Cage looked at Chloe, waiting for her to speak.
"I… I'd get them right away." Chloe couldn't believe Cage's request, but she trusted him.
"This will blow up in your face." The doctor glared at Cage, but the man turned his face away.
Cage wouldn't be doing this, but he couldn't bear to see Chloe suffer.
In two minutes, Chloe appeared with all the ingredients and handed them over to Cage, along with a bowl.
Cage mixed the hot charcoal and honey. He dipped the garlic into the mixture and allowed it to cool down for a few seconds.
"This is just trash." The doctor said in morbid disgust.
"Shut up, Doctor Matthias. I don't need your voice ruining the preparation." Chloe snarled in annoyance.
Cage ignored the banters and applied the mix to the grandfather's body.
"I'll be back, Chloe. I want to get something. Please watch your grandpa after the fifth minute when he wakes up. The first thing you must do is feed him with this mixture."
Cage uttered and stood up to go.
"Wait, Cage. Would he wake up?" Chloe didn't believe this ordinary mix was enough to heal her father.
"If he doesn't wake up, kill doctor Matthias." Cage said with a stern face and moved out of the room.
"Eh? Why should I be the one to die?" The doctor ordered.
" Shut up. Don't you see you pissed him off with all your talks? What if he refused to heal my grandfather?" Chloe glared at the doctor.
"Humph. Using a food ingredients mixture would do nothing to help your grandpa. Miss, let's take this off and apply the normal medicines." Matthias suggested.
"I'll chop off your fingers if I find them on my grandfather." Chloe snarled.
A phone ring caught their attention.
"Excuse me, I have to take this. Watch my father and remember what Doctor Cage said. We wouldn't want to have your license revoked."
Doctor Matthias snorted in annoyance. "That man isn't worthy to be called a doctor. He's a huge scam, and I can't wait for this all to blow up in their faces."
At precisely the fifth minute, the older adult in the bed let out a loud cough, alerting the doctor.
"Grampa Richland. You are finally awake. Did that man's medicine work, or was it just a coincidence?” Matthias thought out loud.
"Water." The old man on the bed muttered slowly.
"You want water? Hold on."
Matthias quickly rushed to get the man a glass of water.
"Oh. Before you take this water, Grandpa, you must take this medicine. It's called an opioid painkiller. It'd help reduce your pain. I can't bear to give you that deadly concoction. A true doctor doesn't use such methods." Matthias said in a rush.
He quickly fed the grandfather the medicine and gave him some water.
A few seconds later, the old man convulsed on the bed.
" What did you do? " Chloe had just finished taking the call.
Her grandfather, vibrating strangely, shocked her.
"It's the man's drug. I fed your grandfather, just like. You told me to." Mathew frowned.
He pretended to be worried.
Meanwhile, Cage stood outside the hotel room with his phone in his ear.
"Hello, Lily. Have you found a good car company?" Cage spoke into the phone.
"Okay then, buy up eighty percent of the company, and I'll be back in the office to relay my plans. Give me twenty minutes." Cage had a slight smile on his face.
It was time to bring Daryl Gray to his knees.
Cage had refused to make known his identity because of people who were after his life. They had killed his parents. Zo could hide his sisters and take him to an orphanage.
Now, he missed them.
"I'll be seeing them soon." Cage murmured with a sigh.
He made his way back into the hotel room.
"Cage. Something went wrong." Chloe cried when she saw Cage stepping into the room.
"Nothing would go wrong if only you did what I told you." Cage frowned.
Chloe felt a cold air around her.
"It has already happened. Please, can you do something?" Chloe pleaded with him.
Cage sighed, taking the leftover garlic and crunched it into the grandfather's mouth.
"It was that mixture he mixed that caused all this. I did as you told me," Matthias lied through his teeth.
Cage cast a side glance at him but kept quiet.
After a few seconds, the grandfather on the bed threw up.
He coughed out a white pill.
Cage picked up the pill from the ground. It was dry.
"You gave him this?" Cage didn't look up from the pill.
" I didn't. I thought…” Matthias tried to speak.
Chloe interrupted him with a slap. The slap tore his lips as he fell to the ground, bleeding.
"You insolent fool. You could have killed my grandfather."
Chloe's face was red in her fury.
