“Daddy! Emma!” Ava jumped in joy and ran towards Leonardo as soon as she set eyes on him.
“My princess.” Leonardo crocheted low and caught Ava in a hug and laughed wholeheartedly as he did so. He ruffled her hair lightly and played with her cheeks.
“Hey, beautiful one.” Emma leaned lower too and opened her hands towards Ava for her own hug. Disentangling herself from Leonardo, Ava hugged Emma too.
“I've missed you, Emma.” She whispered into Emma's neck and the latter chuckled lightly.
“Why? It's only been a week.”
“A week is too long, Emma. Daddy cannot make hot cross buns as good as you can. And mommy doesn't even know how to cook. She cannot carry an egg to save her life.”
“Really?” Emma laughed again and Ava nodded her head in response, while laughing too. “Alright then. Once we get home, I'll make you some hot cross buns and bake some cookies too. Would you like that?”
“Yay! I would love that!” Ava hugged Emma again in gratitude and after their short hug, the trio headed back into the car.
Just as Leonardo made to start the car, his phone beeped with a text message and he opened the message box to see a text from Sophie, containing a list of stuff he should get from the grocery store from her.
“Let's make a stop at the grocery store.” Leonardo informed Emma, who was seated at the backseat with Ava. “Sophie wants me to get her some groceries. After that, I'll drive to the florist to get her some flowers.”
“Aww. How nice of you.” Emma chuckled lightly and there was adoration written in her eyes. “Aren't you the sweetest husband ever?”
Leonardo only smiled half heartedly in response. He felt he wasn't a good husband enough. No matter how much he tried his best, he could never be a good husband for Sophie.
He has no money, no job, and no properties and he depended on her for a lot of things. Sophie was right about him. He was the most incapable, worthless excuse of a husband to ever exist.
A few minutes later, Leonardo arrived at the grocery store and searched all over for the items on the list that Sophie had sent him but he couldn't find any of them.
After searching for a while, he gave up and drove next to the florist’s shop where he got a mixed bouquet of red roses, lilies and tulips.
He smiled at himself as he paid for the flowers with the last cash he had left. Even though he was penniless, he felt a deep sense of self satisfaction. Sophie would be happy to receive these.
Soon, Leonardo drove back home with Emma and Ava. As soon as they arrived, the trio alighted from the car and walked back inside the house.
Emma led Ava to her room and Leonardo hurried upstairs with a look of excitement on his face as he clutched the bouquet dearly to his hand.
He couldn't wait to see the look on Sophie's face when she received the flowers. Flowers were her thing and they would definitely soothe the anger she felt towards him.
But as soon as Leonardo's hand felt for the doorknob of their bedroom and tried to twist it open, his ears flooded with strange sounds that caused him to freeze to his feet. He brought his ears closer to the door and he could hear the sound clearer this time.
“Ah. Yes. Ah. Dip it in. You are so hot.”
The sound of Sophie's soft moans caused Leonardo's face to turn crimson white, and as though it had been drained of all colors.
His brain fell into denial and he couldn't bring himself to believe what he was clearly hearing. Or maybe she was using a pleasure toy and he was just misunderstanding things.
But curiosity got the better of him and Leonardo gently twisted the door knob and he carefully pushed the door open, before stepping in.
The sight before caused his entire world to crumble right before his eyes. It wasn't a pleasure toy that Sophie was moaning to. It was another man. Leonardo's best friend and former boss, Kevin.
At first, the duo did not take notice of Leonardo's presence, until he staggered from the inability to get a grip of himself anymore, crashing his back against the dresser and causing a noise.
As soon as Sophie's eyes met with his, she whispered something to Kevin and he turned his head to look at Leonardo too.
As if he had seen a ghost, he threw himself off of Sophie's naked body and covered himself with a blanket. Sophie did the same. But unlike Kevin who had fear in his eyes, Sophie's eyes bore no remorse.
“What are you doing here? I thought I asked you to get me some groceries from the grocery store? Why are you back so early?”
Leonardo shook visibly. He could never, ever, bring himself to believe that she could go as far as cheating on him with his best friend.
