I'm Not Joking

"Jordan, what do you think you're saying?" Mark was the first to recover, and immediately, he burst out into a fist of laughter.

The others also burst out laughing looking at Jordan, disdain written all over their faces.

"If it were not for your dishonest acts, do you think we would all be here?" Mark sneered as he stopped laughing.

"Besides, if it was you in the past who said this, then I would have believed it without a doubt."

"Who the hell do you think you are right now?" He continued with a sneer.

"You're just a criminal, so you'd better shut the heck up and not interfere in what you're not supposed to."

"I...." Jordan wanted to say something, but he felt a soft tug from Zoey and thus didn't say anything again.

"Fine, I'll get the contract in three days." Zoey agreed.

"I have your divorce papers ready, get ready to sign them in three days." Mark sneered.

He firmly believed that there was no way Zoey was going to be able to get the contract, so he was not even thinking about it.

"Fine." Zoey gritted her teeth and pulled Jordan out of the banquet hall.

------

"What do you think you were doing back at the banquet?" Zoey glared at Jordan immediately after they stepped into the house.

After leaving the banquet, she brought Jordan straight to the house where she lived. After the incident, the Clarkson family considered her a shame and took everything from her.

The only thing they didn't take was her job and this was because they felt that she was useful and would help them secure more contracts.

Her pay had been cut and she was barely given enough to sustain her.

"What do you mean by that?" Jordan asked as he looked around the house in confusion.

He had a lot of questions he wanted to ask, but he felt there was no need to ask. He was going to know after he did some investigation.

"What you said at the banquet. Do you think I have a chance at getting the contract?" Zoey sighed, rolling her eyes at Jordan as she managed to fight back her tears.

Jordan was someone who was just a victim of injustice and she knew about it. Besides, he was an excellent man, and she believed that if he was given the time, he was going to rise once again.

Also, he was the first man she loved and most probably the last, so she was unwilling to get divorced.

"Don't you believe that you could get the contract?" Jordan's voice softened as he looked at Zoey.

He could read the emotions in her eyes and thus knew how she felt, so he felt rather sad.

"You're intelligent, and I believe that if you put in more work, you'll be able to get the contract." He continued, his voice growing softer with each second.

"Stop trying to praise me and tell me why you were so confident?" Zoey sneered, trying to hide the smile on her face.

Back at the banquet, she could feel that Jordan was extremely confident and she had felt that aura from him five years ago, so she felt that he had a means.

"Alright, to tell you the truth, I've not been in prison all this while." Jordan sighed.

Zoey's eyes opened wide in shock hearing what Jordan said and she didn't know what to say.

"After a month of getting to prison, we were taken away by the army to serve as soldiers depending on the number of years we had to spend on the battlefield." Jordan continued.

"So while on the battlefield when we went on a rescue mission, I was able to rescue the son of the owner of Skyline Technologies, whose father then came to see me and promised to help me anytime I needed help." Jordan continued..

Though his words were a lie, it was not entirely that. The first half was the truth. And the last half was the truth.

He had indeed saved the son of the owner of Skyline Technologies, and the other party was willing to offer up the company, but Jordan was not willing and just turned it down.

After all, he too was not a poor man and, over the years, had amassed quite a number of wealth which he couldn't count.

Also, he felt that the company was too small, and the owner had a whole lot of other companies, so he was not interested in taking over just a minor company.

Zoey's eyes widened in shock as she looked at Jordan. She couldn't believe her ears.

"After five years, we were allowed to return back and now I'm retired. I'll just have to look for a job." Jordan didn't allow Zoey's thoughts to wander and continued.

"So I'll give him a call, and I'm sure that as long as your proposal is good, they would be willing to give you a contract; after all, what they need is talent."

"But aren't you supposed to use that favor to get yourself back and bounce back to what you were before.." Stuttered Zoey not knowing what to say.

"You think too much wifey. I'm giving up this favor for you cause I know you can do it. Also, you don't want to divorce me, right?" Jordan continued, a smirk curled up on his face.

"Yes...." Zoey nodded, her heart beating heavily as she couldn't believe that Jordan was going to do so much for her.

"Then you should just trust your instincts and prepare for the contract. Take it tomorrow, and I'm sure they'll be willing to review it." Jordan continued.

"Yes..." Zoey nodded.

"Then you should waste no time and go and prepare for the contract so you can take it tomorrow; after all, we don't know how long it would take them to review it." Jordan smiled.

Zoey nodded and immediately turned around walking into the room to do as Jordan had said.

Jordan had a smile on his face as he watched Zoey walk away. He had already come back and he was not going to allow anyone to bully his wife or take her away from him.