Cage ignored the drama and fed the remaining mixture to her grandfather.
A few minutes later, black liquid flowed from the old man's skin.
His skin was changing from its ghostly pale color to a bright one.
"When he wakes up, just give him his favorite food, snacks, and drink. He will be back to his usual self." Cage said and looked at Chloe.
He thought her skin was the glassiest he had seen. She was gorgeous.
"Thank you so much, Cage. I don't know what to say. I'm so sorry for taking your time," Chloe said with bunny eyes.
"It wasn't a problem." Cage smiled.
"How? How can this be possible? After all my years of studying medicine, I never heard of this," Matthias exclaimed in surprise.
"You! I'm suing you. You almost killed my father." Chloe poked at her finger in the doctor's chest and growled.
Cage stepped aside. He had a lot of work to do.
He had to make Carmen and Daryl pay.
Just as Cage was about to leave the hotel, he received a call.
"Young Master. The Williams party will be held in a different venue from their home." Zo's voice sounded from the other side of the phone.
"Okay, there's no problem ready. Please, get my dress and mask ready, Zo." Cage spoke.
"Young Master, why do you need a mask?" Zo asked.
"I don't plan to reveal myself immediately. Carmen sent me an email to attend her party. I can't go as the Cage she knows and as the CEO of Marines and Shares. However, I have a plan." Cage had a slight grin on his face as he spoke.
Cage knew Grace coerced Carmen to invite him so she could embarrass him.
Carmen wouldn't have the mind to face him after what she did.
"Okay, Young Master." Zo agreed, and the line went off.
"I don't have a ride, Zo." Cage spoke into the phone, but he realized that the call wasn't ongoing any longer.
He would have to take a taxi.
Just as he was about to step forward, he heard someone scream his name.
"Cage, please wait." Chloe raised her voice.
She could not stop the momentum of her running in time.
Cage caught her as she crashed into his chest.
"So sturdy," Chloe whispered to herself.
"What was that?" Cage asked with a raised brow.
"Nothing. I thank you for helping my grandfather. I wanted to ask you for a request." Chloe bowed her head as she spoke in a low tone.
"I'm listening, Chloe," Cage uttered with a smile.
"I want you to marry me." Chloe declared the bomb.
"What! No!" Cage was stunned. He couldn't stop the blush that appeared on his face.
"Listen to me. I need it. Someone poisoned my father because of his properties, and the family is after me too because Grandpa willed all his properties to me," Chloe said sternly.
"So, why do you need me to marry you?" Cage was confused.
"I can't accept the properties without getting married. If they kill Grandpa, they will kick me out and share the properties among themselves." Chloe explained.
Her hands moved frantically as she spoke.
"I can't just marry you, Chloe. It's too sudden." Cage tried to knock some sense into his best friend.
"It's not forever. You'd sign a contract. I'd divorce you after some time." Chloe looked desperate.
"Why me?" Cage asked.
"You are my best friend." Chloe had a straight look on her face.
Cage rubbed the bridge between his nose.
"Ok, I'll marry you, but you'll give me some time."
Cage's lip drew into a thin line. This was going to mess up his plans.
"I already told the family that I'd introduce you next tomorrow." Chloe had a broad smile on her face.
Cage sighed. "I'll get back to you."
Chloe bowed in appreciation and went back to the hotel.
Cage picked up his phone.
"Change of plans, Zo. I wouldn't introduce myself as the CEO now. I'm getting married." Cage clenched his fist as he spoke.
