Geneva city was a big city which had different parts with different perks and qualities.
There was a part of the city which belonged to the wealthy and influential in the city, only rich people could live there so the poor and average had no business going there for anything except as a worker.
Close to the center of the area a mansion stood proudly with a wide compound. The walls of the property wasn't tall in order to show the wealth of the family that lived there. It was a well known mansion in the community.
In an intricately decorated room of the mansion, Sophia was pacing about with a pensive and annoyed look on her face as she waited for her parents to arrive in the room.
It was evident that she was disturbed about something and she wouldn't rest until something had been done about it.
"Where the hell are they?" She asked in a flare of voice and action. The maid who was with her got quite scared and shook her head in response to signify that she had no answer.
Just when Sophia was about to get more pisse at the situation, the doors of the room creaked open to reveal Mr and Mrs Walton as they walked in hand in hand.
"Oh gods, please. Stop the act, it's disgusting." Sophia irritatedly recoiled at the sight of her parents behaving as though they were in deep affectionate love with one another.
Her mother frowned in mock displeasure. "You hurt my heart, Sophie. Why say such mean things to your lovely parents?" She asked.
"That's not why I wanted to see you..." Sophia grumbled.
"Then what is the matter my flower?" Her father asked in a caring tone like a father who would move mountains for his child.
"How is your fun husband?" Her mother asked with a mocking smile on her lips.
Sophia scowled. "I've gotten tired of him so I dumped him." She said.
"So soon?" Her mother asked. "I thought you would still wait for a little more time."
"He caught me having a moment with Philip in his house when he went there for a cleaning job so I called it off immediately." She said.
Her parents were surprised that Sophia had called off the fake marriage so soon. They knew what she had been doing all the while so they just watched on in amusement as she was doing as she wished.
"Then what seems to be bothering you?" Her father asked from his now seated position.
Sophia stopped pacing and placed her hands on her waist.
"I tried to make a scandal about him on the internet to make his career to plummet but someone took it down before it even used an hour." She grumbled.
"Why would anyone do such a thing for a nobody?" Her mother asked with a perplexed tone.
"That's what I don't know. What if he's hiding a secret that I don't know about?" Sophia asked.
As far as she knew, there was no one who should be willing to do such a thing for Ethan because he literally had no friends or family except for the two little kids he usually spoke to at the orphanage.
Based on the disappearance of the scandal she had set up, Sophia became jealous and upset.
"Then why don't you try to post it again?" Mr Walton asked.
"I did! The person keeps taking it down immediately as if to they're watching me!" Sophia protested.
'So that's it... This is probably not as little as it seems.' Her parents had the same thought at the same time.
"Don't worry yourself little darling. I will do something about it that will help you to uncover any secret that brat might be hiding." Mr Walton promised his daughter with confidence and assurance in his voice.
Sophia felt gratified. "Whatever you want to do then do it fast." She said, making her impatience known.
She had thought she knew everything there was to know about Ethan and she had even made him tell her everything that there was to know about his life. But the unexpected events had made her to suspect him. She didn't like it in any way.
According to Sophia, Ethan should just be the nice, dumb and naive dude she knew. She didn't even think of him as a man.
Mr Walton stood up immediately and made his move. He went out of the room without his wife and called one of his assistants and conveyed some orders to him. While Mrs Walton stared at her daughter with a contemplative gaze.
"Oh Sophia, you look like you have been through a lot of suffering, your skin is looking pake and you look so malnourished." She complained.
"It's Ethan's fault." Sophia replied. "That guy can't even take care of himself. I had to use my own money to take care of myself every time he wasn't around. Can you imagine the suffering?" She almost broke out in tears as she pinned all the blame on Ethan.
The made who stood at the side of the room sighed inwardly as she was annoyed. In her own eyes there was nothing wrong with Sophia. She hadn't even changed a bit.
'I pity poor Ethan. Why did he have to encounter such a bitch?' She inwardly felt sad for him but she kept quiet as she didn't want any trouble.
"I'm so sorry dear. Sorry you had to go through that." Sophia's mother tried to console her. "You were the one who wanted to play around so I allowed you because your father agreed to it.
Just hold on for a little while okay? Rest well and eat to your heart's content." Her mother said.
"What will dad do about him?" Sophia asked her mother.
Her mother ran her hand through Sophia's silky hair as she smiled sinisterly.
"Trust your father, by the time he's done with Ethan, he wouldn't be able to take anything off the internet again." She said with a cruel grin.
Sophia beamed up with a smile. Now that was something she could look forward to.
