Chapter 3

In the Cadenn family, Mae had been the cruelest to Gilbert during those two years. Nothing was trivial in the army, and Gilbert's identity at the time was confidential. So, even the Cadenn family didn't know anything about Gilbert. In Mae's mind, Gilbert was just a soldier who wasn't worth the trouble. Gilbert sat next to the bed and looked at Mae nonchalantly.

"Mae, he has recovered. He hit me just now."

Dylan could barely stand it when a disabled person ran over him.

"That?"

Hearing that, Mae was surprised and turned to look at Gilbert. Sure enough, Gilbert didn't look like a fool then.

"How dare you hit Dylan? Do you know who he is?"

"Get out, get out of here now!"

Having said that, Mae was on the verge of forcibly pulling Gilbert away.

For!"

At that moment, there was a clear voice outside the door.

"Swoosh." The Cadenn family. Dylan stopped abruptly. Mae also froze and looked out the door.

The woman was tall and thin, dressed in a black professional outfit, with her black hair neatly gathered in a bun, exuding an air of nobility.

Her fair and tender face was flawless, featuring a delicate nose and small mouth, giving her an elegant and charming appearance. Despite meeting numerous people, Gilbert couldn't help but admire her beauty.

Azalea, a member of the Cadenn family, had recently become engaged to Gilbert. Upon seeing Azalea, a hint of greed flickered in Dylan's eyes, and he unconsciously licked his lips.

Azalea's presence commanded respect, and she appeared even more dignified as she frowned upon witnessing Dylan holding a sword against Gilbert.

"What are you doing?" Azalea interjected, positioning herself directly in front of Gilbert, her expression filled with anger. She failed to notice anything amiss with Gilbert.

"Azalea, you arrived just in time. This idiot attacked Dylan," Gilbert explained.

With one hand raised, Mae seemed to have found a savior.

Dylan withdrew the sword and said, "Azalea, Gilbert has recovered. He could have recovered long ago. However, he deliberately pretended to be stupid in order to deceive you.

He must have some ulterior motive. Maybe he's after you." Dylan snorted, but that didn't mean that Gilbert slapped him.

He was the eldest son of the Killian family. If news of Gilbert slapping him spread, others would laugh at him.

"He's engaged to me. We're supposed to live together. What's wrong with him chasing me? Also, what does this have to do with you? In my absence, I know you're bullying him again. Don't go too far."

Azalea appeared cold, but she stood in front of Gilbert.

"Azalea, I'm serious. He has already recovered. He is acting foolishly to deceive the Cadenn family."

"Yes, Azalea. Dylan is right. That's the truth. I can testify."

When she heard that, Azalea scowled slightly before turning her gaze toward Gilbert.

"Gilbert?" Azalea called him out.

"Huh? You—who are you?"

Gilbert sneered inwardly, feeling empty and foolish.

"Stop pretending," he muttered under his breath.

Dylan, visibly irritated, spoke up, "Enough. Please leave now!"

Azalea stepped forward abruptly, raising her voice. Observing Gilbert's feigned Azaleance, Mae and Dylan grew increasingly frustrated.

"This isn't over, Gilbert. Remember that?" Dylan issued a stern warning before departing with Mae.

Once they were gone, Azalea let out a soft sigh and turned to face Gilbert.

"I knew they wouldn't force you to sunbathe, so I took the day off," she said to herself before gently guiding Gilbert out onto the patio.

As she observed Gilbert's bewildered expression, Azalea sighed once more.

She kneeled beside him, placing her hand on his leg.

"My grandfather always praised you for being the best soldier and a national hero. You were a true warrior, defending our country with unmatched courage. For so long, I've thought of you as my idol. I was thrilled when we got engaged, but seeing you like this breaks my heart."

The sun bathed the courtyard in warmth.
