Edward chuckled.
“Many powerful men want favours from me. They even beg me to marry their daughters. You won’t regret marrying me. I promise.”
Grace frowned even deeper.
‘What kind of shameless man is this?’ She thought to herself.
How could he make such claims while looking like a beggar?
“Get over it! I know you want to marry me because of my family’s wealth, but I’ll never marry you,” she said.
Edward frowned because he did not even know who she was or her family.
“Let’s pretend nothing happened and go our separate ways. My family is very powerful, so if you don’t keep your mouth shut, I will make sure you lose your tongue.” Grace warned.
Edward shrugged and nodded.
“If that is what you want, you have my word.”
Since the woman had such a low opinion of him, he saw no reason to keep persuading her, making it seem like he was desperately eager to get married.
“Now leave!” Grace told him coldly.
Edward dressed up and left quickly without saying another word.
He felt a bit annoyed that she was acting like he had taken advantage of her, but what a joke.
He was a man with a fiancée. Now, he had betrayed his fiancee to save another woman.
Edward composed himself and pondered his next steps.
First, he was going to pay a visit to his fiancée for the first time as planned.
But before that, he needed to have breakfast.
Just as he stepped out of the hotel, a fleet of cars pulled over.
Edward watched as a man in his late fifties stepped down.
The man instantly fell to his knees before him.
“Master Of Infinite Powers, I am Albert Morgan, and it’s an honour to finally meet you.”
He kept his gaze down in a most respectful manner.
Albert Morgan rang the bell, and Edward smiled as he remembered who Albert was.
He was one of the leaders of Ironclad Enterprises, an organization run by 20 powerful men who controlled the city’s business hierarchy.
Edward knew that all of them were renounced business tycoons with limitless wealth.
Albert himself was the CEO of Globalrich Ventures and chairman of the Ironclad Enterprise in Crownmore district which controlled more than half of the city’s economy.
“Stand up, Albert,” Edward said, patting Albert on the shoulder. “I’m glad you look in good shape.”
“Thank you, young master.”
Albert bowed his head humbly.
If Grace were present, she would surely never recognize this humble middle-aged man as one of the city’s foremost figures, no matter what.
“Young master, I was overjoyed when I heard about your arrival. So I prepared a special gift for you.”
Albert said as he led Edward to his car.
“This is a Globalrich platinum card; only three exist. It has a credit limit of $999 million and can be upgraded anytime. You can use it at any Globalrich store or company,” Albert said to Edward.
Edward accepted the card with a smile. “This is very kind of you.”
“I almost forgot!” Albert yelped and pulled out a keycard. “I know you just arrived in the city, and staying in a hotel might be inconvenient. I heard that you enjoy gold, so I’ve prepared a luxurious villa with a gold course for you at Golden Homes. It’s spacious, and the views are gorgeous. Please accept it.”
Edward gave Albert a meaningful look, then calmly accepted the keycard.
“What can I do for you then?”
Albert sighed, and his eyes filled with sadness.
“I do have a problem.”
“My daughter, Amelia Morgan, has been ill for some time. She occasionally has seizures and constant migraines. We have seen numerous doctors in the past few months, but none of them have been able to cure her. I need your help, young Master. Please.”
“That is not a problem. I’ll come over to your mansion tomorrow and see your daughter.”
Albert almost fell on his face in excitement.
“Thank you, young Master! Thank you!”
Albert never thought Edward would accept to help him so quickly, but he had some hope, which paid off.
He’d learned from one of the Uppers that Edward, their Master, was also the mysterious medical immortal he had been searching for, and that’s why he came to seek him immediately after Edward arrived in the city.
“Tell me if you need anything, Master. I’m at your service.” Albert said eagerly.
His long-suppressed mood due to his daughter’s health issues had finally lifted considerably.
“I’m looking for a girl, and I believe she is in the city. I need you to help me find her.”
Edward said as he pulled out an old, yellowed photograph.
In the picture, a little pony-tailed girl was smiling shyly at the camera.
