CHAPTER NINE

Shane squeezed his eyes in fear, afraid that the guard might really do that to him. Seeing the scene at hand, the manager came to his rescue.

"At least, as the manager of this bank, you wouldn't skin me alive for trying to perform my duties. I must check whether he's really a robber or not!!"

It was Max's turn to speak now. "You'll be sued for slander if you should confirm at the end of the day that he's really not a robber. I'll make you regret accusing the young master falsely, are you still bent on doing it?"

The manager cowered in fear, weighing the options. The customers started murmuring. Some of them were encouraging him, while some of them held their breath, watching what would happen next.

Suddenly, someone said. "He's not part of us. I could swear I'd never seen this man in my life. I only said he was part of us because I was too scared and I didn't want to continue being slapped by this man, here." He pointed to the manager.

It was one of the robbers and the manager Immediately knew he was done for. Now, only God knew what these guys were going to do to him!

"Alright, now I would have to sue you for slander. I'll send someone to serve you the papers. See you in court very soon!" Max said to him in a stern voice.

The manager flew into a rage as fear jabbed at him. He couldn't just be sued without justifying himself. He lost his cool and another thought that could redeem him flashed across his mind. He laughed sarcastically, scoffing afterward. "You sure got the balls. Well, I would also sue your young master, or whatever you call him, for fabricating a green premium card!" He declared flatly.

Max just stared at him, then his hand flew to his mouth trying to muffle his laughter. "And why would you even think it's a fake card?" He glanced at the cashier. "You! Bring us the card verification machine!"

Jake's heart jumped to his throat as he heard that. What if the card was really fake? He didn't even know the man who gave him. What if the man wanted to purposely implicate him? But then he heard, "Sir, it's really the real one."

The cashier was staring at the card, her hands shaking as she immediately regretted being hostile towards Jake earlier. Had she known, she would have even treated him well and now she would have him as her friend.

The manager didn't want to believe that, so he snatched the machine from her and inserted the card multiple times, still the real one. Fear engulfed him and his hands shook slightly as he turned to face Jake.

Everyone present was stunned into stupor. The man before them must be a trillionaire and surely he has more money than all of them combined together.

"Are you even sure he knows how much he has?" They whispered among themselves.

"But why does he have to dress in such a cheap outfit?" They wondered.

Shane on the other hand, refused to believe that the card belonged to Jake. How could a penniless butt-licker have such a card? "The card does not belong to him. He must have stolen it. I know him so well. This is my ex-wife here. She feeds and clothes him, so how would he possess such a card!?"

He looked at Madison to back up his claim, and to Jake's disappointment, she nodded. "Jake, how did you manage to steal my grandfather's card?" Her voice echoed round about, throwing the bank into an uproar.
