Chapter 4: Sometimes Gold don't Glitter

Freddy stared at an unconscious Mr. Delbrose and was a bit frightened. He wondered and pondered on if the powers would work.

“Can I have some time alone with him please?” He asked a bit tensed knowing fully well that the three were observing him carefully, unsure of his abilities as a doctor.

As sweat began to pour from his head little by little. “Why should we wait outside?” Dr. Dris asked, looking at both Sophia and Naomi trying to prove that Freddy was incompetent.

“Let's just do as he said, since he's asking politely.” Naomi said, trying to let Freddy work.

“Dr. Freddy, we really hope and trust that you can help heal my grandpa just like your grandpa could. Let's all leave.” Sophia said with a firm tone.

They all left but Dr. Dris left reluctantly. “You are making a big mistake.” He says silently before leaving.

Freddy stares at Mr Delbrose and tries one of the techniques which his grandfather taught him.

He took the palm of Mr Delbrose and tried to connect with his body and soul.

He took a deep breath and he suddenly realized that Mr Delbrose was lacking something in his body.

With his experience as a doctor and his new ability he was able to wake Delbros to consciousness.

Sophia and Naomi were so astonished that they informed Dr. Dris.

Dris was surprised by how fast the results had started to show. He then felt threatened and decided to come see for himself.

Getting there Dr. Dris was surprised that Mr. Delbrose had actually gained consciousness.

He then moved towards Mr. Delbrose to examine him. He saw that all his vitals were starting to pick up.

He then saw some tools Freddy was using and took them. He suspected that something was wrong but he just couldn't understand what it was.

He took a pair of medical practice instruments Freddy had been using and hid it, hoping that Freddy won't be able to continue without those tools and look incompetent.

He successfully carried them without anyone noticing. When Freddy returned the following week to check up on Mr. Delbrose. He realized his stethoscope, blood pressure counter and other instruments were missing.

“Have you seen my stethoscope?” He asked Sophia.

“No, didn't you take them with you?” She asked him back confused.

“No, I left them here.” He replied, pointing towards a drawer in Mr. Delbrose's room.

Sophia summoned Naomi to ask her if she had seen it but Naomi too hadn't. Freddy suspected someone took it but he didn't want to jump into conclusions.

“Ladies don't worry, I will carry on. I will still do the check up and give you a full report.” Freddy said confidently.

Sophia appreciated him and had confidence in him, so she let him carry on.

After two weeks Mr. Delbrose was now able to speak clearly. He asked Sophia to get Freddy and he wanted to speak to him.

Freddy walked in with some medication that Mr. Delbrose was to take.

“Not the medicines again.” He chuckled.

“Well, I’m afraid it is , sir. Remember you have to take these medicines if you want to stop talking about them.” Freddy replied jokingly.

Mr. Delbrose laughed, “you are just like him, your grandfather.” He added.

Freddy took a glass of water and gave it to him.

Mr. Delbrose signaled him to sit on his bed with him. Freddy did so.

“You inherited your grandfather’s gift didn't you?” He asked with a smile.

“Yes I did, but I am still trying to get used to it.” Freddy responded.

Mr.Delbrose smiled. “Honestly. I don't know how much time I have left. I cheated death before, now I am cheating death again.

The truth is I know that I don't have much time left but I still wanted to cheat death one more time.” He said in a calm voice as his smile began to fade.

“Why do you say so sir?” Freddy asked him knowing that part of what he is saying is true.

“Honestly I would have loved to die so that I don't trouble my granddaughters so much.

But I worry about who will take care of them when I'm gone.” He added. Freddy suddenly remembered his grandfather.

“Don't worry about death for now, you still have some time left. You've trained those two girls well and they would do anything for you.” Freddy replied.

“Freddy, what do you want to do with your life?” Mr. Delbrose asked him all of a sudden but before Freddy could reply he cut him off and said

“I know that whatever it is, you will be fine. Freddy, can I ask you for one thing?” He asked.

 “Yeah sure sir.” Freddy replied.

“Can you keep in touch afterwards?” He asked.

“I will sir. Keep taking care of yourself and have a nice day sir.” Freddy replied before leaving.

Freddy ran some tests on Mr Delbrose before saying he was ok to resume work but he advised him to work from home.

He also informed Sophia that Mr. Delbrose should always take his medication. Naomi was sad as Freddy began to say all these things because she knew it was time for him to go.

Freddy entered his room to pack his things because his job was now done. Sophia and Naomi entered his room whilst he was still packing.

“So where are you going from here?” Sophia asked.

“I don't know yet,” Freddy replied.

She then brought out an envelope and gave it to him.

The envelope contained a black card. Freddy took the envelope and asked what was in it and Sophia told him it was his pay. He refused but they insisted. They explained it to him.

He worked and deserved the pay, simple.

Freddy had no other choice than to accept as the two insisted.

At this point Freddy had already finished packing and was about to leave but Sophia stopped him.

“Wait Freddy one more thing. My gra

ndpa gave you this.” She said as she handed him a document. Freddy's jaw dropped when he saw what was inside.