Ethan woke up with a strange sense of incongruity. He was very tired the previous day and had slept like a baby. He took a look around the beautiful room he found himself in and it felt alien to him until the events of the previous day came pouring into his remembrance: it was as though life had treated him to a rollercoaster of conflicting highs and lows. Ethan had a strange feeling that something bad was about to happen to him again. And just as he had that thought, Andrew knocked on his door politely. "You can come in." Ethan answered. "Good morning, young master." Andrew greeted. "Good morning Mr Andrew." Ethan still found it strange that he had a new butler. Then he looked at Andrew's face and saw that Andrew looked a bit sad and was fidgeting in a kind of way. "What's the matter?" Ethan asked curiously. "It's about your sister Sylvie..." Andrew reported. "What happened to her? Did she fall sick?" Ethan asked worriedly. "She was on her way to school with Mark this mornin
Ethan received a call the moment he stepped back into the mansion. He took a look at his phone and discovered that it was an unknown and hidden caller. With a suspicious feeling that it wasn't good news, he picked up the call. "Ethan Stone, we have your sister." A nasty voice said before Ethan could even greet. "Who the hell are you?" Ethan forgot all pleasantries and asked the question that bit him in the chest the most with rage. "Who I am is not what is important." The voice replied, causing Ethan to furrow his brows. It seemed the person or people in question wanted to keep their identity a secret. "Then what is so important that you had to kidnap my sister?" Ethan asked once again while signalling to Andrew to do something. Andrew got the signal from Ethan and fervently began to do something. Ethan hoped he would be able to track the call and that was what he was trying to do as he took a laptop and started tracing the call. All Ethan has to do was stay on the call for one m
"Shit!" Andrew also cursed. It was as if the man had known that he would be tracked and he had ended the call at 59 seconds. Just a second more and Andrew would have gotten his location. Meanwhile Ethan was dumbfounded. Why did he have to do it almost naked? He realised that Sophia was meaning to drag him down to the dust and rub his face in it. "What did he say?" Andrew asked. He had been focused on tracking that he wasn't able to pay attention. So Ethan explained it to him."You can't do that, young master." Andrew vehemently declined. "Why not?" Ethan asked. "You are Ethan Astor. You must not be humiliated in such a way. Just give the order and I will make sure that your sister is found and delivered to you by the end of the day." Andrew said. He wasn't going to allow someone as prestigious as Ethan to do such a thing. Even though he had failed with tracking down Sylvie, there was still avast amount of resources that was at his disposal to get the job done safely. Ethan didn't
After watching the video over and over again as a form of entertainment. Sophia got bored of seeing Ethan's face. At some point, she noticed that the expression on his face wasn't really genuine... Or at least that's what it felt like to her. There was still some defiance she could notice in his golden eyes. Waving it off as some form of misconception, Sophia took her phone and finally called her father, Oliver Walton. "My beautiful flower..." Oliver said the moment he picked up the call. He hadn't even wasted any time in picking up her call. "That was the best breakup present ever, dad. Thank you!" Sophia said to her father. "I'm glad you like it." Oliver nodded and grinned with pride. He felt filled him with fulfillment that he had been able to please his daughter and make her happy. "I don't like it. I love it! I could watch it hundreds of times without getting bored. It feels good to see that bastard grovel and beg me. I just wish he could do it in my presence." Sophia said
"Big brother Ethan. Where's my sister?" Mark asked with a tearful tone as he spoke to Ethan over the phone. It was already the third day and he was still yet to see his younger sister being returned to him safe and sound. He had been trying to act strong until he couldn't take it any longer and called Ethan out of frustration. "Don't worry Mark. I promise you to get Sylvie back to you today." Ethan replied with a heavy heart. He felt guilty for what was happening to Sylvie and was sorry for the pain that she might be going through and also the anguish that Mark had been forced to endure. Only Mark's sobs were heard in response to Ethan's words."I'll do everything in my power to get her back to you today. Just wait for me and I will bring her." Ethan promised to reassure him. "After they made you beg they still didn't release Sylvie. It's not fair!" Mark grumbled with more sobs. Naturally, he had seen the video of Ethan apologizing to Sophie and he felt a huge guilt weigh on his c
"Tell me what happened." Oliver demanded. He was speaking to the thug that he had hired to kidnap Sylvie over the phone. "We dropped the girl at the park and called Ethan to pick her up.He came and carried her away without even a car to pick her up!" The thug said with a sneer. "Hmm, he has probably taken her back to the orphanage." Oliver mumbled. Then he ended the call. Seeing as Ethan had retrieved his younger sister safely, Mr Oliver Walton was already thinking of something else that he could do to appease his daughter and make her cozy up to him. Naturally, his target was Ethan. He picked up his phone and dialed her number. "What is it, Dad?" Sophia asked with a tone of annoyance. Oliver felt his expectations crumble. Where was the daughter that was telling him that she loved him just a few days ago?"My beautiful flower, that's no way to address your loving father..." Oliver grumbled. "I don't have time for this dad." Sophia cut him short. "Philip is sick." "Really? What
