The Appraisal Summit [I]

The people watching the excitement around were all talking, mocking Gwendolyn.

Listening to the voices of the people around her, Gwendolyn was very agitated, her face flushed with embarrassment, but she still pretended to be calm and spoke calmly. "May I have your name?"

"My name is Irving." Irving smiled lightly, then asked. "Isn't it time for you to give me the money, Ms Gwendolyn?

Gwendolyn was so angry that she trembled all over, threw the notes directly in Irving's face, turned around and wanted to leave this embarrassing place quickly. But the old man next to her stopped her. The boy in front of her was a talented person. His ability to identify treasures was so strong that he would one day shine.

"My little friend, this is my business card. If you have anything to do in the future, come to me anytime. The young lady is young and energetic. Please forgive her." Old man Zachary gave Irving a small rectangular card. "Looking at your appearance, you must have just graduated, right? Our Griffiths family owns a large treasure appraisal company. If you don't mind it, you can temporarily take up the position of assistant manager. How about that?"

The old man's move was obviously to form a good relationship with Irving. He took a fancy to Irving's ability, so he naturally extended an olive branch.

Irving wanted to refuse, but when he thought about it, he naturally agreed. He had indeed heard of the Griffiths family.

The following day, Irving reported to the company early in the morning. As soon as he entered the company's door, he found that other colleagues looked at him differently.

Was it envy, or jealousy? He had no idea. But compared to Irving, they were also old people. Irving parachuting directly over them and climbing the position ladder above them, was the source of their enviable stares. Although they didn’t know what Irving’s background was, how could someone who was new in the appraisal business be above them?

"You are the new assistant manager? You're here just in time. The manager, Mr Garner is upstairs. Go quickly."

The speaker was Laura, who was wiping the glass of the counter. Under her direction, Irving arrived at the manager's office.

Mr. Garner couldn't help being a little surprised when he saw Irving appear before him. "You're here so early?

"I take my work serious, Mr Garner."

"The person recommended by Mr. Griffiths is really one of the best among people." Garner smiled.

"It's just a minor thing. Its not worth mentioning." Irving quickly said. But Irving had always believed that diligence could make up for weakness, and the early bird caught the fattest worms. If he really slacked off, even if he became an assistant manager, he would be pulled down by Yasmine. So, he had no time to be complacent.

"Just right!" With that said, Garner picked up the phone. "Yasmine, you can book three air tickets now, right? Splendid."

Three? Irving was a little confused.

"Stop standing there. There is an appraisal summit happening in the city of Las Vegas. Naturally, we at Hudson Jewelry cannot miss it." After hanging up the phone, Garner stood up and tidied the desktop. "I just want to take this opportunity to take you two newcomers to learn more about the business of appraising."

Going to Las Vegas? Irving was currently located in New York, and had never been to Las Vegas before. But now, due to an appraisal summit, he was going to California. The treasure industry was indeed beyond common greatness.

"Just you, me, and Yasmine?" Irving asked tentatively. He was lucky enough to become the assistant manager, but he was afraid Yasmine wouldn't like him. She was suppose to be the assistant manager, but now, she would remain in her previous position.

"This shouldn't be a problem, right? You both come from the same school, so there won't be any problem getting along." Garner said with a smile. "Moreover, you're an assistant manager now. So you have to see how things works for yourself."

Irving was helpless, but he didn't show it. In his view, the problem was huge. To get to Las Vegas, flying wws the fastest. It was Irving’s first time to fly, so it wasn’t too much of a joke. His family was poor before, so how could he have been able to fly before?

Fortunately, Yasmine had no intention of mocking Irving for never seeing the world before. In this way, Irving breathed a sigh of relief. It would be really embarrassing if anyone saw this, especially Yasmine.

When they arrived at the city of Las Vegas, they were naturally picked up by a representative of the Griffiths Group of Companies Headquarters.

"Hello, Mr. Garner, good to see you again."  The man greeted Mr. Garner with a firm handshake.

"Thank you, Mr. Wayne." Mr. Garner replied appreciatively.

"Hello Miss Yasmine"

"Hello Mr. Wayne."

"And you're?"

"Irving."

"Welcome Mr. Irving."

"Thank you, Mr. Wayne."

"Mr. Wayne,  I heard you're now the assistant managerat the Headquarters. Congratulations."

"Thank you, Mr. Garner." Wayne replied smilingly.  By the look of things, he was a  capable hands in the industry. "Please come with me here. A special car will take you to the exhibition."

"Mr. Wayne, please, I'll be needing your assistance in the next few days. I want the two with me to see more of how things move in the business." Garner walked up with a smile.

"No problem, although it only takes three days, I'll try my best." Mr. Wayne responded with a smile.

Parked on the roadside of the airport was a black stretch sedan. It had the logo of Hudson Jewelry on it.

