Chapter 5

"That's impossible!" Jasmine screamed as she pointed at Richard with her forefinger. She then quickly turned to the two waiters who served them earlier. "It must be fake!"

Edward looked at the black card that Richard showed him with a frivolous look. "You are poor. How could someone like you have a black card?" He laughed contemptuously at Richard, his eyes looking him up and down. "Don't make things up and embarrass yourself in public."

Jasmine gave him a fierce look. "A poor person like you pretending to be rich in front of me who knows you. It must not be a real black card." Jasmine snorted.

Although Jasmine said so, she seemed to look intently at the card. Her eyes locked there curiously. "Is it a black card?" Jasmine's mind moved quickly to stretch out her hand and try to grab the card to look at it. But Richard, who realized it first, pulled her hand away, thwarting Jasmine's attempt.

Richard tilted his head to look at Jasmine. "What are you doing?" He looked at Jasmine flatly. "You want to take it?"

Richard knew what Jasmine was like. He knew what she was willing to do for what she wanted. All this time, Richard had fallen for her trick and only realized everything now. Jasmine retracted her hand, closed her lips tightly, and bit the inside of them, as she usually did when upset. "Yes. The fake must be destroyed or else it will be misused by people like you." Jasmine thought that maybe the card Richard was holding was real, and he managed to get it from somewhere. If the card was his, then he could have all the fun he wanted.

"Why are they making a fuss in a place like this?" Their commotion made some of the other patrons glance in their direction. Some were annoyed by the commotion, and some were watching as if their situation was an interesting one. Meanwhile, the officials on duty were still watching nearby and hadn't made any decisions yet.

"Counterfeits should be torn up and destroyed," Edward spoke condescendingly. "It's embarrassing that you would go to such lengths to seek recognition," Edward replied to Jasmine's words. He also deliberately raised his voice so that others would hear his words and join in making fun of Richard, who was rich.

Richard clenched his hands tightly, hearing their words. "This is not a fake card at all." He said it firmly. "This card is real, and I can use it to pay for what I want." He showed it off to them, confirming that the object in his hand was what they thought it was.

Jasmine frowned a look of dislike on her face. "How could it be a real card." She denied it. "You're just a fish merchant at the market and it's also a small shop. How could someone who lives a hard life and hitchhikes like you have a black card." Jasmine laughed contentedly. She looked at Richard, who was just silently staring at her. Jasmine was not bothered by that at all. She still looked down on Richard.

Edward laughed along. He looked at Richard with a contemptuous look. "You should have appeared before Jasmine because you wouldn't have fooled her."

Jasmine looked away laughing, folded her arms across her chest, and looked back at him. "Don't dream you can pay for it because all this time when I wanted expensive things, you couldn't give them to me."

The gifts that Richard could give Jasmine were never more than tens of dollars, even after he had set aside money to buy them for several months. But now his circumstances had changed. His once-troubled economy was no longer a problem for him.

Richard looked away from Jasmine to the waitress next to him. "Process the payment immediately."

"B-but this necklace costs thirty million dollars, sir." The saleagirl spoke hesitantly. It was the price of the jewelry that was so fantastic.

Richard gave her a cold stare. "Then?" The servant was surprised. "Just process it."

The waiter finally took the card held by Richard and watched the transaction seriously.

As the transaction was processed on the machine, the waiter's eyes rounded. He who had believed Jasmine and Edward's words and treated Richard with condescension now turned his head. "Sir, the purchase was successfully processed." She told Richard, but his gaze checked towards Jasmine and Edward.

"How come?" Jasmine stared at the clerk and then switched quickly to Richard and Edward in turn. Jasmine looked surprised. Her heart was beating rapidly as something he only thought to be true turned out to be true.

"No way!" Edward was still in disbelief. "Isn't he just a poor man?" He asked Jasmine, who looked at him but ignored him. Edward clearly remembered that Jasmine had often complained about her life, with Richard being full of hardship.

Jasmine leaned closer to him. "How come you have that black card?"

Richard smiled faintly, almost imperceptibly. He seemed satisfied when he saw the look of surprise on Jasmine's face. "I told you that things can change." He answered as he walked past Jasmine towards the counter.

