Chapter 004

“There you are!”

Grace’s grandfather, George Carter, exclaimed, smiling widely at Edward.

“I’ve been waiting for you all day. Come on in!”

“Grandpa Carter!” Edward smiled and greeted him politely. “It’s been a long time.”

Grace watched her grandfather’s interaction with Edward with anger and disgust.

She couldn’t believe her grandfather thought Edward was good enough to marry her.

She was the CEO of Carter Ventures, for God’s sake!

How could she be with such a man?

She was suddenly overwhelmed with rage that she had given her virginity to such a lousy man and would now marry him.

“I see you have met my granddaughter,” George said, noticing the awkward look between Edward and Grace.

“Yes. She is beautiful.”

Edward praised, and Grace rolled her eyes.

“Perfect!”

George clapped his hands in delight.

“Then both of you should obtain your marriage certificate today. Come in.”

He led Edward into their mansion, feeling quite happy that he was finally there to marry his granddaughter.

He believed Edward was the perfect match for Grace and thought highly of him and their union.

Edward was still a bit shocked that the lady he helped and slept with was his fiancée.

She was indeed right that her family was wealthy and powerful.

He glanced at her and noticed she was staring at him with disdain.

“Edward, I think you should get married as soon as possible. There’s no need to waste time, is there?”

George suggested.

“I—”

Edward stopped talking when two figures entered the living room.

They looked cheerful until their eyes scanned the room and fell on him.

Grace’s parents had come to see the man that George had picked for their daughter.

Immediately they saw Edward, a dissatisfied frown crept to their faces.

“Is this the man you want our daughter to marry, or is this his butler?”

Grace’s mother, Camilla Carter, asked.

She looked at Edward’s overly plain attire, especially the low-priced shoes commonly seen at roadside stalls, and almost lashed out in anger.

She simply couldn’t believe her daughter, who was so beautiful and sought after by many heirs of wealthy and prominent families, would marry such a ragged-looking man.

No! No way!

“Yes. This is Edward, and he will marry Grace.” George answered.

Grace’s father scoffed in disbelief.

“Are you sure, father? This man will drag the Carter name into the mud. Can’t you see how cheap he looks? He will bring nothing but disgrace to our daughter and family!”

“Yes, father. Everyone will laugh at our family. What will I say to my friends?”

Camilla added, her beautiful face contorting with anger.

“That’s enough!”

George said, coming to Edward’s defence.

“Edward has just returned from a remote town, so he’s not accustomed to the city’s lifestyle. But that doesn’t mean he is cheap and useless. You should all treat him well and help him blend in.”

“But father, he is a nobody and—”

However, George waved his hand and shunned Grace’s mother.

“They will get married today, and that is final.”

From his tone, Grace’s parents knew there was no point in arguing anymore.

Even Grace accepted her fate and sighed.

She knew her grandfather would not tolerate any disrespect from her even though she was handling the family business.

She was only disappointed that her grandfather made such a terrible match for her and that she would marry a worthless man.

She immediately resolved to keep her distance from Edward after their marriage.

She would definitely “HELP EDWARD BLEND IN” and show him that he wasn’t on her level!

“Get dressed and go to the marriage agency,” George said.

In about an hour and a half, Grace and Edward successfully signed all the paperwork and obtained their marriage certificates from the marriage agency.

Immediately after the certificate was given to them, Grace left hurriedly.

Edward chased her, wondering why she looked like she had been sentenced to an ill fate.

“You don’t look happy. You should brighten up. We just got married.”

Grace scowled at him. “I can never be happy while being married to you. You’re a stain to my reputation, and all my friends will mock me for being with you.”

“Grace—”

“Don’t call my name,” She hissed. “I don’t want you to come close or touch me. This marriage means nothing to me. You’re just a petty braggart.”

“No, I’m not. I have amazing skills, and you should be happy we are married.”

“Happy, my foot!”

“Most people call me the medical immortal because of my skills. You should be proud that you married a man like me.”

Edward thumped his chest and declared confidently.

“Oh, you must be delusional. How can you claim to be the medical immortal? You really have no shame. Stay away from me.” Grace said.

“You’re now my wife. That is not possible.”

“My grandfather made a mistake by arranging this marriage, and I’ll prove that to him soon.” Grace spat.

“We can make this work if you’re patient enough to know more about me. I am sure you’ll love me more then.”

“That will never happen,” She insisted. “This marriage will not work out even in a thousand years. So stop daydreaming!”