Irving couldn't help but take a second look at Mr. Wayne. He wss worthy of being the assistant manager of Griffiths headquarters. Judging from his status, he had already caught up with the peak of being a manager. But come to think of it, one was a regional manager and the other was just a small branch manager. There was still a huge gap between them.

"The driver will take you to the exhibition center. Other colleagues of yours will be there as you already know. I'll see you soon." Mr. Wayne introduced the exhibition in detail, and left.

It took less than fifteen minutes to drive from the airport to the exhibition location. Obviously, it could be seen that the location of this place was more prosperous than any place he had seen.

This was located in the Venetian resort, a large commercial shopping mall in Las Vegas. For this exhibition, the organizer also specially cooperated with all jewelry stores to serve as booths for this exhibition.

As for the items on display, in addition to diamonds, gold and other jewelry, there were also various types of gemstones, all with finished touches. Their prices ranging from hundreds of thousands to tens of millions. Without any doubt, this could be described as quite luxurious.

Hudson Jewelry had an emerald and jade necklace worth 20 million dollar on display. It was as big as a pigeon egg. If this were placed outside, people would recognize it as a fake at a glance. But it was different inside. How could any item that appeared here be fake?

Irving lowered his head and thought, then touched it unconsciously.

He was relatively familiar with gold, silver and diamonds.

When he was a sales intern before, he sold the same kind of products.

But when it came to jade, he really knew nothing about it. He realized that he must make up for his shortcomings in this area. Now that he was an assistant manager. If he wss questioned by others when he went out in the future, he would not only embarrass himself, but the company that hired him.

Yasmine's eyes had noticed Irving anxiety, and her red lips were slightly raised in a smile. She saw early on that Irving was taking a plane for the first time, but she didn't reveal it. In her eyes, this kind of thing was nothing. But now, she won't be merciful.

"By the way, Mr Irving, I wonder how much you know about jade?" Yasmine asked with a smile. "You might as well tell me about it, so that I can learn from you with an open mind."

Irving was slightly startled when he heard this. He even thought that Yasmine had let him go. But he didn't expect that Yasmine would actually want to make things difficult for him in his professional field!

Hudson Jewelry was in this business. If one don’t even understand jade, if word spread out about it, it would only make others laugh, and tarnish one's reputation.

Mr. Wayne was also stunned. He had always believed that Mr. Garner's assistant would be Yasmine. After all, in terms of temperament and behavior, Yasmine was more elegant and calmer in front of him. Only recently, did he discovered that Irving was the assistant manager. He could tell at a glance that Irving was extremely nervous now. Didt this assistant manager come in through the back door?

"If it's a diamond, I can tell you..." Irving clenched his fist nervously, his fingertips turning white.

Diamonds were also considered jewelry materials, and most sellers sell more diamonds. Irving naturally knew something about it, but in the eyes of people in the industry, these were nothing at all.

After hearing Irving's answer, Mr. Wayne smiled. A new person wss a new person after all.

But Yasmine, looking at his posture, must have been exposed to the jewelry industry before. "Okay, is there anything else you don't understand?"

"Why don't we ask Mr. Wayne to explain it to us, so that we can take the opportunity to learn more." Irving's words directly threw the ball in Mr. Wayne's court.

If Yasmine wanted to continue to make trouble, it would be with Mr. Wayne.

Coupled with the word "learn" at the end, Irving's attitude was already humble enough and his posture was low. Others wouldn't find it offensive either.

"The rough stone exhibition area is over there, we can go there and take a look." Mr. Wayne pointed in another direction and said.

"Rough stone? Like stone gambling?" Irving asked in surprised. It was all about knowing your stones. It took skills and luck. The assessor would pick a stone, from many on display, that he believed had gem or other treasure inside and buy it for the given price. The price could range from few hundreds to thousands of dollar. If there's nothing inside the stone bought, the money was lost for good.

Irving had watched a documentary on stone gambling to know a few things about it. The act could be traced back to China, but now, it was all over America, and the world. People placed millions of dollar on stone gambling every now and then.

"No, the rough stone exhibition not only includes gambling stones, but also other stones, including jadeite stones." Mr. Wayne shook his head. "But since you have mentioned it, let's go to the Stone Gambling Area first."

Gambling on stones? Irving also wanted to try his psychic ability. Would it work? He had no idea

But since he had to touch the gambling stones, maybe it would work. If it worked, then he would have no worries about food and clothing for the rest of his life. His mother's health would also be covered. Same with her sister's expenses.

After passing through the jewelry exhibition area, Irving followed everyone to the other side. This place was completely different from where they were coming from. There were rocks everywhere, mixed with the smell of earth.

"Since you know so much, Mr. Irving, how about going up and betting a piece?" Yasmine suddenly spoke and looked at Irving with a smile.

Irving frowned slightly. This Yasmine's smile was not a friendly gesture.

Mr. Garner looked on and shook his head secretly. It seemed that Irving really didn't know much about these things. Life as appraisal would be really difficult for him.