"That's good news, Young Master." Zo's voice had a tinge of excitement."No, Zo. I'm not ready for marriage again. Isn't it weird? I just left one." Cage sighed."It's not weird. Chloe is your best friend. It's expected that you should marry her." Zo blurted out."Wait. I never said I was marrying Chloe. How did you…" Before Cage could finish his sentence, the line went off."That annoying little man." Cage glared at the phone screen. He forgot to tell him to bring a car again.Cage looked at his left side, and he saw a garage full of new cars."That looks like a car shop. I don't particularly like using taxis." He muttered to himself. It definitely wouldn't be wrong if he bought himself a brand-new car."I'd buy the shop instead." Cage chuckled. He walked into the shop."Anyone here?" Cage called. A fat man suddenly appeared."Yes, what do you want? We don't hand out alms today. Come tomorrow." The fat man rudely said."No. I don't… " Cage spoke, but he was stopped."What? You aren'
Cage slept well that afternoon and in his own house. He woke up, made coffee, and got ready for the party at the Williams."Good day, Sir. I have completed your request." Lily said from the other side of the phone."Good, prepare a contract for the company. They would assist us in creating a device." Cage started."What device, Sir?" Lily asked him."Good question, Lily. Remind me to increase your salary. I have purchased a car shop filled with cars," Cage ordered. After listening to his idea, Lily was shocked. It was a brilliant idea.Turning cars into taxis? She would never think of such things."You would monitor the earnings of the drivers with the device. A splendid idea, Sir." Lily said. She was filled with praise. "Yes, so get the documents ready. I'll be seeing you soon." Cage said."Please don't forget about my salary increments." Lily reminded him."That reminds me, Lily. You remember the invitation to the Williams house to see their graduating daughter?" Cage asked, tak
"Don't you think you took it far?" Cage spoke to Chloe in the car."You can't do it? I have known you since we were kids. I know what you are capable of, Cage." Chloe smiled at him.Cage hummed in positive. He knew she was right."Where is your house?" Chloe asked. "Just stop here." Cage replied. He didn't want Chloe to know much about him. "Thank you for the ride." Cage said when he stepped out of the car."You wouldn't show me your home?" Chloe quirked a brow."Not now, Chloe. I have to prepare to see your family tomorrow." Cage reminded her.Chloe's face dropped, but she understood.Cage walked to the estate. His car had been appropriately parked in his garage. His phone rang the moment he stepped into his house."Hello, Lily. I'm listening." Cage spoke into the phone."I did what you asked me to do. I have also prepared the contract." Lily reported.Lily hoped she could still help him out."Thank you, Lily." Cage uttered."Excuse me, Sir. Are you alone?" Lily spoke with a flirty
Cage walked over to Chloe. He pulled her close by the waist and kissed her on the lips."I'm sorry I'm late." He smiled at her.The crowd wooed them. They couldn't believe their famous bachelorette got herself a hopeless romantic.Chloe was stunned when she felt Cage's lips on hers. He felt like a completely different person.Did he do this to convince her family?Chloe didn't know why she suddenly felt sad about it.He did what she expected him to do. They needed to convince the world that they were in love."Thank you for waiting for me." Cage muttered against her lips.Chloe forced herself to smile. She was meant to be happy, yet she felt empty. "Oh, my goodness. Did you see that?" Someone in the crowd said. The media took pictures of the kiss, and they knew what their headlines would be the next day."He is so handsome. Look at the way he smiled at her.""Dear future husband, please be like Miss Chloe's fiancé."Almost every lady present couldn't take their eyes off Cage, and so
Emotions were very high after her grandfather had declared his intentions. Mason, who was still pale, could feel the blood beat in his brain as the humiliation settled. He couldn't believe it, it all felt so f*cking strange because he didn't expect anything of that sort was ever going to happen. Rochelle wasn't having it either. "You conniving snake!" She spat, glaring at Chloe venomously before her eyes quickly went to Cage. "How dare you deceive us all with your stupid lies and trickery?" Her loud voice had silenced the whole crowd. All they could do was watch as she ranted. "Don't listen to this man!! He's a liar!! And that bitch over there is just using him to garner some stupid sympathy and take everything away from me!" Despite her rantings and curses, Cage didn't move an inch. He felt they were all going to get what they deserved, and there was no turning back until he had achieved the satisfaction that he desperately craved from seeing these humans crawl and beg and cry. H
From the corner of his eyes, he saw the couple storm out of the hall in anger, but he couldn't have cared less. It was oddly satisfying, to say the least.Their passionate kiss was interrupted when Mr. Richland stepped forward. His eyes shone with pride and affection, despite the onslaught that had gone on earlier. He was the only one who differentiated the wolves from the sheep, despite his age. "My dear daughter," he began, sounding so emotional. "I have an announcement to make." The room immediately fell silent as one of the maids held out the microphone to speak. He briefly apologised for what had happened earlier and went on. "I have decided to announce Chloe as my successor because she has proven herself to be worthy of the title. She was the only one who stood by my side and helped me recover when others wished for my death." A collective gasp went through the room. It took a little while before the room finally went silent again. He went on again, thanking Chloe and Cage
