Chapter 3. Vague Requests

The lawyer promptly agreed to fulfill Dennis's request. "Oh, that. Sure, I will grant your wish."

Dennis continued, "Since my leg injury, it seems like there are no friendly people in this country anymore. Can you cover my surgery expenses so I can stand tall again in front of those who always look at me cynically?"

"Absolutely!" the old man replied promptly.

A week later, Dennis recovered from the leg surgery he had undergone.

Confidently, he drove into the Vanguard Fire Club grounds in a sleek black sedan. He intentionally parked next to Cory's car, which appeared to have just arrived for practice.

Dennis rolled down his car window and faced the vehicle carrying his former friend and his wife's lover.

"Who's that?" Cleo asked, astonished as the luxury car pulled up beside her.

The model scrutinized the man in the car. "Dennis?"

Both of Cleo's eyebrows shot up simultaneously, still uncertain if the handsome and affluent man she saw was her ex-husband whom she had divorced so bitterly just a week ago.

Cory had not noticed who Cleo was staring at and remarked, "Judging by the license plate, it seems to be the new club president."

Dennis opened the car door and stepped into the club, which held many painful memories in his life.

Accompanying Dennis was a female personal assistant who appeared to adjust the black suit Dennis was wearing before he confidently strode into the stadium.

"Damn, that's Dennis," Cleo exclaimed with a frightened expression. "You mentioned that's the new club president's car!"

In a condescending tone, Cory remarked while patting Dennis's shoulder, "Really? How can a disabled man like him become the club president?" He then grabbed his training bag before entering the stadium.

Dennis, who purposely walked slowly to wait for Cory, turned to his friend. His gaze was piercing as he observed Cory approaching, the star of Vanguard Fire.

Still unaware of Dennis's true identity, Cory once again taunted Dennis, "Oh, Dennis. What brings you here? Pretending to be wealthy?" Cory chuckled.

"What did you say?" Dennis, who had been clenching his fists, was prepared to retaliate against Cory's cheek, a blow he had been holding back since earlier, when he stumbled upon this unpleasant situation.

While patting Dennis's shoulder, Cory remarked, "You couldn't possibly afford to be in this position, Dennis. Stop daydreaming and wake up."

Slap!

Dennis's hand met its target with force, landing squarely on Cory's right cheek. Dennis warned, "Be careful with your words! The person I used to be is not who I am now. Your career fate is now in my hands, so watch what you say!"

"Ouch!" Cory cried out loudly, while Cleo, standing beside him, could only watch silently, observing her ex-husband's actions.

Turning to the team coach who was approaching, Dennis instructed, "Keep an eye on them, if they dare to disrespect me, bench them until the end of the league."

"Y-yes!"

Dennis then walked with his chest puffed into the heritage club of his father, who had abandoned him, staring at each face of the people who had bullied him in the past. He promised to make everyone in this club regret if they repeated unpleasant actions against him.

One team member spoke as his knees began to tremble, remembering what happened when the handsome young man began to get injured, "Oh my God! So he is Dennis, the one we mercilessly bullied?"

Another player responded with deep guilt. "If that's true, we're in danger. We were a bad team to him, he might have come to take revenge."

Cleo snorted, then leaned her red lips close to Cory's ear. "I know he's weak, but he's not stupid, Cory. He can do anything when he reaches his deepest disappointment."

Cleo's words made Cory's hair stand on end, but of course, this tall man with a plethora of achievements on the green field didn't want to appear weak in front of Cleo. "You relax, he won't be that cruel when he retaliates against us."

As Cleo and Cory began to feel scared, Dennis entered his office and then sat in the president's chair. He was so delighted with the position he was in right now; Dennis's eyes were teary.

He truly never expected to be in this place, even though he never dared to dream of this day before.

A young woman with shoulder-length hair approached Dennis. Her face was so gentle, and she had rosy cheeks, a white shirt, and a black pencil skirt, making her look professional. "Sir, my name is Romaria Tuner. I am your assistant during your term. You can give me any order, not limited to club matters only."

Dennis nodded slowly, recalling his memories. He tried to plan who would be the target of his revenge now. "So you can help me find evidence of my wife's affair? I mean, my ex-wife."

Romaria smiled faintly and raised her eyebrows. "I can, Sir. Anything. Give me time to do it."

Dennis responded, his sweet smile turning sour as he remembered the CCTV cameras installed a few weeks ago. Initially, he installed surveillance cameras because of the unsafe environment around Dennis's residence, but now the object has become Dennis's tool for revenge. "Here's the password for the surveillance device. Write it down and transfer it to a flash drive so you can spread it."

Romaria nodded in agreement with Dennis's first task. "Alright, I'll copy the recordings you need."