Edward knew he needed Albert’s help to find the girl who saved his life and learn more about his origin. “What is her name?”“Eclipse. That’s all I can remember.”“Eclipse,” Albert repeated, rubbing his jaw, and promised. “I will do my best to locate this girl!”“Thank you.” “Your wish is my command, Master.” Albert smiled humbly. “By the way, Master, I’ll be hosting a welcome banquet for you. I have invited top celebrities and businessmen who would like to be at your service.”Edward tried to hide his frown but couldn’t. “That will bring unnecessary attention and trouble.”“But young master—”“Cancel the banquet.” Albert nodded obediently. “Yes, Sir.”Edward asked him to stop the driver at a restaurant so he could get breakfast. “Thank you for the ride. In the future, consult me before hosting such a public banquet.”“I understand. Thank you for accepting to treat my daughter.” Albert bowed deeply again before he drove away. He understood why Edward needed to keep a low profile
“There you are!” Grace’s grandfather, George Carter, exclaimed, smiling widely at Edward. “I’ve been waiting for you all day. Come on in!”“Grandpa Carter!” Edward smiled and greeted him politely. “It’s been a long time.”Grace watched her grandfather’s interaction with Edward with anger and disgust. She couldn’t believe her grandfather thought Edward was good enough to marry her. She was the CEO of Carter Ventures, for God’s sake! How could she be with such a man? She was suddenly overwhelmed with rage that she had given her virginity to such a lousy man and would now marry him.“I see you have met my granddaughter,” George said, noticing the awkward look between Edward and Grace. “Yes. She is beautiful.” Edward praised, and Grace rolled her eyes.“Perfect!” George clapped his hands in delight. “Then both of you should obtain your marriage certificate today. Come in.”He led Edward into their mansion, feeling quite happy that he was finally there to marry his granddaughter.
Edward didn’t know why Grace despised him so much, but he was willing to impress her. “Why don’t—” He started to talk, but Grace pulled out her phone and turned her back to him. “Yes, I’m right in front of the marriage agency.” She said to the person on the other end of the phone. “Yes, I’ll be waiting.”Just seconds after her phone call, a BMW 7 series pulled up to the marriage agency and stopped before them. A beautiful young woman exited the car casually. She was adorned in a pretty dress and jewellery and walked in high fashion. “Grace, how are you doing?” She hugged Grace and didn’t even spare a glance at Edward. “I’m fine,” Grace answered. “Great! I came as soon as I could.”Grace turned toward Edward reluctantly. “Rebecca, this is Edward.” She said. “Edward, this is my best friend.”Rebecca eyed Edward from head to toe and shook her head. Clean yet overly cheap shirt and pants.A pair of shoes scrubbed clean but clearly roadside goods. Not a single item of value fr
“He is with us,” Grace told the bouncer who stopped Edward from entering the club. The bouncer reluctantly allowed Edward to pass.Grace and Rebecca were welcomed warmly by the noble young men and women as they entered the club.“Grace, you look beautiful.”“Rebecca, I love your earrings.”“Do you want to sit with us?”The room was suddenly filled with comments from those who admired Grace and Rebecca. But none of them paid any attention to Edward talk more of greeting him. They assumed he was their bodyguard since he was dressed like a commoner. Who would pay any heed to an ordinary bodyguard? Edward didn’t feel uncomfortable but instead admired the interiors of the club.Grace and Rebecca found a sitting spot at the rear front, and Edward joined them. “Look! Dominic has started his bout.” Dominic was in the ring, striking his opponent skillfully. Fencing was a respectful sport; most gentlemen from wealthy families even employed masters to teach it. “Oh, how perfect.” “His m
There was a brief silence from the crowd before they erupted into laughter, amused by Edward’s boasting. “He is so ridiculous! How can such a peasant boast so much?” A man asked from the crowd. “Who does he think he is?”“I bet he knows nothing about noble sports.”“Where did he even come from?”But Edward ignored their mockery and walked up to the piste. He picked up a sword and turned to face Dominic. “I will go easy on you,” Dominic teased. “You look fragile, so I don’t want to hurt you badly.”“Just cut the crap, will you? Or do you want to surrender?” Edward asked expressionlessly. This angered Dominic, and some of the people in the crowd thought Edward was mad for his confidence.“I wonder why he feels so confident while his posture is wrong. Dominic will finish him off in a second.” “He looks like a beginner. I can’t wait to see him kneel and beg.”Rebecca nudged Grace. “I’m sure Dominic will beat him in an instant.”She knew Dominic was the best in the club and believed th
“Really?”“My Uncle told me that Mr. Albert, the chairman of Ironclad Enterprise in Crownmore district will be hosting a banquet tonight to welcome a special guest who recently arrived in the city.” Dominic’s voice, not low, instantly drew everyone’s attention.Grace’s eyes widened. “Who is this special guest?”“We don’t know him yet, but he must be a big shot. The invitation was sent to families that have joined the ironclad enterprise only.”Grace sighed when she heard this, feeling disappointed. She had been trying to help her family business join Ironclad Enterprise for a long time, but she hadn’t been successful despite pulling several strings. “It’s such a shame that my family was not invited,” Grace said. “We are still on the waiting list.”Dominic smiled proudly. “I can bring one person to the banquet tonight. If you come with me, I’ll introduce you to some members, and this can pave the way for your family to obtain the membership later. That’s why I invited you.”“Really?
