Chapter 9

Gerald was surprised that the old man had another reason for calling him. So he sat down.

"What is it, Mr. Wellington? Gerald asked the old man

Grace also wondered what her grandfather had said. As far as she knew, her grandfather had only told her that he had found a doctor who could cure him.

Mr. Wellington looked at Gerald and then at Grace.

"I called you here because I wish  you could marry my granddaughter, Grace." The old man said.

Gerald and Grace were both surprised. Gerald wondered why the old man would want him to marry his granddaughter while Grace was also surprised at why her grandfather would want her to marry a stranger.

Gerald was thinking if the old man did not trust him enough to heal him, and wanted to use his granddaughter as leverage, because if he get married to a member of his family, he would have no choice but to treat him well.

Gerald knew that he was not ready to remarry again, not after the recent betrayal he just experienced from his ex-wife, Fiona.

But he knew that the old man would be able to help him to get the herbs he needed to treat his mother, so he could not reject it outrightly.

"All right, Mr. Wellington, I understand what you are saying, but I think your daughter and I need time to get to know ourselves, since we already started on the wrong foot," Gerald said.

Grace became uncomfortable with Gerald's response.

She had expected Gerald to jump at the opportunity so that she could reject him, but he did not. Instead, it was the one who rejected her.

It was something she was not used to because men were dying after her, so she thought that she was the one that could reject everybody and nobody could reject her.

Seeing Jaya rejecting her made her feel uncomfortable and she was not happy about it.

"Alright, I understand what you mean, Gerald," Mr. Wellington said.

Then he turned to look at his granddaughter.

"Grace, I need you to make a position for Gerald in the company, so the both of you can have an understanding of each other through work. You work together and I believe that you both can get to know yourself better and stop this enmity between you both." He said to Grace.

Grace wanted to disagree, but she dared not go against her grandfather. Instead, she nodded her head.

"Yes, grandfather, I will do as you have said."

Add something to show Grace's reluctance and anger in this situation.

Then, Mr. Wellington turned to Gerald.

"Gerald, I need you to visit Yola Company tomorrow. He instructed.

Meanwhile, at the entrance to the hotel lobby, Fiona and Ivan with her mother entered the hotel.

Ivan told Fiona that he had made a reservation in the hotel six months ago due to the influence of his father and now they could dine there.

"Congratulations, Ivan! Your family has received the status that you could make a reservation in the Metro Hotel. This is great news!" Fiona congratulated Evan on his family's status.

"Thank you and don't forget that I'll do anything for you," Ivan promised Fiona.

They were very happy and decided to take their orders.

"I think this is a good place to celebrate my break-up from that useless Gerald who almost ruined my life," Fiona said.

They took wine and ordered some food and began to eat. Ivan opened the wine at some point and poured it into a cup.

"Let's make a toast," He said to Fiona and her mother. And they each took their cup.

"What should we toast to?" Fiona's mother asked.

"Toast to my freedom from the ex convict and a new relationship or a new beginning with Ivan." She smiled.

They were all happy and they made a toast and drank the wine in happiness while continuing their celebration in mockery of Gerald.

As Fiona was celebrating, she received a phone call. It was from her secretary. She picked the call.

"Hello, how are things going? She asked the secretary.

"Ma, things are not going well." The secretary said.

Fiona became instantly tensed.

"What could be the problem?" She asked her secretary.

"The negotiation we made with the Yola company yesterday failed. We could not get them to agree to partner with us." The secretary dropped the news.

Fiona became sad and angry. She ended the call instantly.

Her mother and Ivan noticed the change in her attitude and they became worried.

"What is wrong, my dear?" Her mother asked.

"What was the call about that could make you change your mood?" Her mother inquired.

"What is it my dear? Why are you sad? What was the message on the call you received? What was it about?" Ivan asked

"My company, my secretary just called me that the negotiation went had with Yola company did not work out and we need their partnership to grow my company." Fiona was sad.

Ivan looked at her and smiled.

"Is that the only problem?" He asked still smiling.

Fiona became more angry.

"How can you be smilling at a situation like this? Does it look like what calls for a celebration?" She asked.

"You don't have to get worked up, my dear. I have a friend at Yola company, and when I talk to him, he'll be able to help you for your negotiations to come through. You don't have to be sad." Ivan assured her.

"Really?" Fiona said, surprised,

"Yes, we can go there tomorrow and we sort everything out at once. You don't have to worry, I'm here for you." Ivan continued to reassure her.

Her mother smiled and held her hand.

"My dear, you are very lucky. You have chosen the right man. Thank God you were wise enough to let go of that loser Gerald when you met Ivan. If not, I wonder how he would have helped you in this situation right now." Her mother said to her.

"I know right, mom. I'm very smart. You don't expect me to stay with that loser. When there's somebody better like Ivan beside me." She said,

Ivan was happy with the praises that were heaped on him by Fiona and her mother.

He became more resolute to help them so he could get in their good books.
