Chapter 78 “Imagine the police coming into our wedding, just to come take you out for questioning and investigation, that would be… gross” as she said this, the expression on Jake's face made her burst into laughter. He was too damn serious. She knew the police wouldn't do something like that, for courtesy reasons, and Jake's mother would not allow them to. She was that powerful. “Well, after listening to your POV, I've come to a very simple conclusion, which is…” Jake paused for a while and Kate could hear her heartbeat in her ears. She couldn't admit her fears. “I won't cancel the wedding.it was my decision to go with it in the first place, and the Riverdales never go back on their words” Kate was beyond joyed when she heard his words. She had almost fainted when she thought he would cancel the wedding. It had been on her mind the whole day, and when he got shot, she had lost hope, her joy knew no boundaries as she ran into his arms and Jake felt the air knocked out of his l
CHAPTER 79 “What were you doing here, with him?” Owen asked Rina who was also surprised to see him there, although she didn't let it show, as she didn't want to rouse any more doubts within him. She knew fear or anxiety was the first thing someone who has already been suspicious of you, would look for whenever they see you in a compromising situation. She maintained her composure as she turned back to him with a small smile at the corner of her lips. “Owen, what are you doing here? I thought you went to work” she said as she drew near to him, acting like a concerned wife and although Owen was suspicious at first, he didn't see through her facade. He found it weird to understand her relationship with Jake in the past week, he felt as if something was going on between them. But he knew that the reasoning was totally illogical, because they wouldn't do such, when they can just settle with themselves if they please. Jake could divorce Kate if he wanted, and he was not yet married
CHAPTER EIGHTY “Where's everyone?” Owen asked when he got home. He had not come home the day before, due to extra paperwork at the office. When he was through with the signings and all, he couldn't go home as it was late already, so he slept at the office and now, he was back, but he couldn't find Mia and some others. The whole place felt empty and it was weird. This was supposed to be the time when they would be making preparations, cleaning and making arrangements. He opened the kitchen in search of Mia, but she wasn't there, and neither were the other maids. He turned and was about to head to his room when he saw one of the maids coming in through the backdoor. “Good morning sir” she greeted “Good morning” Owen replied, placing his hand on his waist, he asked “Where are the others?” “Oh, Mia had taken them out for grocery shopping” she replied and Owen cocked a brow at her. “Grocery shopping?” He asked and the maid nodded her head. “Yeah” “Mia always went gr
CHAPTER EIGHTY ONE Maria had just gotten to the office, she got down from her car and walked into the glass doors. The workers greeted her throughout her journey to her personal office. She didn't even bother to reply to some of them, she just walked past them without even glancing back. The workers were already used to it, and some of them didn't even budge, but others were pretty concerned. She got to her personal office and there standing at the door, she could already see her assistant, holding some files in his hand and shivering at the side. She surmised that whatever he had to tell her was not good news, as that was how he behaved whenever he had bad news for her. Maria hissed and walked past him, leaving the door open behind her and he took that clue to walk in with her. She placed her hand bag on the swivel chair and walked to the windows, opening them wide enough. Her assistant stood on one side, monitoring her movements, but said nothing on it. When she was throug
CHAPTER EIGHTY TWO “I can't believe I totally forgot about it, oh it skipped my mind” Rina shouted over the phone. Owen had just called to inform her about his upcoming birthday and her joy knew no bounds, she had totally forgotten about it and she blamed it on the chain of recent activities that she had been working on. “Yeah me too, I totally forgot about it. Mia was the one who made me remember and she wants me to have a formal celebration. Heck, it's just in three days' time, and I haven't even printed cards nor written the list of guests, this is so gonna be a disaster” Owen said as he smacked himself on his forehead. He had wanted to make it a low key party, but Mia was highly against it. She said she wanted to make this one special for him, by being the event planner and the chef of the day. “There shouldn't be any reason to worry, since I am already aware, we'll plan it well and make sure it doesn't end up as a disaster. It's just a birthday party, there shouldn't be m
CHAPTER EIGHTY THREE Esme had not been able to relax ever since she got the text message from the unknown person. Although she had been warned not to call or text, she had tried contacting the person several times but the line didn't go through. She knew her son would be on the verge of giving up and this really troubled her. When he got abducted, he would have hoped that she would come to his rescue somehow, but after not seeing her for a couple of days, his hope would have reduced or died completely. She couldn't wait to keep her son in a safe zone, and then she would make Jake and his accomplices pay dearly for what they had done. Jake had told her that her son would be with her in no time, but she did know how long he was talking about. She couldn't stand by and do nothing, while waiting for them to return her son back to her, when it was very possible that they might not return him. Katherine walked into the sitting room and the only acknowledgement Esme gave her was a r
CHAPTER EIGHTY FOUR The streets were bubbly and all nooks and crannies were illuminated. One would mistake it for a festival, but it was none other than Owen's birthday party. Mai had made sure that the whole city knew of the party. Since she couldn't really decorate the whole city in such a short time, (although she could, but she would end up wasting resources, and she wouldn't want to do that) she decided to pour out her best on the street, since it belonged to Owen in the first place. They had prepared varieties of meals, as they were expecting visitors from different parts of the world, although few had started arriving already. They had planned to start the celebration by 7:00pm, and they would party till 11:00pm. They had prepared as many as possible rooms for their guests that would love to stay the night and return home the next day. Owen had wanted to celebrate it low-key and quietly, but Mia was strongly against it. She had stood strongly on the point that he should
CHAPTER EIGHTY FIVE Owen was startled when he heard the voice, the voice was unmistakably the voice of someone he was familiar with. He couldn't possibly forget that voice in this lifetime. He felt a cold chill went down his spine and his heart rate increased as memories began to flood in. Although it's been a few years, it still felt as if it all happened yesterday. He tried to regulate his heart beat, but all his efforts were futile as it only made him more nervous. “Owen” she called again and Owen turned to her slowly. He was less surprised to see a smile on her face, as she had always been a good one, although he knew she had changed due to some happenings, she had always been one to always smile. Owen wanted to smile back at her, but he couldn't find it in himself to do it. He felt uneasy. And instead of smiling, he just gave her a cocky grin. “Long time no see” Owen said, his voice shaky and she chuckled “It's all on you yuuno, I tried calling, many times, but
