Chapter 2

It was Jameson Roy, the head of the cardiology department. “They owed the hospital a huge amount of money. If you help them, I'll deduct all of your salary to 20%!”

The Doctors were threatened by Jameson's words. It seems as if they forgot their Hippocratic Oath and step back from the dying patient in front of them.

Isidore shook his head out of disbelief.

Soon, crowds doubled and started gossiping and pointing.

His sister's eyes weakly opened and tried to smile at him.

“J-just l-let me go. Y-you must e-enjoy your l-life my d-dear b-b-brother...”

“No. Don't say that please...”

Isidore remembered how he and Iris had escaped with their mum from their country 15 years ago when Algoria was at war with Bergium.

His grandparents and father died in the bomb attack. All of their family were badly injured.

His mother was also awfully injured, but luckily, they escaped and came to Carreon and got settled as refugees at Clandver City. However, his mother didn’t make it due to severe injury and passed away soon after.

Ever since then, he had been living with his sister Iris. They had gone through many ups and downs together. He tried hard to fight destiny, and luckily, he made it to university and got good grades.

However, just when he believed things were finally taking a good turn for him and Iris. Iris fell ill and was diagnosed with Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy.

An enlargement in the walls of the heart’s pumping chamber that causes insufficient pumping of blood, which overtime can lead to symptoms of heart failure that needs a heart transplant.

That was when he married into the White Family as a live-in son-in-law and worked for them tirelessly, just so he could have money to get his sister into a hospital.

According to their contract, the White Family would also cover the medical bills for Iris when a matched donor was found.

And just last Monday, the hospital informed him that once he paid the bill of fifty thousand dollars, Iris would get her final treatment.

That was why he had called his wife so desperately to plead for the money needed.

How could he watch his sister die such a painful death after surviving through all of that?

Why was life so cruel to them?!

His tears fell indignantly. His bleeding arm ached and mixed with his sister's own blood.

Soon two different blood, from the same bloodline caused reactants. Unknowingly absorbed through the old and cheap ring Isidore was wearing since fifteen years old.

The ring was, in fact, the family heirloom, and was given to him by his late father.

While grasping his weakened sister, his heart skipped a beat and a sudden pitch was heard in his own head.

'Ding!'

His eyes squinted when a blinded light suddenly appeared. He cried and moaned when pain crashed through his head.

What the fuck is happening?!

The crowd moved away, concerned that he may be excessively stimulated by his sister’s condition, go insane and become violent.

Before Isidore could react, a strong flow of unbelievable knowledge was stuffed into his head.

When he opened his eyes again. He was nearly out of breath. A blue screen appeared in front of him with words written in black. He was completely agape when an unfamiliar metallic voice of a woman read the words.

[Successor of Medici found.]

[Information received by the successor.]

[Ancient Heirloom of the successor successfully activated.]

He was almost breathless as he was in disbelief from what he heard. He thought he was having delusions.  But another screen appeared in front of him. This time, in red, with a flickering warning sign.

[Urgent Mission!]

[Urgent Mission!]

[Treat Younger Sister: Make healing potion in 20 minutes. Failure will resort to death.]

[Accept] [Decline]

He blinked and was totally in disbelief for the second time. He doubted his own consciousness as he gazed at the ridiculous screen.

With shaking hands, he tapped the 'Accept' button that only his eyes could see. There's nothing wrong in believing, right?

[Mission Accepted. Host has 20 minutes to complete the mission.]

[19:59...]

[19:56...]

His mouth agape. 'I-Is this really real?' Isidore couldn't help but question his sanity.

He looked around him and it seemed like no one could see the screen but him.

[18:39...]

'Oh no!'

He started panicking as the time was running down. What if he will really die?! Who would take care of his sister then?!

If everything in his head was true, then this mission could be the only way to save his sister. But the question is, 'How would I even make the potion?' he asked out of nowhere.

[System Assistance Activated.]

He flickers from the metallic voice. 'What?'

[Answer: Host needs to find the specific herbs to make the potion. ]

Various herbs were shown on the screen. He was amazed and a flash of hope ignited within him as he read through the list.

Because not only did he now have the reason to trust their destiny, but he also knew where to find every one of those herbs!

And in the next moment between life and death, he rises while carrying his sister and the hope to cure her.

He walked out from the hospital without looking back. He swore to get back to those who shunned and betrayed him, when all of this is over!

But now, he needed to gather the herbs first and treat his younger sister.