Kevin was not only Leonardo's former boss but he was also Sophie's boss at the same company he and Sophie used to work before he got fired. How could they do this to him?
“I warned you about knocking on the door before you come in. Now, see what you've caused for yourself.” She sighed and shook her head at him in pity.
“Kevin, you bastard!” Overcome by rage, Leonardo plunged himself at Kevin with so much speed and dived a blow across his face, causing him to fall on the floor.
“Leonardo! Stop it!” Sophie screamed at him but Leonardo wouldn't have it. He continued to crash his fist against Kevin's face, over and over again. His only wish was to see Kevin dead.
“You dare to sleep with my wife? On my matrimonial bed? Have you no shame?!” Leonardo yelled at Kevin as he beat him up and Sophie pushed him off before Kevin could pass out.
As soon as Kevin saw that Leonardo had been pulled away from him, he regained his strength and dashed for Leonardo, returning the blows to his face.
This time, Sophie did not make any attempts to save Leonardo. Instead, she stared down at him as if he was the most despicable person she had ever met.
“You poor, pathetic, street urchin!” Kevin spat at Leonardo's face as he hit him mercilessly. “How dare you hit me with those filthy hands of yours? Did you forget who helped you from the streets?! You don't deserve your wife, you asshole.”
By now, Leonardo's face had deep bruises and cuts. He looked like he was almost losing consciousness.
“I’d thought implicating and getting you fired from your job would give me full access to your wife, but no. You keep showing up all the damn time. Want to know for how long I've been screwing your wife?” Kevin laughed evilly. “Four months, you fool!”
Leonardo felt his ears wheeze as Kevin exposed the truth to him. And when Kevin added his next words, Leonardo felt like he had been shot with an invincible gun.
“And you know the best part? She is pregnant with my baby. She is two months gone.”
Four months ago, when Leonardo used to work at Kevin's company as a chauffeur, he had crashed the car of one of the company's board of directors when he was tasked with driving the man back to his hotel. As expected, the man had burst into fury and demanded that Leonardo fix his car but Leonardo knew he would never be able to raise the huge amount needed to fix the car. He was barely making ends meet with his meager pay. His pay was so little that he was certain he would have to save up all his salaries for an entire year before he would be able to fix the car. Left with no other options, the company had to fire Leonardo as a way of taking responsibility for his action. But even after Leonardo was fired from the company, he was certain of one thing. The car crash wasn't an accident. Someone had tampered with the car and orchestrated the accident to implicate him. But because he had no evidence whatsoever, he couldn't speak up about it and was forced to swallow his suspicions. But
As the dark jeep drove through the driveway of a huge mansion, Leonardo was struck with awe at the sheer size and grandeur of the mansion. There were several cars parked out front, including a Lamborghini, a Rolls Royce and a Porsche. It was clear that this home of immense wealth and luxury was owned by no ordinary man but a multi millionaire. As Leonardo, the dark suited men and the woman alighted from the car, they were joined by a young lady who walked out of the mansion towards them. Her long strawberry blonde hair was curled and flipped to a shoulder and she was wearing an ankle length, silk dress. She had a beautiful smile on her face as she kept her eyes on Leonardo and unexpectedly wrapped her arms around him in a hug. Leonardo's body stiffened and his eyes darted from left to right, in his confused state. The young lady disentangled herself from him again, the smile on her face never unwavering even for a second. “Long time no see, lost brother.”A look of confusion fli
As soon as Leonardo returned back home, he headed straight for the bedroom. Once he reached the door of the bedroom, he pushed it open to see Sophie all dressed and reapplying her makeup, as if nothing ever transpired between them only a moment ago. When she turned her head to face him, Leonardo felt his stomach turn in disgust at her sight. She repelled him so much that he could throw up and he wondered how a woman could be this evil and dark hearted. It irked him to think that he had been married to this woman for five whole years and had endured all her mistreatments, all because of a love that was never there to begin with.“Knock before opening the door. How many times do I have to correct you?” She sighed in frustration and rolled her eyes at him. But Leonardo wasn't here for any of her drama. He was here for something else.“The divorce papers.” He spoke. “Where are the divorce papers?”Fine lines of wrinkles crossed Sophie's face at his question.“And what about them?”“Wher