Since Dominic had put the call on speaker, the whole room heard what Dominic’s father said and fell silent. Did he really say the banquet was cancelled?Dominic was so shocked that his phone almost slipped from his hand.He thought he didn’t hear his father well for a moment, but everyone else looked stunned like him.‘How could they cancel the banquet?’ He asked himself. ‘And how did Edward know about it?He knew a person had to be someone important to know anything about the Ironclad Enterprise. How could a ragged-looking man like Edward know anything about Mr. Albert?Even Grace was staring at Edward like he had grown a second head. How could he have known about such an important event? She remembered how he had bragged about being the mysterious medical immortal and wondered if he had been telling the truth.Could Edward really be a dignified man? Or was it mere coincidence? Grace couldn’t help but sigh deeply. She was really upset that the banquet was cancelled. She ha
“We should not bother ourselves with the words of this braggart,” Dominic said. “Let’s have dinner together later today and enjoy the rest of the night.”“Yes, that will be delightful.” Rebecca cried. “Have you made any arrangements?”“I will call and make the necessary preparations,” Dominic answered confidently. “It wouldn’t take so much to set up an exquisite dinner for us.”“Of course, you’re a man of your word. Unlike Edward.” Rebecca said. In the meantime, Edward received a call from Albert. “Hello, master. We need your help.” Albert spoke with urgency.“I am so sorry to disturb you. But my daughter’s condition has suddenly worsened. We have made all the necessary arrangements for her to receive treatment. Would it be possible for you to treat her this afternoon?” Albert said, politely seeking assistance, but Edward could sense how nervous and desperate he felt.“No problem. Just send me your address.” Edward replied briefly. “I do appreciate your kindness, master.” Even if
Before Dominic could respond, Jackson chipped in angrily.“Mr. Know It All, what did you do? Did you even try to help?” He asked Edward.“You almost got us into more trouble with your stupid mouth.”“Dominic was the one who scared off Black Jack, so what are you saying?”Dominic’s eyes bulged.Black Jack?!They had been speaking of Black Jack ever since? The same notorious underworld crime boss everybody knew?No wonder he felt the man looked fierce and brutal! He was suddenly happy that he arrived late. And hadn’t made any rash decisions.Phew! However, he couldn’t help but wonder when he gained such an influence to scare off Black Jack.He was definitely the important guest Jack talked about.Or who else would it be?The bumpkin?Haha!Perhaps, it was his family’s influence that worked. He smiled, “I’m sure Black Jack wasn’t scared of me. It must be my family’s connection. I do not wish to take credit.”“Oh Dominic, don’t be so generous.” Rebecca cried.“I mean it, my family is quit
Meanwhile, Black Jack was enraged at the person who had spoken. The man dared to be arrogant to him.He even threatened to deal with him.Haa!He growled angrily. He decided to see the man for himself. However, when his gaze fell on Edward, his expression changed. He was instantly stunned.Impossible! Was he not the same man they warned them not to mess with?Even though he didn’t know who Edward was, his boss had shown him his picture.A couple of days ago, his boss had gathered all his subordinates. He warned them to steer clear of the man in the photo.Or God himself wouldn’t help them if they messed up.And the man was right here in the same room with him?He gulped. He had fucked up greatly. What excuse would he give his boss for offending the man they cautioned them about? He stole a glance at Edward and shivered. He had repeatedly offended him.Cold sweats broke out on his forehead as he thought of his punishments.Oh! He was in trouble!“What’s up? Are you having a party?”At
Just as Grace and the others gasped with shock, Edward quickly caught Grandpa George from falling to the ground.Actually, he had anticipated the fall.Grandpa George was an old man.How could he endure the terrible news of what his grandson had done, especially, given his remorseless attitude?Edward gently laid him down on the sofa.“What are we going to do?” Mrs. Carter cried out.At this point, everyone including Jackson was panicking.Grandpa George had fainted. Now who would control the situation?Meanwhile, Black Jack smiled menacingly.“Enough dilly-dallying, pay up now! I will either leave here with my $1 billion or your head, Jackson!” The Carters were dumbfounded and terrified.Their total assets barely exceed 2 billion dollars, and their liquid funds were less than 800 million dollars. Where are they going to come up with 1 billion cash all of a sudden? And even if they did, and compensated him with 1 billion dollars, their family would definitely suffer bankruptcy .The