Oliver pulled all the strings of the connections that he had. He had promised his beautiful daughter Sophia that he was going to fulfil her request. He wasn't going to fail. After all, was there not a benefit to it?But Oliver soon discovered that it was easier said than done. Despite calling in favors and using every connection he had, he was unable to get Tommy released from the airport detention center. The security were giving him an unusually hard time and refused to let him go without a thorough investigation. There seemed to be something fishy. Some hours later when Oliver wasn't able to turn up with a good result, Sophia called him again. "Hold on darling. There seems to be some problem." Oliver said to his daughter. He was already getting furious but he wasn't going to be furious with his daughter. Definitely not. "What's taking so long?" she grumbled over the phone. "Just get him out of there!""It's not that simple," Oliver replied in frustration. "They're being very
Oliver sat staring blankly ahead, his phone slipping from his limp fingers. The past few days had utterly drained him, leaving the once imposing man a hollow shell. Between the constant calls from his increasingly impatient daughter and the lawyers who could offer no solutions, Oliver felt like he was losing his mind. How had everything gone so wrong so quickly? None of it made sense to Oliver. In just one week his family's reputation had begun crumbling in the face of the public. First the drug charges against his son Tommy and now he had also failed to break him out of jail. Oliver suspected that someone was behind everything that was happening. It could have been the same person who planted drugs in Tommy's luggage to implicate him. Oliver reached his current status in the city by his hard work and dedication. He had also invested no little effort in making sure that he had a good grasp of things going on in the city, yet he wasn't able to do anything in face of such a situatio
"Do you take me for a fool or something?" Tommy replied harshly."It's the same damn thing y'all said the last time. I'm rotting in jail for something I didn't even do this time!" Tommy shouted. One of the reasons that Tommy was so infuriated with his arrest was that he hadn't even actually tried to smuggle the drugs that they said he did.Tommy was very close to a thug in his behaviour and he was confident that if he had actually tried to smuggle the drugs they claimed he smuggled, he wouldn't have been caught so easily. He wasn't a rookie in that sort of thing."Relax Tommy...""Don't fucking tell me that!" Tommy raged. "Last time I saw y'all at the court trial, you said 'relax Tommy, everything is gonna be alright. We're gonna be getting you out of here soon...'"But I'm still fucking here and you are enjoying the life out there. You're all just selfish bastards!" Tommy ranted out in frustration.Sophia felt like her chest was being pierced with sharp daggers. She remembered that i
Bounty or ransom... Philip couldn't wrap his head around it.All he knew was that he was very angry. He had given Brick a simple job to abduct and extract information. The bastard was just too greedy."What are we going to do about this sir?" Philip's butler asked in a tone of worry.Philip looked at him with an expression that portrayed the face of one who had swallowed a fly."I don't even know what to do at this moment. We just have to keep trying to reach the bastard and get him to stop what he's planning to do." Philip replied."But he doesn't need to fear you for any reason because you don't know him and you've also paid him for the services ahead of the job." The butler replied.Philip's expression contorted even more as he heard how he had inadvertently caused this sort of situation to happen."I swear to god, I'll catch that bastard one day even if it's the last thing I do." Philip swore and stomped away from the table he was seated. He headed straight to his room where he sa
Maya looked at the man who had just walked in with slight apprehension. He clearly looked like a thug of some sort. He had the appearance of someone who was into shady business. Being the detective that she was, Maya was able to tell. But, he was asking about Ethan?"Did you not hear me?" The man asked."Why are you asking about Ethan?" Maya replied with a question of her own."Did Philip send you to kidnap me? Does he want to find out information about Ethan?" Maya asked curiously while she also seethed inwardly with fury. The man turned to look at the other guy who had been there since Maya woke up."Ghoul, why is she asking me such questions?" He asked.Ghoul, the first guy, looked at the other man. "Yeah, Bolt, she's a detective. She'll ask questions that'll bore you out." Ghoul replied."Okay... Ghoul? Bolt?" Maya spoke up with a frown. "What kind of lame-ass names are those?" She asked in utter astonishment. Both Ghoul and Bolt's faces turned grim and furious immediately."What'
