Gerald The Hero

The gate that appeared on earth brought humans to Greyos, the place where I was reincarnated. I don't know what expression to show even though no one can see me. I still don't know if this is a good or bad sign.

"Do these humans want to take over Greyos?"

"Yup! They are here to take Greyos before people from this world take over the earth."

Then I can't blame humans, though. If they don't attack first, the monsters from this world will attack them through the same gate.

The sound of hoof ringing closer. From a distance, an army of elves with phoenix crests on their armor approaches. They hold arrows, while the commander carries a sword.

Amenus lowers his sword, and so does Gerald. This situation is beyond their control. But I'm sure if the elves throw arrows right away, Amenus wouldn't hesitate to finish them off right away.

"Who are you?" The elf commander asks.

Gerald bows his body like a noble. "Sorry for the commotion. We only came to defeat the boss of this dungeon. We promised not to hurt the residents—"

Slaaphh!

Amenus' men's spears pierce the chest of an elven soldier before Gerald can finish speaking. The commander immediately orders to attack. The bunnies hide and run into the forest. Hundreds of arrows fly above them, like New Year's Eve fireworks. As if they have an intelligence of their own, the arrows chased after Amenus' men. Gerald parries the arrows with his sword, while Amenus uses magic to create a barrier.

A battle ensues and Amenus counterattacks them with a strange power that emerges from his hands. Sometimes it's like a fireball, but then he casts wind magic. On the other hand, Gerald tries to talk even though he still fends off the arrows. Amenus' men end up lying in a pool of blood.

"Wait a moment!" Gerald shouts loudly. The rain of arrows stops and attention is focused on him.

"I'm not here to fight with you. I came to defeat the dungeon boss!"

The elf commander gets off his horse, and the other troops follow him. He doesn't look friendly, but he doesn't seem like a threat, either.

"What do you mean dungeons?" He asks with a stern face.

"The one who rules this world in darkness, the evil of the evil!"

The elves frown, and so do I. So the dungeon boss is evil.

'The boss is the cruelest and most powerful creature in every world.' The voice of the oracle sounds again in my head.

The commander doesn't seem to listen to Gerald. He raises his hand, and his subordinates quickly surround Gerald and Amenus.

"Wherever you come from, we don't care. Get out of here quickly the same way you came!"

"Wait! Is this the first gate that appeared here?"

The elves don't answer. They point arrowheads at Amenus and Gerald, making them walk toward the gate again. It feels a bit strange to see Amenus act like that. I'm sure he can easily defeat all those armies with his strength.

When Amenus and Gerald are only a few steps away from the gate, an even more enormous surge of electricity appears. The elves automatically retreat, making their guard even weaker.

The gate glows and gives off dense white smoke. It smells like sulfur and makes my chest tight. Gradually, the light dims until it finally disappears. And the gate vanishes with it.

"The gate ..." Gerald's eyes widen. The gate that supposes to be their exit suddenly disappears.

"Tsk! I don't care anymore!" Amenus growls.

He suddenly takes out a fireball from his hand and attacks the elf army. Kiran's soldiers, who are not ready, burn instantly. He starts doing it to other soldiers. The rain of arrows returns, but as I predicted, it won't be a problem for Amenus. I remember how he could beat someone up without touching them.

Amenus attacks them indiscriminately. The elves' troops dwindle, and many die miserably. Even the commander can't touch Amenus.

After the fireball, Amenus spits out a ball of water that seems to be poisoned. The water is red and smoky.

When the commander sees it, he immediately shouts, "Retreat!"

But it's too late. Amenus has already thrown the poisoned water at them.

"Purification!" Gerald shouts.

Splaasshh!

The water hit all the remaining elf troops. Nothing happens. The poisoned water has already become clean water because Gerald is purifying it.

All eyes are on him. Those elves are confused because Gerald helps them.

"That's enough, Hans! I'm here to kill you!" Gerald draws his sword and points it at Amenus.

Amenus dodges. He lets out his mainstay fireball and water ball, but it all disappears before it touches Gerald. I stand with the elves, watching Gerald and Amenus' fierce fight. What actually makes Gerald hate Amenus so much?

Gerald has a friendly look in his eyes when he is dealing with the elves, like a wise man who cannot hurt others. But those eyes changed as he stared at Amenus. There was the same gaze of hatred that I felt. Perhaps he too, was a victim of Amenus' savagery.

