7: THE WEDDING OF THE CENTURY

He had been on the street for a week and every time he woke up in the morning the decision was the same.

(Eat or look for work? Even if I find work, I'll be hungry, but after ending my hunger, I don't know how I'll get food again. If I had a little money to at least get back on my feet, that would be good.)

He was unshaven and his eyes were sunken and gaunt like the rest of him. His hair was greasy and messy because he hadn't showered in 3 days.

"Atchiuuu!!" Andrew sneezed because the cold was still strong even though it had stopped snowing 5 days ago.

Sterling City was always bustling in the morning. The streets were full of dynamic people who moved from one place to another as if they were in danger of life or death. The escalators leaving the train station were full of people taking the steps without waiting for the stairs to do their job.

(One day I was one of them. I had work and I was in a hurry to arrive before the entrance time.)

He didn't go around Sterling Square because he didn't want to risk running into his previous employer.

"F*ck, this homeless is stinking," a man passing close to Andrew held his nose and almost gave in to the urge to hit Andrew's head with the suitcase in his hand.

Andrew just deviated and leaned against the walls of the stores because that was where the sea of people did not reach. They all walked along the main streets as far away from the walls as possible.

Andrew looked at the floor as if looking for something, but couldn't find it. So he stood near a street ashtray from a nearby restaurant.

"Pick" a badly smoked cigarette hit the top of the ashtray and then fell to the floor.

(Amen, a cigarette.)

Andrew hurriedly picked up the cigarette. He was afraid it would go out because he didn't know how he was going to light it.

"UFFFFHHH! FUHHHHHH!" smoked the first cigarette of the day. That would ease the rumbling of his belly and he wouldn't be hungry for a while.

Andrew puffed on that cigarette looking at the surroundings while his heartbeat slowed down. He noticed that the people passing by didn't want to know anything and they all had the look of someone who was living on automatic.

He was in South Sterling. Where gigantic screens were spread across the buildings on the site. The news posted there were several.

"The company SiTech grew by 10% on the stock exchange, and was valued at half a million."

"BRITNEY CONCERT CANCELLED IN PARIS"

"Westli FC beats Arsenol 3-1"

"Alice Westmins and Alonso Magnum had engaged off camera"

Andrew was now paying attention. He could see Alice's face in a big way. What did your ex-fiancée do next to her best friend?

"I don't like to announce things like this, but I have a big announcement to make that will move the country. I have become the husband of Alice Westmins and the Pland and GRANT companies will merge into one to satisfy as many customers as possible," Spoke Alonso Magnum at a press conference.

CLAP!!! CLAP!!! CLAP!!!

Andrew now realized who he was. He remembered Alice mentioning him once. He was the son who had inherited the Pland Company. Brittany's newest young billionaire.

(What? Now that I realize his father was the richest man in the country and 3 years ago they said he died in an accident in his private jet. The owner of the company "Pland")

Andrew was surprised because he didn't know that the two were getting married. He didn't even know that Alice liked him.

In the report, Alice appeared in a photo kissing Alonso's hand. She looked very happy next to him.

"Alice! Why? What did you want from me? Do I don't deserve you?" Andrew would start crying again and people on the street would pretend not to see his little scandal.

A beggar passing by thought Andrew was crazier than he was. After all, he was looking at pictures of some of the richest people in the country and he was speaking as if he knew them personally.

(How did that happen? What didn't I notice?)

Andrew missed Alice's sex very much even though she looked at him with disgust from time to time.

“Brrrrruuuummm!” A motorbike passed Andrew and he pulled away from the road. He was again in shock and frightened by the noise of that exhaust.

"Coff, Coff" he wiped his mouth with his coat and started looking for food again. He knew it wasn't long before he started to starve.

Time passed quickly, and while trying to avoid the wet pavement for fear of slipping, Andrew noticed a magazine store that had a window attached to the walls. And on the cover of almost every magazine, there were pictures of Alice and Alonso smiling. Or phrases by Alonso about the creation of the new conglomerate.

"PAM!" a badly eaten hamburger sat in a garbage can nearby.

Andrew hadn't even thought. It was reflex that made him approach the crate and look for that hamburger that was sure to be still hot.

(Finally! Something to eat. I almost starved to death. If there was one of these every day at least I could start thinking about looking for a job.)

That hamburger was a double burger and there were even some nuggets and salad. Later he would drink some water from the lake and have one more day to live.

He chewed that hamburger with a lot of appetite. He realized that it was comforting and enabled him to dream of more.

When he was finished he thought about those magazines again and now the tears didn't stop running down his face. If he continued like that his tears would freeze back to his face and he would get a cold.

He tripped over a rock that was halfway down the path and "PAFF!" fell over his left arm and his face scraped the floor.

"Oh, F*ck! F*ck. Shit, I'm done." Andrew cursed in the middle of an empty street where someone had seen him fall to the ground and pretended not to.

Still lying on the floor Andrew noticed a white card that was in front of his eyes. As far as he could tell it was in his pocket because it smelled like him and was wrinkled.

“MAKE A WISH!” was what was written on the card.
