Chapter 7: Lorenzo Angelo

Clare's head was lowered and she sighed a couple of times to relieve her sorrow when suddenly, Bianca's attitude alarmed her.

Bianca clapped her hands, and chuckled darkly. It seemed like the news Clare had just given didn't even make her flinch.

"You're happy?" Clare squinted her eyes, and furrowed her brows in confusion. When did her sister turn into a monster?

"Of course! This is what you always wanted. Now, he's finally out of our hair. I'm really happy about it."

Bianca laughed again, Clare was shocked as to how the rest of her families joined her sister to rejoice over their ‘EX’ son-in-law's death.

"I think we should even celebrate what happened. The celebration is on me. We can have a party, and a toast."

Her jaw dropped, and she planted her eyes on Bianca who was still blabbing.

"Yes. This calls for a celebration. You're right!"

Her mother, Rosa exclaimed.

Clare watched how they sounded inhumane towards him, and when she could no longer bare it, she walked out on them with an angry look on her face.

Meanwhile, somewhere in the city there the convoys of car pulled up by the gate of a massive mansion.

One of the men on black identified with the gatekeeper who instantly let them through.

Fleet of cars came into the compound In an arranged manner, and he gulped. The massive mansion wasn't like the one he bought for his wife Bianca. It was much bigger, and he feared who might have carried him.

The car suddenly stopped, and the driver stepped down to help him out of the car, while the bodyguard helped him seat on his wheelchair.

His heart thumped, and he swallowed and sweat formed on his forehead, that was until he saw someone that looked like him, only older.

His brows knitted, and he widened his eyes to understand what was going on. He couldn't help but worry. However, it seemed everyone here was happy to see him, especially the man who had a striking resemblance with him.

The man made slow steps, and Lorenzo gulped as he wondered what he was doing here. He didn't know why the man resembled him, but he could recognise who the man was.

Who wouldn't!

He smiled when he saw the man who was closer to him, and to show his respect, he stood up from his wheelchair slowly, earning a gasp from everyone.

“I thought he couldn’t walk?” One of the guard’s whispered to the other guard

“It’s none of your business, don’t get us in trouble” the other guard whispered back.

Lorenzo stretched out his hands for a handshake, but was shocked when the man pulled him in for a hug.

He widened his eyes, but then he enjoyed the hug. This was the first time he was treated like a human in a long while. The only person who made him feel this way was Clare.

"My son."

He was shocked about what the man said, and he itches his head.

"I know you must be confused." The voice that spoked belonged to Leonard the man who hugged him from the beginning.

Leonard had introduced himself to Lorenzo during the journey to the mansion.

"Don't just stand there, let's go in. You must be famished. You'll take a shower, and then you'll have dinner.''

Lorenzo couldn't process what was happening, but he was sure they were mistaken for someone else.

The man who had called him son was Luca, and Luca was one of the biggest businessmen in Italy. He ranked number one in Italy, and in the world, he ranked second.

Owning companies, and estates worth trillions.

Lorenzo gasped as he walked side by side with Luca, and Leonardo who seemed to be happy with him.

There was many explanation needed for him to understand what he was doing, but then there was no way he could get it now until they were ready to speak.

The lady servants bowed with smiles on their faces, and it made Lorenzo feel weird.

"They'll assist you to your room."

Lorenzo nodded, and followed them deeper into the building.

Everything about the house was magnificent, and his eyes darted around as he followed the lady who soon stopped.

"I hope you love it," she said as she opened the door with a smile on her face.

Lorenzo was almost speechless when he saw the room. His eyes widened, and he walked in with the servant now behind him.

"Everything you need is already here. If you need anything else, ring a bell."

He smiled, and quickly nodded.

The servant excused herself, and in a matter of minutes, he went in to take a bath.

The water trailled down his body as he tried to understand the very confusing situation. However, since he was determined he would make sure to hear them out.

He dried up his body, and put on the clothes that were brought in before he left the room.

He walked down the stairs in thought. However, the aroma coming from the dinning made his stomach grumble.

"We've been waiting. Come." They gestured to him with a smile.

The words of Luca came to his ears, and he immediately did as he was told.

The different delicacies placed on the table caught his attention, but he wanted to find out the truth.

"Why aren't you eating?" They asked him with raised brows when they noticed he was staring blankly into space.

He turned to their direction."I want to know the truth."

He stared at the men who took turns to look at each other before turning to him.

“It's a long story, but I'm ready to tell it.”

"You're my son, and I've been searching for you, everywhere." He sounded sad, and it seemed like he struggled to tell his story.

The words didn't just make sense to Lorenzo, and he attempted to stand up when Leonardo held him back.

"Don't mind my brother. The true deal started about twenty six years ago."

He turned to his brother who nodded with a sigh leaving his lips.

"Twenty five years ago, I met the love of my life, and on the twenty sixth year after our wedding, she came with the best news any husband would love to hear. She told me she was pregnant."

"I was so happy, and I took care of her like any husband would until the time of your birth."

Lorenzo was confused. "What do you mean?"

He asked the man whose head was now lowered.

That was true. If he was their missing son, was his mother not supposed to rush out to him, and how did he end up being lost?

"How did you lose me? Where's my mother? That is, if I am your real missing son."

There was silence between the men for some seconds before Luca turned to him.

"Your mother, she died."

His heart thumped. Even when it wasn't supposed to concern him, they ended up being up feeling it was too much.

"I took her to the hospital that day with worry on my mind. That was the first baby we were to have, and she assured me with a smile she would be fine despite the pain. The nurses refused me being in the labour ward, and I paced back, and forth with my heart thudding loudly in my chest."

He sighed again. "Within a matter of seconds, my cloth was soaked, and Leonardo was the only one there to comfort me."

Lorenzo darted his eyes between the two men in front of him. He never knew that it would end up being like this.

"So?"

He asked, still not convinced about it.

"Your mother was known as Gracia Luca Angelo. She was my wife, and the moment the nurse came to announce she was dead, I hated myself."

Another silence erupted, but it bothered him so much.

"Then what about me? How did I gets missing?"

Luca finally raised his head to look at his son.

"I was so devastated about your mother's death I kept a nurse incharge of you when I learnt of your mother's death."

His heart thumped. "And?"

"Something happened, and you were switched. I didn't know it because I didn't see you before, but you were switched at birth with another baby." Sadly cases like that has been coming up lately, According to a study done by the University of Florence, the rate of child switching in Italy is about 0.025 per 1,000 live births. This means that out of every 100 births, there is about one case of child switching. Lorenzo could see how broken this man was. He noticed it,but still had one more question.

"How did you figure out that child wasn't yours?"

"The nurse."

He fisted his hands. "She came to confess. She confess to the crime. She agreed being paid by someone who she couldn't disclose, she was paid a huge sum of money to switch the baby. She said it wasn't her fault. She was in need of money, so she took you to a trash can and dumbed you there. However, when she came back, you were nowhere to be found someone had taken you away."

All Luca said made sense to him, and he could only run his hands through his hair. He didn't know how he could believe this man. It seemed like the truth, but Lorenzo still had doubts about him.

"I don't know if I can trust you."