None of Gerald's attacks can hit Amenus, and vice versa. They are like equal opponents. The flower field around us becomes a sea of flames, the ground drying and cracking from the explosions. The elves do not dare to intervene.

One ultimate attack from Gerald manages to make Amenus fly backward. Their fierce battle comes to a halt, and the sound of gasping for breath surrounds us. Gerald stands before the elves, protecting them if Amenus attacks again.

Amenus looks even angrier than before, but he doesn't say anything. He steps back slowly then, with a sudden movement, Amenus runs away. So fast that his move looks like a flash. Coward.

"Hero," the elf commander mutters.

The other armies mutter the same words. This scene is familiar to me.

"You must be the hero!"

"Were you sent to help us?"

"He must be the hero of the prophecy!"

They shout, laugh, cry and dissolve in happiness. Gerald stares at them silently until the commander takes his hand and kneels before him.

"Get up!"

He immediately gets up after Gerald gives the order. Are they really easy to believe in strangers just because they have been helped?

"Are you the hero who will protect this world?"

Gerald glances at the pitiful-looking soldiers. Some of them are injured, while others are dead. There is not the slightest bit of hope for them against Amenus.

"It can't be helped. Since I can't return to earth, I will protect you for now."

They cheer happily. With dances and songs of triumph, they bring Gerald to Kiran. I follow them into the kingdom of the giant tree, up to the top of the tallest tree. Kiran still looks the same as the last time I visited. The curious eyes of the people and the children running around carrying flowers are all similar to what I experienced.

Gerald dosen't look as confuse as I did. He is a man full of confidence, even when they bring him to the royal assembly hall. They open the door to the King's room and Gerald walk in graceful steps.

"Salute to the King Barka of Kiran!" Everyone bows down at the man sitting on the throne.

That King doesn't look like Sarkan, the King I met at Kiran. Is that his father? The predecessor before Sarkan became King?

'You must be very confused.' I heard the oracle's laughter.

"Who's that king?"

'He's King Barka. He ruled Kiran five thousand years ago.'

Five thousand? Five thousand years before I was born?

'Yes. Amenus and Gerald the Hero came five thousand years ago. Humans cannot grow old in this world. They can only die by accident, disease, or being killed.'

I take a deep breath. My brain is working really hard to make sense of this situation. I died in 2025 at the same time as the gate's appearance. Twenty years later, which is 2045, Amenus and Gerald entered Greyos. Five thousand years after that, I was reincarnated in this world.

That means the earth is currently 7045 years old. My heart beats really fast, and I can't breathe. Gray and everyone I know on earth must be dead. I have no reason to defend the entire worlds even more.

'Don't think about it too much. Time runs differently in every world. It would be hard to explain, but every world has its own time. One day on earth can equal a hundred years here or more. I'm not sure. I'm not interested in counting it.' The oracle peeks into my brain again. But this time, what she says makes me feel better.

My vision suddenly fades. Gerald and King Barka disappear, replaced by flashes of events that keep spinning. I feel like I am watching a movie at a high speed. All of that could fit into my head so clearly.

'Hundreds of years later, Amenus returned with an even greater army and force. No one knows where he got his power. Actually, I know, but that's a long story. You will find out for yourself someday. Anyway, he fought against various other empires in this world and built his own empire. He also attacked Kiran, but thanks to Gerald, Kiran was never invaded by Amenus' troops.'

I see Gargan and Gerald make a deal. The ugly Gargan becomes as beautiful as when I released her curse. But it isn't for long; as soon as the agreement ends, she returns being a cursed creature.

'The war continues. Amenus is the most feared figure in the world, while Kiran is considered the strongest kingdom because they have Gerald. Five thousand years passed until finally, fifty years ago, Amenus kidnapped the Princess of Kiran. At the same time with that, Gerald suddenly disappeared. The princess and Gerald never appeared again until now.'

So, that's the reason why Gerald suddenly disappeared, and the elves were very happy when they found a hero. No wonder they immediately considered me a hero since I also hunted Amenus, just like Gerald.

"Then where is he now?"

Silence for a moment. The oracle doesn't immediately answer, as if she deliberately let me be tormented waiting for her answer.

'Here. He's here in Kiran.'
