticism.

However, she refrained from asking any further questions and simply said, "Mom, it's best if you take him to the hospital first."

Indeed, Alice's brother was still writhing and yelling on the ground, attracting the attention of many passersby.

Her mother pursed her lips, seemingly surprised by Alice's reaction to her words.

However, under Alice's gaze, she couldn't say anything more and could only urge her son to leave.

Alice didn't even glance at them as she continued walking forward.

Suddenly, she spoke, "How do you feel about this?"

The secretary walking beside her startled slightly but quickly replied, "Ethan assaulted someone, that much is clear."

Alice furrowed her brows slightly; she could deduce that much.

Nevertheless, she remained skeptical, certain that her mother had embellished her words.

As for her brother, he truly was a scoundrel.

The secretary glanced at Alice's expression, seemingly understanding her thoughts.

She hurriedly said, "Regardless, assaulting someone like that is unequivocally wrong."

She didn't care about the reason; she despised Ethan, so everything he did in her eyes became despicable.

Alice furrowed her brows slightly but didn't find fault in the secretary's words.

Her brother had indeed been severely beaten by Ethan.

Perhaps she was right to divorce Ethan; perhaps he had never been as decent a man as she thought.

The secretary watched Alice's face from the side and continued, "Ethan should take responsibility for this."

Alice said solemnly, "I want to call him."

With that, she pressed a button on her phone, evidently calling Ethan.

At this moment, in Aboli's car, an unusually quiet atmosphere prevailed.

Aboli was a woman of icy demeanor, a trait Ethan didn't particularly enjoy conversing with in situations like this.

Suddenly, the phone rang, shattering the silence.

Without hesitation, Ethan picked up, and Alice's voice immediately transmitted through the phone, "Don't you want to explain anything? What did you do to my brother?"

Ethan, not caring much, replied, "I did hit him, that's true."

Pausing for a moment, he opened his mouth, intending to explain everything, "But..."

"Did you really hit my brother? Just because I divorced you? Ethan, I never expected you to be like this!"

Ethan frowned, his eyes filled with suspicion, almost disbelieving that Alice would say such things after everything.

He tightened his grip on the phone, speaking solemnly, "Perhaps you should ask your brother what he did to deserve being hit like that."

Ethan's words seemed to further infuriate Alice.

She didn't care about anything else and said, "Regardless, hitting someone is wrong. Don't you feel the need to apologize to my brother?"

Ethan held the phone away from his ear, his gaze gradually becoming dull.

It seemed like their failed marriage was never his fault; from the beginning, the only one changing was Alice.

"Hey, I'm talking to you," Alice's voice continued to ring out.

But at this point, Ethan simply hung up, not letting her say another word.

"It's surprising how long you listened to her nonsense," Aboli's cold voice suddenly sounded.

Ethan looked back, only to see Aboli staring at him, her expression still as desolate, "Fools aren't worth your time."

Ethan said nothing, and Aboli didn't care.

Meanwhile, on the road, Alice fumed as she stared at the dark phone screen.

However, she had no intention of calling back.

The secretary, seeing Alice so angry, hastily said, "Should I teach Ethan a lesson?"

As she spoke, she took out her phone, as if intending to hire a gang immediately.

Alice spoke calmly, "Don't do anything meaningless at this time, focus on the main task."

The Campbell family was about to host a business dinner, where they invited all the major forces in Gloria to choose their partners.

These days, Alice remained focused on her project with hopes of being chosen by the Campbell family.

Meanwhile, Ethan and Aboli had arrived at the VIP room of Gloria's top hospital.

Ethan entered the room, his gaze immediately falling on the old man wheezing on the hospital bed.

His breath was weak to the point it seemed about to vanish, yet the surrounding doctors could only sigh helplessly.

Just then, a somewhat discontent and rushed voice exclaimed, "Sis, these people are truly incompetent! They can't even do anything when our granfather is dying!"

The doctors frowned at the remark, one of them grumbling irritably, "What expertise does she have to say such things?!"

The one who had irked the doctors then brushed past Ethan and went to Aboli's side, angrily expressing her sentiments.

If Ethan guessed correctly, this was Aboli's younger sister, Melly Campbell.

Her words were impolite, but Aboli seemed patient with her, simply saying, "Calm down."

With that, she stepped forward, addressing the doctors in a low voice, "Leave, everyone. As for treatment, I have found a suitable person."

The doctors couldn't help but collectively glance at Ethan, the only unfamiliar face here.

A young man in simple attire, not even wearing a white lab coat, it was hard to believe he had any medical expertise.

Their expressions were blatantly skeptical, but Aboli calmly reiterated, "Leave."

The doctors grumbled slightly but could only reluctantly leave.

At this moment, Melly spoke up from the side, "Sis, can he really cure our granfather?"

Aboli looked at her, saying, "He was recommended by Mr. John Cartie; you shouldn't doubt Mr. John's judgment."

Melly pursed her lips at that, though she still didn't entirely trust Ethan.

She looked at Ethan, raising her voice, "Do you really know how to heal? Will you be able to cure my grandfather?"

Facing Melly's gaze, Ethan spoke slowly, "Just a bit of skill. As for Mr. Campbell, if he wants to recover, it also depends on his will."

Melly almost immediately furrowed her brows, "What do you mean by that? Clearly, you lack talent. You're saying that to justify yourself even if you can't cure my grandfather, right?"

Aboli frowned slightly, her voice low, "Melly!"

Melly recoiled slightly but didn't give up.

She looked at Ethan and quickly said, "I'll believe you if you can diagnose my current condition, but if not, you better leave!"

Aboli frowned, but rather than stopping Melly, she looked somewhat reluctantly at Ethan.

Ethan knew that Aboli also wanted to test him, and Melly was just the tool.

He didn't care much about this suspicion and just nodded, "Extend your hand here."

Melly raised an eyebrow, extending her hand before Ethan.

Ethan placed his index and middle fingers on Melly's pulse.

Not long after, he withdrew his hand and said in a low voice, "You don't have any severe illness, but there are some minor ailments at the moment, endocrine disorders, headaches, and diarrhea. Perhaps you should adjust some of your eating habits and lifestyle."
