Chapter 26

"It's because I wanted to eat with you" he said.

Lily blinked her eyes. What is he talking about? She is talking about what he did to Bella and he is trying to change the topic? "What nonsense are you talking about? You. . . you should not have done that to Bella! What if she gets in trouble because of you?!" Lily asked. She was trying hard to change the topic but Nelson was not buying it.

"I did it because I wanted to eat you. You won't even look at me. I felt like that the only way to get you at least look at me was to target her. See it worked! We had a meal together and you even held my hand!" Nelson said. You could tell that he was very happy.

Lily felt like facepalming herself. How can he be so happy? His brother is here and he is already causing problems for him, isn't he worried at all? How can he make jokes right now?

"How can you still be in the mood to joke around? Your brother is here, aren't you worried at all about what he is going to do to you?" Lily asked. She was so scared for him and he is acting as if he doesn't care at all.

When Lily mentioned that, Nelson expression's went stiff. Of course he could see what Lander was trying to do, but he did not care. It's not as if he will be able to change anything if he cared. He won't be able to fight against Lander. He won't win anyway. Besides, he did not care about those things. He just wanted to be left alone. That is not too much to ask right? His expression was only stiff for a few seconds. His playful smile was back on his face.

"Lander? I don't care about him. So what if he came here because of me? It's not as if I will be able to do anything to him. Besides, he did not say anything wrong. I am the illegitimate child" Nelson said. He already accepted his fate. He is supposed to live his life without caring about anything. Maybe this way, Lander and his mother will understand that he doesn't want anything from them and they will finally learn to leave him alone.

Lily sighed. How great would it be to be like Nelson? To not care about anything. But she was not like him. She really did care. She cared a lot. Her father, he told her, she was his only hope now. It was as if her life has already been scripted out for her.

But still, it wasn't Nelson's fault that he is the illegitimate child! His father was the one who did something wrong and had an affair outside his marriage, why do they all have to act as if Nelson has done something wrong? He did not do anything wrong!

"But still, it's not your fault! If Lander wants to blame anyone, he should be blaming his father. Why does he have to pick on you all the time? You did not do anything wrong!" Lily said. Her life wasn't perfect, she had her own problems too, but she could not help feeling sorry for Nelson. Looking at him, she could not help but feel shocked by the tears gathering in her eyes.

Nelson was smiling even more brightly. He did not care about anyone else. As long as Lily cared about him, it was enough for him.

"You, you are really worried about me right? Is that it? You are worried right?" Nelson asked her.

Lily sighed. Clearly this conversation was not going anywhere. She decided to just leave. "You know what? you can do whatever you want! I won't get involved anymore!" Lily said. She really had been too impulsive just now. Everyone must be talking about her right now. Did she really have to over react like this?

Lily turned to walk away but Nelson held her hand. "Why are you just leaving? Answer my question. You really do care about me right? You just don't want to admit it" Nelson said. As long as Lily cared, it should be enough for him.

Lily rolled her eyes. "Let go of me! Don't make things anymore difficult than they already are" Lily said.

"Make things difficult? I didn't complain when you held my hand in front of everyone right now. Can you just promise me that you won't ignore me like before anymore?" Nelson asked.

Lily rolled her eyes. When it comes to being shameless, she still has not met anyone who could beat Nelson. "Just let go me first" she tried to negotiate with him.

"No, stop ignoring me like this" Nelson said. He really did not care about anyone else, but he knew that it was not the same for Lily.

"You. . let go. . . "

"Lily!" Lily was going to add something else when she heard someone call her name from behind. She turned and saw Bella staring at her and Nelson. Lily removed her hand from Nelson's grip at once.

Bella was going back to her room when she saw Lily and Nelson talking. She was surprised. He was even holding her hand. Are the both of them that close?

"Lily, are you close with this person?" Bella asked. Of course she did not like Nelson! Ever since she got here all he has been doing was embarrass her!

"No, we are not close at all! Let's go Bella" Lily said. She was trying to avoid suspicion but Bella was not buying it at all. She felt like something was going on here.

"What do you mean by no? Of course I am very close with Bella. Bye new student. See you around" Nelson said in a sing song voice then he walked past the two girls.

"What was that Lily? He was clearly holding your hand right now. What is going on?" Bella asked Lily.