He stopped the car once they were a safe distance away from the party. The light from his car died, and the darkness returned. Then he vented his spleen."Fuck! Fuck!!" A scream left his throat as he pummelled the steering wheel in pure rage before bowing and covering his face. He had been scalded."I'm going to kill that bastard! He has no idea who he's messed with. I will not rest until I've taught him a very big lesson, one he won't be alive to correct!" Rochelle was equally white with rage but she had not yet found the mouth with which to voice the way she felt at the moment. She had been thrown out of the party she helped organise, and to add salt to the injury, Chloe and her fiancé had somehow turned into their engagement party. Her knuckles were turning white with anger as the events of the evening replayed in her mind like a kind of broken record. Each time she remembered how her sister and her fake fiancé had treated them, her rage and resentment skyrocketed. It hurt her so
It was very difficult to discern the secret of Cage's success for most people, considering how fast and how insanely famous it had become in such a short time. Word-of-mouth spread like wildfire across the country, drawing crowds who were eager to experience the culinary delights his restaurants provided. Within weeks, it had become the talk of the town. But it wasn't to come without a price. He had put himself to work like one possessed, since he wanted to make sure that he made the most out of it. And from the look of things, his company was destined for even greater success. He had established many restaurants across the country to meet up with the demand. He spearheaded the whole thing with the help of his team- a handpicked group of brains who gave him strategic advice on how to run his business and so far they had not failed him. On this particular night, he had just arrived home from his first restaurant which was opened in the city. He had gone himself to make sure that eve
Trevor couldn't believe that this was happening. He'd gotten off the call with hopes that Cage wouldn't do anything, but when he had gotten off the phone with Cage, he couldn't believe it. It was still very hard to assimilate the words he had heard. They were devastating, utterly devastating. The threat and the calmness in his voice, he was still finding it very hard to believe a single word of it. "It's a fucking bluff," he said under his breath as he kept pacing the entire room. There was a lot more to this. "There is no way he's going to be able to freeze my accounts. That's not going to happen without a court order." So far he had been able to stay under the radar because of the palms he had to grease. It had saved him a lot and hearing what was about to happen meant a lot of things. It meant there was no way he could report to the authorities because they would find out what he had been doing and there wouldn't be a way to cover up the skeleton he'd been hiding in his cupboard
Cage stood outside his house, pacing back and forth like a caged beast. He had been very worried, ever since he got the call from the agents some minutes before now. He trusted their abilities, but hearing that Chloe had been rescued was everything he could ask for. He couldn't wait to see her come back to him again. As soon as this was done, the Gedan Family would be shooting themselves in the foot. They had made a very big mistake the moment they decided to take her away from him so they could manipulate him into giving her up. He was going to make sure they suffered and got what they deserved. There was no mercy here. The silence was heavy where he stood and it was only broken by the occasional rustle of leaves in the breeze. He couldn't shake the images of Chloe's terrified face haunting his mind. He continued to stand there, patiently waiting. It wasn't long before he heard the sound of an approaching car. It pulled him from his thoughts as he walked to the direction. A black S
The night was dark and silent and the moon cast an eerie glow over the old warehouse. It was the perfect time to attack and that was why they had chosen this time to do it. The two couldn't wait to finish what was started not long before now. Chloe sat on a cold, hard chair. Her hands were tied and her heart was pounding furiously in her chest. She hadn't hadn't gotten a blink of sleep since she was apprehended because of how scared she was. She had never been more scared than she was at the moment. Be thoughts were filled with worry for her un or child and for Cage. She knew he would come for her, but she had no idea how or when. She only wanted to hope and kept looking out that he would come for her one day. She knew he would but normally he should have already come for her, but he hadn't yet. And that worried her so much. That was the moment the sound of gunfire suddenly erupted outside the warehouse. Her heart skipped a beat as her fear intensified immediately. She didn't know w
