Chapter 71

The woman hesitated, then turned and led Dax to a small alcove at the back of the cellar. There, hidden away from view, was a single bottle of wine. It was covered in dust, and the label was faded and nearly illegible.

"What is it?" Dax asked.

"It's a bottle of 18th century Burgundy," the woman said, her voice hushed. "It's been in our family for generations, and it's never been opened."

Dax looked at the bottle, intrigued. "How much is it worth?" he asked. The woman smiled.

"It's priceless," the woman said. "It's not for sale." Dax smiled. "I'm not interested in buying it," he said. "I'm interested in drinking it."

The woman looked at him, shocked. "Are you insane?" she asked. "That wine is over two hundred years old! It could be poisonous."

Dax just shrugged. "Only one way to find out," he said.

The woman hesitated, then sighed. "I can't let you drink that wine," she said. "It's a family heirloom." Dax cocked his head.
