Chapter 8

The woman had a surprise look on her face as she heard what the old man said.

"Grandpa, I don't understand! How can this thug here be the miracle doctor you told me about?" The woman asked, standing up.

Gerald was mad at her for calling him a thug but he decided to control his anger out of respect to the old man.

"With all due respect sir, I do not appreciate your granddaughter calling me a thug! It's an insult to my person." Gerald complained.

"Oh please cut the crap!" The woman shouted at Gerald. "You are not just a thug, but a pervert also!"

Gerald became angry. He could not understand why the woman kept insisting that he was a pervert when everything was just a mistake.

He regretted his good intentions to help her.

He would have just allowed her to fall down and maybe then she would not have been insulting him right now.

The old man saw that things were beginning to escalate between Gerald and his granddaughter. So he decided to stop the matter from escalating.

"Grace." He said to his granddaughter.

"Please sit down and hear me out. I don't know what happened between you and Gerald, but this approach you are taking is not the right one."

Grace was furious and she was not ready to listen.

She was still angry with the fact that Gerald was insisting on coming right that it did not have anything to do with touching her when she saw what he did.

She stood up and was about to leave, but then she remembered that her grandfather had told her that Gerald was the only person that could save him.

Grace sat down but she was still angry. She turned to look at her grandfather after giving Gerald a death stare.

"Grandfather, we have all the resources. I can mobilize every doctor you need and they'll come to your rescue and heal you. We don't really need this sham of a doctor and besides, we don't know him. We don't know how true his work is and if it will have any side effect on you." She said.

Gerald scoffed at her as he heard her doubting his ability, but he also refused to dignify her insult by replying her. Instead, he turned away and waited for the old man to reply.

In his mind, whatever the old man was going to say would determine his next move, if it would help him or if it would work in ways.

Though he needed the money, but he was not ready to be insulted over something that he knows he did not do wrong.

"Grandfather, I understand that you really want to get well and you want to get healed. But I don't think you will believe all these people that call themselves miracle doctors. You never know whatever they use in their treatment. Why don't we take you to a more better hospital where you will be treated professionally and legally?" Grace continued talking.

Gerald knew that Grace was referring to him and he could not take the insult anymore. So he stood up to leave.

"You can go and meet a more reliable doctor that will treat you, because I don't think I will be able to do it with your granddaughter doubting my medical skills," Gerald said to Mr. Wellington.

"No, please, Gerald. Don't go. I really need your medical skills. Please, don't mind my granddaughter. She's just trying to be caring, and she's being careful because a lot of doctors have come, and I've been scammed. She does not want the same thing to repeat itself," The old man pleaded with Gerald.

Gerald was not ready to listen. He was already at his wits end, and he could not take the insult anymore.

"My problem is not with you, Mr. Wellington." Gerald said.

The old man did not want to let Gerald go because he knew that this was his last chance at getting him to heal him. So he quickly went to Gerald and held him.

"Please don't go. I believe in you and that's all that matters. Look, I already have all the herbs that you asked me to bring," The old man said.

He brought the herbs before Gerald. Gerald was shocked at the speed with which the old man used to assemble the herbs.

The herbs were not easy to find, and yet the old man in a short time had already gotten them.

"How did you get the helps assembled in such a short time?" Gerald asked the old man.

The old man smiled at Gerald.

"It's because of the herbs business I am into. That's why I was able to get them." The old man explained.

Grace looks at Gerald in a mocking way.

"I don't think you even know how to use these herbs. “This is the method you used in collecting money from people and deceiving them.” Grace accused him.

Gerald refused to answer Grace and just ignored her. He picked up the herbs and told the old man to wait here while he went to the kitchen to prepare the herbal medicine.

A few minutes later, he returned with a bowl of foul-smelling black soup.

"Drink it."

Grace tried to stop her grandpa but he drank the soup in one gulp. As soon as he put the bowl down, he coughed up a mouthful of black phlegm and said he hadn't breathed so easily in a long time.

Seeing that her grandfather was finally feeling better, Grace's dislike of him eased somewhat.

"The herbal soup should be taken once a day for 30 days, after which I would inform you of the next stage of the medicine." Gerald said.

"How should I thank you this time?" the old man said.

"Can you also help me find some herbs? " Gerald quietly told the old man the names of the herbs he needed.

"These herbs you asked are very precious and it will take me some time, but I will definitely help you find them.” the old man said。

Gerald nodde his head.

"Gerald, there is another main reason why I invited you.”