The salesgirls who had earlier processed Richard's purchase was now neatly wrapping the necklace Richard had bought and handing it to Richard. "Here, sir, thank you for purchasing at our store." Then he bowed. "And sorry for my rude behavior earlier. I thought that what they said was true."

Richard looked at her flatly as he picked up the luxurious paper bag containing his necklace. Richard then turned to face Jasmine, and he held out his hand, holding the paper bag in front of her. "You want this necklace?"

Jasmine was initially clueless about why the paper bag was directed at her. Only later did she look down and notice the paper bag. Jasmine instantly nodded her head, her hand squeezed tightly. It was like she was slapped by a reality that made her unable to control herself. She did not expect that her ex-husband was much richer than her current boyfriend, as evidenced by the expensive necklace she could buy.

"But I can't just give it to you." Richard pulled back his outstretched hand. "Since you have cheated on me and we have divorced, isn't this wrong?" He spoke in a cold tone. "I don't have any relationship with you anymore that I need to do well."

The look in Jasmine's eyes seemed to change. She looked desperate. "So, do you want to give it to me if our relationship is okay?"

Richard stared at her for a moment. Then he replied, "I don't know." He seemed indifferent. "Maybe I will consider it."

Jasmine glanced at Edward and quickly returned her gaze to Richard. "I could leave Edward for you!" She answered quickly, while Edward looked dumbfounded.

"Jasmine! What are you saying?" Edward tried to escape it, but Jasmine paid him no mind.

Richard became interested in the situation. He decided to play the woman more. "Are you serious?" He baited Jasmine. "But shouldn't you have apologized to me first?" He pretended to be annoyed. "You have made the mistake of cheating on me."

Without arguing, Jasmine, who wanted the necklace that Richard had and felt that living with Richard again was a better choice, immediately reached out her hand to grasp Richard's hand. "Richard, forgive me." She whined. "I did, but you know I'm like this because of him." Jasmine pointed at Edward, and Richard glanced at her. "He was the one who teased me, so I...." She lost her words. "I'm sorry."

Edward looked at her angrily. "What are you saying? We like each other." He tried to approach Jasmine, but she avoided him.

Jasmine shook her head and looked only at Richard. "That's not true, Richard. I never liked him."

Edward was flabbergasted. He felt he had been lied to and used by Jasmine. "Nonsense!" He was hurt. Jasmine shouldn't have treated him like that when it was Jasmine who approached him first. "So you now want to choose her over me?" He tried to pull Jasmine's hand away.

Jasmine swatted Edward's hand away violently. "I don't want to be with you anymore. I never liked you!"

Edward's gaze rounded to stare at her fiercely. "You'll regret it, Jasmine!" Edward then moved on, leaving the place.

After Edward's departure, Jasmine immediately turned to Richard. She tried to hug Richard, but Richard seemed reluctant and stepped back to avoid her, realizing Jasmine looked at him with a changed look. "I've left Edward for you. I've also apologized to you, so we'll get back together, right?" Jasmine looked at him expectantly, but since Richard did not answer, she tried to reach for the paper bag. "So give this to me."

As Jasmine tried to grab it, Richard reached into the paper bag, opened the box, and threw the necklace onto the floor with such force that the diamonds fell out of it and scattered.

"What are you doing?" Jasmine screamed hysterically. She looked angrily at Richard.

Richard looked at it coldly. "Instead of giving it to you, I'd rather destroy it."

Jasmine bent over and, looking at the floor, now stood up to look at Richard. "I have left Edward for you. You can't behave like this to me. "So we have to get back together."

"I don't want to." Richard pushed her. "It is your business if he leaves. I will never take his place for you."

"Richard, you can't do that to me! My life could suffer if I don't end up with you or him!" Jasmine got up and tried to chase Richard, but Richard didn't care.

"Just enjoy your miserable life and leave me out of it." Richard walked out. Behind him, Jasmine was still following him. But Richard ignored her.

Richard walked to the Roll Royce that was parked not far from the shop. He opened the door and got into it. Seeing that, Jasmine stopped her steps for a moment. She was stunned by her shock. Then, soon, she came to her senses and started calling out to Richard. "Richard, wait for me... Richard!" She approached the car and tapped on the glass on the side where Richard was sitting.

Richard opened the windshield and looked at her. "Now you have lost everything." He tapped the glass again, and the Roll Royce he was riding sped off.
