Learning about their death

“And, you are his grandson, Leo.” Kayden addressed firmly.

Leo looked at him with eyes full of suspicion.

“How am I his grandson?”.

“I’ve been living in the orphanage till 2 months ago.”

Kayden sighs. “Yes, but you hadn’t been living there since birth.”

“It was me who had sent you there in the first place.”

Kayden’s reasoning made no sense to Leo.

“Why did you send me to the orphanage? Who are you?”.

“Who are my parents?”.

“Why are you telling me about them right now?”.

“That’s because, this is the right time to tell you about it,” Kayden’s eyes narrowed as he glanced at the picture in Leo’s hands.

“Your parents had died in a car accident 15 years ago. And I had witnessed it.”

“My parents died?” Leo gasped.

“Yes.”

“It was 15 years ago! And why are you telling me this right now? Where have you been all these years?”.

Kayden looked away. “Gathering information about the accident.”

“From what I had noticed, the accident was pre-planned and was done intentionally.”

“That’s why, after rescuing you, I took you to the orphanage to keep you safe from any danger coming your way.”

Leo’s head was starting to spin from all the things that he heard from Kayden.

All these times when he questioned why his parents abandoned him, he used to think of it as his fault.

But, the reality is so much different than what he used to think.

“I know, what I’m saying is quite hard for you to believe.” Kayden continued to talk.

“But, none of this is a lie.”

Leo raised his eyes, and asked, “You said that the accident was pre-planned and done intentionally. Who plotted this accident?”.

“Who took away my parents from me?”.

Kayden lowered his eyes and took out another picture from his pockets.

He handed it over to Leo.

“Who’s this man?” Leo asked.

“This man right here is your uncle, Adam Kingston.” Kayden addressed in a serious tone. “And also.”

“The murderer of your parents.”

Leo gasped, as his eyes widened in shock.

“M-my….uncle is…the murderer of my parents?”.

“Yes.”

“He had planned your accident from the very beginning.”

“But why?”.

“Why did he do that for?”.

“Why would he-“.

Kayden looked out through the window. “Out of jealousy.”

“Since he was little, your Uncle was very much jealous of your dad.”

“But, things escalated fast after your grandpa’s will was found.”

“It was written, that after his death, all the properties and the company, everything that he possesses will belong to your dad and you.”

“And that forced him to make his master plan of attempting to assassinate your family along with you during your trip to the hillside.”

“Jealousy is a scary thing. It can make people go blind and do things like these.”

“Your uncle fell victim to it as well.”

“And…that’s why he took away my family from me?” Leo’s voice resonated in Kayden’s ears.

“Not wanting your dad and you take everything from him, he did this.”

Leo went silent for a second.

When he finally raised his face he looked at Kayden with determined eyes.

“Can you take me to where he is at the moment?”.

“I want to see him, and ask him why he took away my family from me.”

“Please, keep this request of mine.”

Kayden placed a hand on his shoulder, staring deep into his eyes.

“Trust me, Leo!”.

“I want to see that man’s downfall more than you.”

“And that’s why I had been waiting all these years, to take revenge.”

“For what?” Leo retorted.

“To gather information about him!”.

“How do you think I know so much about him?”.

“I had been gathering information while staying in the mansion for all these years, waiting for you to grow up so that you can accept your parent's death and make terms with it!”.

A tear ran down his cheeks.

“This isn’t right man!” he grunted.

“I had been holding a grudge against them for so many years thinking that they probably didn’t need me, that’s why they sent me to the orphanage.”

“I was unwanted, that’s what I told myself whenever I felt sad.”

“And now, you are telling me they are dead as well, and they didn’t send me to the orphanage.”

“This has to be a sick joke or something.”

“Why always the bad things have to happen to me?” he yelled.

“What have I done to deserve this?”.

“What….”.

Kayden pulled him close for a hug, patting Leo’s back.

“You haven’t done anything to deserve all this, believe me!”.

“But….if destiny had decided this for you, what can you do?”.

Leo calmed down a few minutes later.

He wiped away his tears with his hands and took deep breaths.

Kayden watched him with a worried face.

“I want to take revenge.” He stated, looking up at Kayden.

“My uncle needs to pay for all this.”

“And, I’ll be the one who’s going to punish him for it.”

“Not any law.”

Kayden pats his shoulders, with a smile.

“I know.”

“And that’s why I am going to help you out from now on.”

“Thanks, Kayden,” Leo said. “Thanks for telling me everything.”

“You are more than welcome.”

“But, instead of thanking me, you should thank your grandpa. Without him, you wouldn’t have been able to take any step against your uncle in any possible way.”

Leo became puzzled. “Why’s that Kayden?”.

“That’s because….”.

“In the will written behind by your grandpa, it’s stated, that if anything were to happen to your dad or you, then the property would be given to the govt. unless, the current heir, meaning you claim it within 15-20 years.”

“Meaning?”.

“Your uncle may be sitting at the top of the treasure which will never be his in his entire lifetime.”

“Cause,” Kayden smiled, pointing at Leo.

“You are going to claim it under your name. So, your uncle can’t take it for himself.”

“But, didn’t Uncle know this when he plotted the accident?”.

“Unfortunately, no.”

“How?”.

“Your grandpa is originally the one who created the contract in the first place.”

“While he was alive and well, he had told the lawyer to make changes if he thought something like this happened.”

“The lawyer was told to act as Grandpa had told him to.”

“So, after the accident occurred, and your parents were found dead, and you weren’t found as well, the lawyer made changes to the will, with the permission statement from your grandpa.”

“Though, this was quite risky on his part to trust the lawyer to do all this. The lawyer didn’t cheat on him, and did only what he was instructed to.”

“Your grandpa even video-recorded it. quite a genius folk, I must say.”

“But, if he knew all this, why didn’t he warn Dad that Uncle was plotting all this?” Leo retorted with an angry face.

“Why did he leave both of them to die while knowing everything?”.

Kayden sighs.

“You can’t predict the future, and blame someone for something that they haven’t done yet.”

“And without any proof on top of that!”.
