Everyone present in the event centre stared at this man who just walked in. No one knew his name or even saw his face on the papers except Arthur, of course.
He stomped over to Luthan and grabbed his shirt. “What are you doing here? Are you trying to embarrass me here? How did you even get in?” Arthur demanded. Luthan merely stared coldly at him while his guards tore Arthur away from him. Lionel Carter was displeased with the distraction. His guard rolled him in his wheelchair to the centre of the room. “That's enough!” He stated. This is my birthday, and you don't get to act however you please. Young man, who are you?” Kimberly stepped forward. “Father, he just sent twenty million dollars to our family account as a birthday gift to you,” She announced. Gasps erupted from the halls. “That is simply ridiculous!” Lionel exclaimed but Kimberly showed him the alert on her phone. The guests mumbled amongst themselves. Who was this man that could decide to just give out twenty million dollars like it was chicken change? “And I can give out more if you like,” Luthan stated. “I just need to see someone.” Lionel has never felt more humble in his entire life. “That can't be right,” Arthur argued. “I know this man. This is my criminal brother, who got convicted of murder and rape! He was kicked out of the family years ago. There is simply no way he could have given you twenty million dollars. He has nothing!” “Is that so?” Lionel shot Luthan the same look Kimberly had given him earlier. “I do not need such pathetic people at my event, then.” “What makes you think I am here to attend your event?” Luthan shut him up instantly. “Stop talking nonsense. The Carters are one of the three most influential families in the state. Everyone would kill for an invite to this event! Isn't that why you were busy arguing with the bouncer, you hypocrite?!” Kimberly said arrogantly. “I am here for Mary Lynn. Name your price and hand her over. I will leave without a fuss,” Luthan demanded. “Mary Lynn? Seriously? Isn't that the very woman you assaulted? How useless can you be?” Camille hissed and murmurs followed. Luthan's fists clenched hard. He was trying his best to keep his temper at bay. He would eventually deal with the Kings in his free time; after all, they had only taken a worthless amount of money from him, yet they kept forcing his hand. Provoking him. “I do not know anyone by that name. Now get out of here before I order security to throw you out!” Lionel barked. “You heard my grandfather, get lost!” David Carter, the first son of the family, finally stepped in. Although he was first, he owned only twenty per cent of the family wealth. “Thirty million dollars to hand over Mary Lynn,” Luthan said suddenly. “He is bluffing! There is simply no way he could just blow another thirty million dollars after just spending twenty million to get in,” Arthur huffed. His words sounded reasonable enough and triggered the audience to mock Luthan's audacity. “He must be really shameless and desperate to feel among.” “What do you expect from a rapist and murderer?” “Even if he even sent the twenty million, another thirty would make him immediately bankrupt.” “He is so desperate to be accepted that he's willing to tell such outrageous lies!” “Security! Throw this useless man out of here!” David called. Luthan signalled his guards to wire more money since they were dumb enough to think a few million bothered him. Every member of the Carter family received an alert. The shock on their faces when they saw the thirty million dollars he sent to them. A newfound respect, fear and awe settled on their faces. Who was this man? Why wasn't he on the news? If Arthur was right and he was indeed a criminal, how did he end up with so much money? Lionel, unwilling to embarrass himself any further, signalled his guards to fetch Mary. “You can't, father! That was my gift to you!” Alexander, the second son of the Carter family complained. Worse, he couldn't even order an arrest against Luthan. It seemed like he was swimming in money. As Mary was brought in, Luthan found himself staggering back. His fists clenched immediately, his blood boiling to the point where he might just explode. The woman before him wasn't the same Mary he met years ago. While her skin was just as milky and flawless as the last time he saw her, her face, however, was thoroughly disfigured. “What have you done to her?!” Luthan thundered and the temperature in the room dropped by fifty degrees. “Luthan? Is that really you?” Mary's pitiful but hopeful voice made his heart ache. Had he taken too long to come back? She couldn't even see him anymore because her eyes were sealed off with skin. Was it a fire? An accident? An attack? Luthan hurriedly grabbed her as she threw her hands around, searching for him, but the Carter family blocked him off, still determined to humiliate him. “You wanted to see her, there she is! If you want to take her away, you will have to pay double the initial amount!” Lionel's greed shone right through his eyes. Everyone was certain Luthan wouldn't be able to afford it.Luthan's eyes burned with rage as he glared at the greedy man before him. “Father, don't you think it is a rather high amount? Our guest here is possibly bankrupt already. There is no way he could buy her off,” Kimberly spoke up and the audience laughed.“I suggest you leave, Luthan, before you embarrass yourself. We must, however, thank you for being stupid enough to blow off all your wealth in pursuit of recognition. We don't need a murderer and rapist amongst us. This event is for nibbles and…”“Shut your mouth!” Luthan fired and everyone was taken aback. The power in those words left them dumbfounded and unable to speak. “I will send you your miserable net worth now!” Signally at the guard who held his phone, everyone watched in awe as eighty million dollars was wired to the Carter family. The shock on their faces meant nothing to Luthan as he walked over to Mary and showed Alexander out of his way. There was just one thought running through everyone's mind as they stared in a
