When was the last time Jim said no to her?

Lola didn’t remember it. He probably never said no to her before, so she wasn’t just angry but was also shocked.

“I’ll order some food for her and everyone,” she said, “so give it to me.”

“I told you already,” Jim retorted. “I didn’t make much because there were only six carrots. I ate half and kept the other half for Rena. If I give it to you, then what about Rena?”

“She will eat it some other time, so give that to me.”

Jim shook his head. “No, I can’t. I already called Rena and told her that I’m cooking carrot pudding for her, and so she will be expecting to eat it after coming home. If I give it to you now, she’ll be upset.”

“My daughter will not get upset if I eat her share because I was hungry,” Lola blurted.

“But I will get upset if my wife doesn’t eat what I cooked for her,” Jim replied calmly.

Lola gritted her teeth. Lola’s favorite sweet was carrot pudding, and Jim made that on purpose to pick on her nerves. Luckily, she didn’t eat a
