5. Avenge the In-laws

"What did you say, buying clothes?"

Aelish thought she had misheard, so she repeated Warrick's words. Her husband's salary had always been spent on debt and food.

There was no way Warrick had the money to buy clothes for the orphanage children. If he had, he would have bought clothes for himself since he had not bought a new one in months.

Warrick had expected Aelish to react like that. "I got a bonus for meeting the sales target. And I want to give a lot of new clothes to the orphanage kids."

Aelish was suspicious since Warrick never got any bonus from his job or help from his family. But she ended up following him because he seemed excited.

They both arrived at CT Mall, aka the biggest mall in Cordyline City. Aelish was hesitant to enter because she had heard that this mall was favored by wealthy youngsters.

The vehicles in the parking lot appeared expensive, confirming the rumors. Only Warrick's motorcycle was different; his old bike seemed to be an eyesore.

"Are you sure you want to buy clothes here?" asked Aelish, glancing around nervously.

Warrick nodded without hesitation. "I also wanted to get a present for you."

"What? I should be the one to get you a present since today is your birthday."

"I know. But you made a birthday cake for me. Let me return the favor."

Aelish could not feel happy with Warrick's words as people began to notice them. Spontaneously, she looked down to avoid their mocking gazes.

For some reason, Aelish had a bad feeling. She felt that something terrible would happen if she stepped into the mall.

Unlike Aelish, Warrick looked calm when he set foot in the mall. The humiliation he had endured for ten years could not compare to the contemptuous stares of people today.

Warrick's patience had reached its maximum level, so he would not take offense easily.

"Hey, let's stop by this jewelry store," Warrick came to a halt.

Aelish was forced to raise her head to look at the store Warrick was referring to. Her eyes almost popped out of their sockets when she saw that Warrick had stopped in front of the official Hawk Jewelry shop.

"A-Are you serious? Come on, Warrick. My monthly salary is only enough to buy one of the cheapest rings from that jewelry brand!"

Hawk was a famous jewelry brand owned by the Hawk family. Only the upper class could afford jewelry from this brand.

Aelish recalled an actor showing off a pair of Hawk's Summer Collection earrings. She could not forget the actor's mocking laughter as he saw her shocked expression when she found out the earrings cost thirty thousand dollars.

"Trust me," Warrick said, smiling mysteriously. "I promise I won't embarrass you."

Aelish had no time to resist when Warrick invited her into the Hawk Jewelry Store. As she had expected, everyone in the store turned to them with strange glances.

Then, Aelish's unpleasant feeling before approaching the mall came true. From where she stood, she could see Evie with Jane, her half-sister.

On the other hand, Evie and Jane also noticed Aelish's presence. They were surprised that Aelish dared to come to this place with Warrick.

"Has Aelish gone mad?" Jane was no longer interested in the necklace, the store assistant explained. "How can she not be ashamed to come here with her poor husband?"

Evie laughed. "Maybe they eat one meal a day so they can buy the cheapest jewelry here. Let's go meet them. Don't you miss your sister?"

Jane responded with a wicked grin. She would not waste the opportunity to humiliate Aelish and Warrick in public.

Meanwhile, Aelish swallowed nervously as she noticed Evie and Jane walking towards her.

"What's wrong?" Warrick asked as Aelish did not move from her spot.

Aelish made a reply with a movement of her eyes, bringing Warrick to peek at Evie and Jane.

"Look who I met here!" Evie greeted Aelish with a fake, friendly smile. "Long time no see, Aelish!"

Warrick frowned. "Aren't you going to greet me, Mom?"

"Mom? You have to be of high status to call me Mom!"

Jane laughed softly. "Warrick, you're shameless. Did you come here to steal? You're a disgrace to the Rauveron family!"

When Rauveron's name came out of Jane's mouth, everyone's attention returned to Warrick. At first, they had no idea about the shabby man who entered the luxury jewelry store.

He turned out to be Warrick Rauveron, the weak young master in the rumors.

"I'd better ask the security guard to throw you out before you steal," Jane was about to leave, but Warrick held her hand. She winced in pain from Warrick's firm grip. "What are you doing? Let go of me!"

Warrick did not let go of Jane as she requested. "Let me make one thing clear, my dear sister-in-law. I didn't come here to steal," he declared firmly.

"So, you say you have money?"

"Yes, I do."

Jane forgot about the pain in her wrist and started laughing out loud. Despite her noise, no one moved to stop her as everyone was curious about Warrick Rauveron.

"How ridiculous! I vividly remember the moment you begged my family for money to pay for Aelish's surgery. A loser like you can't possibly afford expensive jewelry!"

Aelish's heart throbbed with pain at Jane's words. A year ago, she had gotten into an accident that crushed her leg. She needed surgery, and that was how Warrick begged the Chafort family.

Actually, Aelish could accept it if Evie and Jane hated her. They must have been upset that she was the daughter of a mistress. Therefore, they continued to insult her relentlessly after her mother died when she was still a teenager.

But Warrick had once said that it was not Aelish's fault if she was born to a mistress.

"Stop talking," Aelish finally said something. She released Warrick's grip from Jane's wrist. "Let's get out of here!"

Warrick wanted to refuse as a system notification popped up.

[Lios and Lias want you to avenge your in-laws.]

[You receive a new quest: Retaliate for the insults you receive by shaming them!

Reward: 300 System Points and 200 Skill Tokens.

Punishment: Cool down of the 'Hands of Torment' ability for one day].

Warrick's gaze lit up with pleasure at the system screen. Even without a mission, he was intent on avenging Evie and Jane's disdain.

"We're not going anywhere, Aelish."

Evie raised one eyebrow at Warrick's nonsensical words. "You don't seem to understand what Jane has said. We're going to call security to evict you. There's no point in you being here if you won't buy anything."

"Thanks for your concern, but I have money to buy things here," Warrick retorted, his expression serious.

The annoyed Jane shouted, "If you have money, prove it! Don't just spew nonsense!"

Without saying anything, Warrick pulled out his black card. Everyone was stunned to see it. But Evie and Jane burst out laughing.

"Mom, your son-in-law is fantastic!" Jane felt her stomach hurt from laughing so much. "He must have gone crazy because the Rauveron family disowned him. And now he's fantasizing about having a black card!"

Aelish did not know how to respond to this situation, as she was also shocked by Warrick's actions.

Meanwhile, Evie was insulting Warrick again. "Emerald Bank only invites certain people to keep the black card and you're definitely not one of them. You're a scammer. Do you want to go to jail for forging a black card?"

People could not help but feel interested in what happened next. From any standpoint, Warrick had no chance of winning. No one would believe he had a black card.

Nonetheless, Warrick did not seem the least bit nervous. Instead, he said confidently, "How about we check the authenticity of this black card? That way, you can find out if I'm a fraudster, as you accuse me to be."