The next day, Leonardo and Estella drove to the company in a dark BMW car. Once the car stopped, Leonardo felt a strong sense of nostalgia as his eyes took in the sight of the sleek and modern grandiose of the building. The memories of the time he used to come here with his parents filled his head and now, fifteen years later, he still appreciated the contemporary architecture of the company and the air of luxury and sophistication it exhibited. “Seems like you still remember what the company looks like.” Estella smiled at him, impressively. “A little.” He answered while clapping his hands together feeling a little odd from his dressing. “Are you sure about this?” Estella asked him, gesturing to his choice of clothes. At the same time, one of the security guards opened the car door, and Estella and Leonardo exited the car.“Yes, I prefer it this way for a start. You know,” Leonardo insisted on wearing casual clothes on the first day of resumption. He even noticed the disapproving
The security guards bowed to them as they walked into the company building. As they stepped into the large and vast entrance, they were greeted by the staff while they also whispered in awe behind their backs. “Oh my goodness, it's Jayden Romano.” “I thought he was dead.” “He grew up to be so good looking. Goodness!” “Where has he been all these years? I heard he went missing.” “There is a board meeting currently ongoing. We are late.” Estella informed Leonardo and they took the elevator to the top floor, where the meeting was being held. “Are you nervous?” She asked him as they disembarked from the elevator and walked down the hallway. “I mean, it's going to be your first board meeting. It's okay to be nervous.” “Surprisingly, I am not.” He replied to her. “I look forward to the board meeting.” As soon as they set foot into the board meeting, the once lively room suddenly fell silent for a few seconds and everyone in the room eyed Leonardo curiously. “Good day, ladies and
As Leonardo waited patiently in his car, parked in front of Ava's school, he glanced at his wristwatch again. He had been waiting for almost an hour but it was all worth it. He had been a little worried that Sophie might come to pick her up before he did and that was why he had arrived an hour earlier to fetch her himself. Even though it had only been a day, he had missed Ava dearly and couldn't wait to see her and hug her.Just then, he saw the sight of Emma and Ava walking out of the school premises. Leonardo's eyes gleamed with life again and he quickly exited his car and walked over to them. Ava's eyes sparkled upon seeing him and she ran to him, while he picked her up into his arms in a hug. “Dad!”“My princess.” He laughed and pecked her on the head. Then, he stared adorably at her face. She was the cutest thing that he had ever set eyes on and her bright face always made him forget his bad days whenever he looked at them.“Where did you go, daddy? I haven't seen you since ye
Once they were inside the house, Sophie led Leonardo up the staircase and into her room. She shut the door carefully behind them. “What do you want to talk about?” Leonardo asked, glancing at his wristwatch out of habit. He didn't want to be here. The memories of the last time he was in this room, prickled his skin and only made him angry. This was the same room where he was humiliated by a wife he thought was in love with him and a best friend he thought was loyal. “Are you in a hurry?” She batted her long lashes at him and a small flirty smile played on her lips. Leonardo looked away, ignoring her flirtatious acts and keeping his cold looks on. If she thought he was stupid enough to fall for her tricks, then she was dumb. He was no longer the weak and foolish Leonardo that she used to know. “Listen, Sophie. I am not here for long talks. I only agreed to come in and have a conversation with you because you begged me to. I have somewhere really important to be at.” “Somewher
The Next Day, Leonardo arrives at work before seven a.m. and some of the workers were busy pinching each other when they saw him. They didn't expect that he'd resume so early. After all, Antonio doesn't resume until nine a.m and sometimes depending on his mood, he doesn't resume until ten p.m.When he arrived, he met only the janitors and a few members of staff present. They were staring at him as if they had seen a ghost and he immediately understood what was going on. They weren't used to seeing the CEO resume early.A chorus of good morning filled the air and he waved at them in response. Not wanting to have any interaction with anyone at the moment. He entered the elevator and stopped at the tenth floor where his office was located. He checks his wrist watch at intervals and monitors the driver if he had taken Ava to school. He leafs through the accounts delivered the previous day and they seemed great. Sales were closed, goods were purchased. In all, they had a favorable day. H