That night was the longest night in his life. While the rest had gone to sleep, he stayed awake, restless and shaken. Even with the thought that she was not hurt at the moment, he couldn't risk the dread that had already engulfed him. Nothing made sense to him him anymore. He just wanted to see her safe and he knew he was going to pull off something extra to get this done. He was back home and no longer at his office now, but the Gedan family was still out here, and they had to be stopped. That was if the abductors weren't just trying to implicate them as the real suspects when they weren't. Cage was so angry and wondered how they had been unable to see that something like this could happen. Well, he didn't blame himself. There were no leads, no suspicious events that had led up to the kidnapping. It just happened out of nowhere, sending him crashing back into the world of hurt and pain and worries that he thought he would gone past now. He had to stop them and that was what he was a
"What happened?" He asked, the concern in his voice was as silent as a summer afternoon. Cage took a deep breath and answered. "Chloe has been kidnapped. And they want me to sign all my properties over to the Gedans Family in exchange for her release. I never saw anything of this sort coming but it looks like they have been planning it all along for a long time. I won't be surprised if I find out that they are connected to the problems we have been facing lately, especially with Marcia. They could be the ones who told her to do what she did and now that their plans won't work, they opted immediately to abduct my wife. Those bastards, once I have my hands on them I'm going to make sure they regret whatever they are doing right now." Cage said, growling and punching the table with his clenched fist. A day ago he was happy that he had been able to curtail the situation but right now, everything had just gotten worse and probably gone back to square one. There was a big silence, after
Cage sprinted back to his car as soon as he began to understand what was going on. He drove back home as fast as he could with his thoughts racing madly. He didn't know what to believe or think about. The fact that she had left an hour ago made him so worried and no matter how he tried to push the dangerous possibilities off and tell himself that she was OK, he couldn't. He knew that something was very wrong when he arrived home and rushed inside, calling out her name with a very panic-filled voice. "Chloe! Chloe!, are you here?" The house was eerily silent and he went to check the cameras after that. He found out that nobody had been there the whole time he was away. He had a very bad feeling in his gut at this point as he wondered what could have happened to her and where she might be at this point. Just for good measure, he checked every room, every corner, but there was no sign of her. The panic set in as he realised she was truly missing. He decided to wait, hoping she would wa
Cage felt so relieved and carefree as he drove down the familiar route to Chloe's family home. He was very happy because the problem had been solved at least and he just had to find out the main person behind the fake rumours. That wasn't a pain in the ass since whoever it was would be kept at bay as soon as he knew that he was wanted and a lot of people were looking for him. He had made a mental note earlier to call Dave to know if he'd found anything about the voice of the man who had spoken with Marcia over the phone. He was snapped out of his thoughts when someone honked at me from behind. He matched the accelerator and the car began to race down the tarmac. The later afternoon sun had already cast shadows on the earth but he barely noticed. He couldn't wait to get to the house and finally meet her. He was worried about what their conversation was going to sound like. He wondered if it would be awkward or emotional, considering what had happened between them before now. He remin
Cage didn't still safe despite the measures that had already been taken to bring down the allegations. He knew that something was still out there, searching and waiting for him to slip so they could strike. And he knew that he had to make sure that he didn't. The next day, he decided to call his lawyer again. He had decided that there was no need to rest anymore until he had gotten the whole problem sorted out. He felt uneasy when he picked up the phone and called his lawyer, Mark. The feeling was there with him, and it refused to leave him no matter how much he tried to. "Mark, I need to talk to you." He said, sounding tense even though he was trying everything possible not to sound that way. Yes, they had taken care of Marcia and her lies but that wasn't just working for him. It wasn't enough motivation because what faced them was bigger than Marcia, and even more deadly. He still remembered the attack of the assassins who had been sent to end his life. The thought made his gut
Two days later, Cage was in his house, particularly sitting at his desk in his study. The last few days had been a whirlwind of confusion and anxiety. The cops were still outside the estate where he was leaving, so he hadn't been able to leave the house since then, until he had been proven to be innocent. It was a very tiresome time for him and he couldn't wait to be done with it. That was the moment that his phone suddenly rang. He thought it was from his assistant or Mark but when he peered into the phone it was a strange number. It was strange because he didn't know who it was and because the caller ID was only composed of very short numbers that nobody in the state used. It almost looked foreign, and he prayed that it was the government house so he could be done with this. But on a second thought, he wondered what it would be if it wasn't really the government house but instead the perpetrator. His heart pounded as he picked up the phone. "Hello, this is Cage. " He said, doing e