Camille and Arthur remained in the car staring at the exquisite hotel. It was a five-star hotel. The most expensive in the city. “Do you think he is lodging here?” Camille asked Arthur. “He hasn't been outside in almost an hour. They won't let him stay that long if he was walking around,” Arthur retorted.Camille stared at the hotel once again, a puzzled expression settling on her face. “Where do you think he got so much money from? He just threw the Carters’ networth in their faces without even blinking…” Camile trailed off. Arthur opened the car and got out. “Definitely not by any clean means. The last time we saw me, he was on the streets, wearing nothing but rags. We took everything from him, and even then, he didn't even have up to thirty million dollars,” he said as Camille joined. “We will go in there and confront him. He's hiding something big and if he won't say it, we'll let the police force the truth out of him then.”They walked into the building and Camille was immed
Luthan sat in the hotel lobby, eyeing his unwanted visitor warily. Camille sipped her coffee, throwing him casual smiles.“I didn't come here to watch you drink. Get to the point and leave,” Luthan said candidly, but she remained unfazed by his words. “How have you been, Luthan?” She asked instead. His eyes narrowed at her.“My well-being is not the reason you're here, Camille. Cut the chase or I will be forced to leave you,” Luthan coldly stated. “You are still as impatient as ever my dear, Luthan,” she smiled. “What is wrong with checking up on my ex-husband, huh? Can I even say that? Last time I checked, we were still legally married.” Luthan was flabbergasted by the boldness. First, she connived with his family to take over his properties and slept with his brother, even had children for him, and now, she was here, reminding him that they were still legally bound. “I suppose you're here for a divorce then. I'll have my lawyers prepare the papers and send them over to you,” Lut
After his tour with Raven, Luthan decided to visit one more person before returning to the hotel. When a Royce drove into his compound, Barry simply assumed it was a business associate who didn't know the boundaries of work. None of his relatives could afford a Royce. Barry leaned over the balcony, waiting for the visitor to step out. About three minutes passed before the car door opened Barry saw the one person he never believed he would see ever again. Luthan King. What in heaven's name was the man doing in his house? Three years had passed since their last encounter but this Luthan looked nothing like the man back then. Still, there was no way he could afford a Royce. Was it possible he was showing off another man's car? The Luthan he knew was straightforward. He didn't pretend to elevate himself before others. Either way, the man had no business in his compound.“Stop there!” He yelled from the balcony and Luthan stopped, lifting his head to look at Barry. “What business do y
Camille signed and retrieved the brown envelopes from the delivery man. She was curious as to what it was and decided to pry just a little. We were family, after all; surely they wouldn't mind just a little. She picked up the first one and opened it. “Divorce Agreement,” Camille read with a scoff. “The bastard was serious with this whole divorce thing. I will just have to meet Barry to discuss this later. Maybe there is some loophole we can exploit. I don't plan to watch him spend all that lottery money alone.”She put the document back in the envelope. She picked the second one and headed upstairs. Arthur was nowhere to be found which was a good thing. She quickly buried the document underneath the rug.Camille wasn’t ready to deal with it yet. She proceeded to open the next document, and her features paled out when she saw it was from the bank. She didn't want to believe it, so she flipped through page by page, reading as fast as she could. Apparently, Anthony Kings had used the m
It was not surprising that what happened at the Grandeur Hotels made the news. People were calling Luthan The Mysterious Multi-millionaire and there were speculations. Soon enough a photo began to circulate among blogs, it was the vaguest and most blurry picture of him at the hotel and you couldn't really identify him from the pictures but many of the people who attended the Carter’s party were easily convinced that it was Luthan. His name was soon flying about doubtfully but he didn't mind at all. He was fine with simply taking care of Mary Lynn while plans were being made for her surgery. Although he didn't mind, someone else was using the rumors to their advantage.Anthony realized early that they could use Luthan's new and sudden fame to draw in investors. Afterall, Luthan still had the last name King. There were a few people in the business circle who had heard of what happened at the Carter party but we're not there themselves. They may not have been as rich as the others who we
The case was won easily. It helped that Hector had completely distabilized Barry by that first visit and by appearing in multiple places where Barry visited while he gathered evidence for the case. It got to a point that Barry had to beg Hector to try and find a way out of it. He pleaded that he would do anything for the case to be dropped but his suffering and desperation only made Hector happy.Hector told him that Luthan had only one intention; to make Barry pay for his crimes and nothing the lawyer could say or do would override that plan. When Barry turned to the King family they abandoned him, they threatened him to keep their name out of his mouth if he wanted to stay alive for much longer. He pleaded again with Hector Williams for immunity, he promised to tell all that he knew about the Kings if Hector would help him out but Hector didn't promise him anything especially when it became clear that he didn't have enough dirt on the Kings. They were being careful with him because
As soon as Luthan was told this news he rushed to the room where the man was staying. He stood at the bed side, tears prickling his eyes as the man smiled. His body was frail and weak-looking like he might simply wither away in the wind the next second.“Didn't anyone ever tell you not to look at sick people like that?” Stanley said still smiling. “Try to look happy to see me will you?”Luthan shook himself and drew closer. “How did this happen?”“It's a disease,” the man said. “Those things happen. You can't protect me from everything Luthan,” the man whispered. “Can you do me some good and not look at me as though you're already at my funeral.”Luthan forced a smile and Stanley's grew wider. “Now will you introduce the lovely lady by your side?”“This is Mary Lynn,” Luthan introduced. “The lady I told you about.”“You didn't mention she was this pretty,” Stanley teased. “I feel stronger just looking at her.”Mary Lynn smiled and drew closer to his bed. Stanley took her hand and drew