Even Grandpa George knew Black Jack. His face paled. He cleared his throat and spoke in a serious tone.“Lord Jack, please what has happened? My family has not caused any trouble.”Black Jack snorted and frowned. “Jackson owes me $1 billion and he is yet to repay it.”“Jackson? That’s impossible.” Grandpa George responded.A WHOOPING 1 BILLION DOLLARS?He was taken aback and nearly fainted. The rest of the family exchanged glances in shock.“Impossible?” Black Jack barked out in anger. “He gambled excessively at my casino, racked up debts, and engaged multiple women on credit!”“What? That—that can’t be.” Grandpa George was stunned.“That must be a misunderstanding!”“Bullshit! I never joke!” Black Jack’s voice thundered across the room. “Why don’t you ask your grandson?”“Since he dared to borrow money for gambling and women, then he shouldn’t lack the courage to admit it.”Black Jack laughed slyly.Grandpa George’s face darkened and he turned to Jackson in anger. He hoped that it
“I can see you’re as foolish as you look.”Edward chuckled casually. This angered Jackson.“Hand over the card, you lazy rat!”“Or what?” Edward asked, folding his hands. He was amused by Jackson’s audacity.“Or I will nail you to the wall myself.”. Jackson threatened.Edward scanned Jackson up and down.He smiled coyly. “Do you think I’m scared of your little threat?”“Give me the card or I’ll break your legs here and now!” Jackson sneered.“You? Break my legs?” Edward mocked. “Don’t you think it will be the other way round?”“You must have a death wish.” Jackson retorted, clenching his fist.“I am a big shot in Crownmore and I have connections everywhere, especially in the underworld.”“And?” Edward replied sarcastically.Jackson narrowed his eyes.He felt insulted by Edward’s attitude.Who was he to talk to him like that?“Watch your words, Edward.” He warned.“You just mark my words! They will turn you into minced meat without breaking a sweat! ”“Jackson, stop that nonsense!”Ju
“Who does he think he is?” Mrs. Carter asked her husband, fuming.Edward had walked out on them.Unbelievable! The piece of shit was suddenly acting high and mighty.“How dare he!”“How could he extort our daughter?!”She couldn’t suppress her anger. Her eyes bulged as she spoke. She didn’t believe Edward would have the guts, even in her wildest dreams. The riff-raff was even more disgraceful than she thought!A common thief!“Are you going to let him get away with this?”“He should be dealt with!”She urged her husband to take action.Edward couldn’t take $1.2 million from their daughter.Never! That was their money!“He needs to be taught a lesson!”“The Carter family cannot be disrespected by that peasant!”“And I demand we get the money back!”She also blamed Grandpa George in her mind.He accepted the trash into their family. And married him to their daughter. If he hadn’t, their family would never have been burdened by the petty thief!Mr. Carter nodded his head in agreement.“
Grace’s parents appeared immediately after she left.It seemed they had been waiting to give Edward a piece of their mind.Such a way to give him A CHANCE.They glared at Edward in a condescending manner.“Don’t stare at the back of my daughter like a toad lusting after a swan.”Mrs. Carter scrunched up her nose in disgust. ”“She is a woman you’ll never have!”“Oh really? But she is already mine, isn’t she?”Edward’s lips curled slightly into a half smile.“So what? Don’t get too cocky! My daughter will divorce you sooner or later!” She spat. “She is clearly out of your league.”“Only young talents like Dominic deserve my daughter.”“That’s true. Unlike you, Dominic is capable and renowned. Whereas you’re a petty beggar dreaming of a throne,” Mr. Carter added coldly.“No one welcomes you here in this family.”“And if you have enough dignity, leave before you become a stain of shit.”Edward scoffed coldly. “Be thankful you’re my in-laws and I have respect for your family.”“As for
Grandpa George thanked Edward and retired to his room.Meanwhile, Grace overheard their conversation. She couldn’t help but frown at Edward’s shameless boasting. How could he undermine the value of the Ironclad membership? No big deal?Seriously? What effort had he made to assist her?Did he obtain the invitation to the banquet for her? No!Did he have any connections in the city? No!Her blood boiled with anger. The bumpkin could never stop boasting of his imaginary abilities. But he would not lift a finger to help her.Even if he wanted to, how could he?What would a man from the forest know?He would only assist in bringing shame to her family.Argh! She walked up to him in anger.“I can see you have improved your deceptive acts. It is indeed your talent.”Edward narrowed his eyes at her, “What do you mean?”“You lied to Grandpa that you will help me.” She scoffed. “What can you possibly do?”“Will you obtain the Ironclad membership by boasting of your great skills?”“Or are you s
“Grandpa, I — I think there is no —”What reasonable excuse would she give her grandfather? Before she could think of a suitable idea, Edward suddenly spoke up.“Grandpa George, I appreciate your kindness but I don’t want to be Grace’ assistant.”“For now, I’ll help her whenever I can, though.”Grandpa George also felt that his demand was too forceful.Forcibly insisting might not yield sweet results, and could easily trigger resistance from both sides.“Alright, as you both wish, then.”Finally, he gave up insisting and tilted his head, “Please help her if you have the time.”“Of course! You can count on me.” Edward nodded. All he had to do was make a phone call and the Carter family would be selected.Grace wouldn’t even need to become a candidate first in order to become a member.Easy peasy!Grandpa George smiled. “That is great.”Meanwhile, Grace was dumbfounded.Did Edward really save her from embarrassment? What a surprise!Maybe he wasn’t as useless as she believed. And even i