Ethan drove back to his mansion. It was already late at night. He pulled up in in his parking lot and turned off the engine of the car, then he remained sitting for a while.Memories of what happened earlier that night flashed in his mind and he closed his eyes thinking about it."Why did I do that?" He muttered to himself rhetorically. But Ethan knew the answer himself. Any time he was alone with Maya, there was this calm that always settled in his mind and made him feel like nothing in the world could get to him.In fact, Ethan knew that the reason he hadn't regretted going on that short trip a while ago with Maya and his siblings was mainly because of Maya. She had brought almost all of the relief and calm that he needed. His emotions and feelings towards her couldn't help but become complicated.Ethan recalled her face and also recalled the way that he had felt. Then after a while, he shook his head ruefully."I can't keep getting distracted. There's a lot that I need to do." He s
Brick... He was a slim guy in his late thirties, but he looked like someone who was already in his fifties. As much as he loved having hair on his head and desired to keep it, he was still going bald as the hair on his head had become very sparse. He usually wore round rimmed glasses and looked like a notorious swindler most of the time. But Brick wasn't a swindler, he was someone who got himself in dirty jobs and tasks for people. The craziest part was that neither his clients or his employees actually knew who he was. He was very good at being covert and unknown. This fact alone made him somehow unreliable. But everyone who actually used his services were actually sure that he would do just about anything for money even if they hadn't met him before. Brick also had a resolve to never get directly involved with a crime scene. Whatever job he was going to carry out, he was never going to show his face. And when he did speak to his employees or contractors, he always used a distor
Maya found it difficult to grasp the reality of what she had just experienced.Even though it had been a wish of hers for a very long time that she be recognised by Ethan, she still found it unbelievable to witness it.Her wide-opened eyes met the closed eyelids of Ethan while his lips were still connected to hers. Then she saw the eyelids pry open gradually.Ethan looked into her eyes and drew away slowly without breathing.Maya was still stunned. But she didn't like the fact that Ethan was already retreating before she could even enjoy it. And the next thing she did was that she grabbed his face......and pulled him in for another kiss. This was Ethan's turn to be surprised. He had still been feeling unsure about his sudden impulse to kiss her before she pulled him back in for another kiss. And this one was way more intense than the first.Maya made sure to dig into his face gently as though she was savouring her favourite cake in the world. Ethan also cooperated with the kiss.It w
Ethan and Maya sat opposite each other, their expressions bright and faint smiles danced at the edges of their lips. The food was set on the table before them but Ethan hadn't yet touched his plate. Maya was only taking little nibbles from her plate once in a while as she was completely engrossed with Ethan while he spoke to her.Anyone who looked at the both of them in the restaurant would regard them as couples who were on a date. Well, it was a date."...I was only lucky to get out of there safely because Andrew had told some bodyguards to keep me safe." Said Ethan as he came to the conclusion of his brief narration.Maya's eyes twinkled like she had just heard a fairy tale story. But after a while of thinking about it, she discovered that she hadn't been truly listening. But luckily, she still recalled what Ethan had said."That fool!" Maya cursed at Philip. Her face flushed as she imagined what would have happened to Ethan if he hadn't been protected by those two mysterious bodyg
She had cheated on Ethan with this guy called Philip. It had been a thrilling venture then at that time, every time she cheated on Ethan, she had always felt a thrill run though her body just because of the knowledge that she was cheating on Ethan. At that time, Sophia had thought that she had always enjoyed it because she was in love with Philip since she never loved Ethan in the first place. How naive had she been...Sophia knew nothing about what love was supposed to truly be like. Her parents had never shown her the best example. They also, weren't brought together by love. It was all a contract marriage. Oliver had liked Clara and then struck a deal with her parents. Clara had never said anything or complained about it then and she had been entirely content because Oliver had the money that she needed to be happy. She was willing to be blind to her feelings as long as her husband was rich. It was this ignorance and nonchalance that was now being reflected in Sophia. It was now th
They arrived in front of a famous restaurant in Geneva. It was a large building with tall walls and magnificent but exquisite designs.Ethan escorted Maya out of the car and took her to the entrance. Somehow, the guards obediently made way for Ethan to enter without obstruction, this made Maya surprised.'Did he come here beforehand to arrange all these?' She wondered inwardly. However, she couldn't dwell on that for long. She stepped into the interior and was dumbstruck. There were walls of marble and plated gold made into tiles and pillars. Every corner of the restaurant was glamorous. The tables were very sparsely arranged and neither one was close to each other, giving each group or date a relatively private space. It was clear that only extremely wealthy people could come to this place. Before any time could pass at all, they were both approached by a beautiful lady with a pretty good dress as she guided them to a separate table for the both of them. Even such a waiter had Maya s