"Nothing is going on. Just ignore that person" Lily said.

Rachel was lying on her bed in her room . Her roommates were not in the room. It was all good for her anyway. She did not want to be disturbed right now. She had a lot to think about. Just what was she thinking? Why did she ask Mike if he was still in love with her? Those things did not matter anymore. Two years ago, she already made her choice and she chose Nelson. He is the one who will be able to help her in the future. And besides, she had a lot of time to make him hers. Why does she need to keep going back to those things?

But still in the end, she was still hoping that maybe she and Mike could go back to being friends. They do not have to be this distant from each other. She felt like Nelson's and Mike's problem happened because of her. She too, did not know what really happened between the both of them. She just found out that they had fallen out with each other. It was around that time too, so she just assumed that it happened because of her.

But Mike said today that it has nothing to do with her. Is he telling the truth? Or does he not want to admit it? Mike has never lied to her before so there was a big chance that she really did not have anything to do with it, so what really happened between the both of them? She was still thinking about these things when her phone rang.

Rachel looked at the caller ID. It was her mother. Rachel's felt her heart sink when she saw her mother's name on her screen. She was her mother, but why is she so scared of this woman?

She answered the call. "Hello, mom" Rachel said. Her voice was timid, really timid. It was different from her usual imposing tone.

"Rachel, have you met Nelson yet? You remember what we talked about before you left right? You can't make any mistakes" Esther said. .

Rachel gulped. As usual, her mother was only concerned about the benefits that she could get from her. She did not care about her daughter at all, she only cared about the things that she could get from her.

But Rachel could not complain either. She has been raised like this her whole life. It was always about benefits, what you can get from the other person.

"Yes Mom, I already met him. Don't worry. I won't forget what we talked about. I have to do this for the sake of the company. I won't forget it" Rachel answered. She felt that she always had to be on her mother's side, or her life won't be so easy. Anyway is her life even easy right now?

"Alright. You can't make any mistakes right now Rachel. I've lived the past ten years for the day when I can step on all of those people! Anyway, it won't be hard for you to do anyway. You guys are still friends after all" Esther said.

They were still friends? Her mother has no idea what has happened in the past two years right? Well as someone who only cared about the things that she could get from other people, Rachel wasn't expecting her to know anyway.

"Of course. The three of us are friends anyway" Rachel lied.

When Esther heard that, she instantly knew who the third person was. She did not say anything for a full minute.

Rachel could hear her mother's cold breathing over the phone. She realized immediately that she has said something wrong. Even though she could not see her, Rachel could already imagine her mother's cold face staring at her.

"The three of you Rachel?! Two years ago, didn't you and that boy already end everything? Are you stupid? How can you make the same mistake twice?!" Esther yelled.

"I know Mom. I'm not making any mistakes. We already ended it, but it's not bad to be friends right? He can still be of use in the future" Rachel said. Since her mother only cared about benefits, she tried to buy her over with that.

But Esther was not buying it. Someone like Mike won't be of much help. With a step mother like Vanessa, what can he do? That woman is too cunning and someone like Mike won't be able to deal with her at all.

"I don't need anyone else. I just need you to remember that the only person that you need is Nelson. Don't forget that!" Esther warned Rachel.

"I know that mom. Besides, I told you. I like Nelson. I already like him. What's there to be worried about?" Rachel asked. Towards the end, she could not help raising her voice. She did not want to talk about these things with her mother at all.

"It's good as long as you know. Goodbye" her mother said and ended the call.

Rachel was frustrated. Why does she have to live such a life? She really wanted to cry but she held back the tears. She must not be weak. If her mother taught her anything, it was the fact that she had to be strong at all times. A weak woman won't be able to do anything. She is just going to get used by people. Instead of being used, she had to be the one doing the using.

Rachel really wanted to vent. She picked up the lamp that was by her bee and threw it at the wall. It broke and shattered. Immediately she broke the lamp, the door opened and one of her roommates walked in. It was a girl called Jenna.

She saw the broken lamp and she knew at once that Rachel had broken it. She went over to Rachel immediately. "Are you okay Rachel?" The girl asked. She had been trying to suck up to Rachel for years now but she was always giving her a cold shoulder.

"I'm fine. Just leave me alone" Rachel yelled.

The girl shrugged and walked away from her.
