Throughout the night, Matthew made sure that he was checking up on Mike and soon it was morning.
Mike slowly opened his eyes and caught sight of Matthew in the same position he was in last night. "Child, you're awake," Matthew said, sounding tired. Knock! Knock! The knock caught their attention even before Mike could respond to his grandfather. The knock on the door shook Paul because it was still very early. He stood to check who it was. "Good morning, Doctor Bryan." He greeted After they exchanged greetings with the doctor, the Doctor moved closer to Mike and asked, "How are you feeling this morning?" He pointed a penlight into his eyes, checking for any injury or illness by seeing how his pupils responded to light. "I'm feeling much better, Dr," Mike responded, causing the Doctor to nod before checking Mike's head injury. He smiled warmly and turned to Matthew; “He'll be discharged today,” Dr. Bryan said before leaving the room. “I'm glad that you can finally come home to where you belong, son.” He informed causing Mike to smile faintly, "Thank you..." Mike growled as he stretched in bed. In a few minutes, Paul walked back into the room. He whispered into the old man's ear, "Child, we can leave now," He said and helped Mike up from the bed. They exited the hospital and walked outside to see a long black Lincoln limousine Paul stood by the door of the car and said, "Sir, the car is ready. " Mike turned to Matthew in awe and asked, "Is this a real Lincoln? " Matthew chuckled softly, amused by Mike's innocence, and responded, "The Duncan family only uses the best.” Mike got into the car with Matthew and examined the leather upholstery. The luxurious interior instantly fascinated him. "Do you like it?" Matthew suddenly asked, causing Mike to nod his head, smiling warmly "The car is yours now." He said. “What? It’s now mine?” Mike asked again to confirm; he couldn’t believe his ears. “Yes, son. Not only this, there's a lot more, across the country and abroad.” Matthew responded, causing Mike’s eyes to widen in amazement. This was a car he wouldn’t dream of entering and now, he owns it. “Woah!” He said with a smile on his face, he couldn’t hide his joy, and the old man was pleased to see the smile on Mike’s face “You should better start getting used to a luxurious lifestyle because you’ll soon be the heir of the Duncan family,” Matthew informed. “The heir of Duncan conglomerates?” He couldn't believe his ears. He has always heard about Duncan conglomerates and he knows that they are at the top on the rank of conglomerates in the continent. “Yes son and this car is just a very small part of your inheritance” He added causing Mike to instantly turn to face Matthew “What? You’re calling this small?” He asked surprised. “There’s more wealth that awaits you, child. This is just very small,” He nonchalantly replied. Mike chuckled softly, he couldn’t help but think that he was dreaming, “I hope this dream never ends.” He thought. The idea of this being reality was hard for him to digest. Still trying to take it all in, Paul said, “Young master, please go through these documents” Mike took the documents from him and as he went through them, Paul informed “The companies listed on the two documents are owned by your family,” Mike furrowed his brows before turning to face his grandfather, then he gazed down at the documents in his hand, confused. As he went through them, feeling dumbfounded, he gazed at the names of the companies he saw, they were all top-tier companies that everyone in the country and abroad knew of. As he flipped the pages, his eyes widened in shock when he saw a particular company on the list, “Double Tech, that’s the company I work for!” Mike exclaimed in shock. “Do you own all these companies grandpa?” Mike asked. He was stunned the moment he saw that the company he worked for was among the list of companies that his family owned. Matthew smiled mischievously and explained, “These companies are supposed to be inherited by your father but unfortunately, he died at an early age” Mike paused; this was the first time anyone had ever mentioned anything about his father; he dropped the papers on his thigh and asked, “What happened to my mom and dad? Why did I grow up in an orphanage? I don’t know anything about them.” His curiosity took the best of him, and he wanted his grandfather to answer his questions. “Hmm.” The old man sighed and sat up. “Your parents were in love and happy, son. They loved you dearly,” He said with his gaze on his hand “If they loved me then why did they abandon me? I’ve been suffering in the streets; I’ve been humiliated! And here is my family background. One of the top richest in the country.” Mike was in pain as he thought of how he was treated. Not only by his colleagues and people around him but also by his wife. “They didn’t abandon you, son.” Matthew let out a long sigh before saying, “23 years ago, when you were only 4 months old, your parents went on a trip...” He paused and shook his head, “It was supposed to be a joyful journey, but unfortunately, things turned out differently.” Mike noticed the way Matthew’s brows twitched as he explained what happened; it was obvious that it was a difficult story for the old man to tell. “I can still remember that day vividly like it was yesterday,” “What happened?” Mike inquired, getting impatient. “Your parents were involved in a terrible accident; I still strongly believe that it was orchestrated by one of our rival families.” He said and bent his head in grief. “Where was I? Did I go on the trip too?” Mike asked, “Yes, you went with them on that trip, but we searched and searched for your body on the scene and you were nowhere to be found. Ever since that day, I kept on searching, believing that you’ll still be alive” He responded and immediately raised his head to gaze at Mike, smiling warmly “If only you knew how it warms my heart to see you again. To know that you’re alive and I can finally take care of you,” He said with tears of joy welling up in his eyes. Mike took his grandfather’s hand and held him tightly, trying to comfort him. “I’m glad you found me too,” He said, causing the old man to grin. The car drove towards the gate of a villa. Mike was immediately memorized by it, “This is breathtaking. Is this my new home?” He couldn’t help but ask. “Yes, young master,” Paul responded. The Greek stylist building that seemed to reach up to the sky was unbelievably Mike’s new home. “And it’s just an outbuilding,” Paul added. After a series of advanced security checks at the gate of the villa. The driver finally drove into the exquisite compound. Mike opened his lips to speak but ended up grinning as he gawked at the outbuilding of the villa through the car’s window. The car stopped right in front of a mansion where two rows of people were standing in a uniform. They bowed deeply as they acknowledged their master’s presence. Mathew took a few steps forward and addressed his house staff. “For many years now, you all know that I have been in search of my grandson, but that search has ended today.” He said and gestured for Mike to come forward. Mike took a few steps forward before the old man continued. “We must merry, I have found my grandson! Mike Duncan, the heir to the Duncan family.” He introduced. The house staff instantly bowed deeply as they welcomed him “Welcome home, young master.” They said in unison. Mike didn’t know how to react, so he just kept calm. The old man led him through the opul
Mike exited the mansion with Paul. They got into the Lincoln limousine and drove out of the villa to Double Tech company. Feeling anxious and determined, Mike got out of the car and walked straight into the big building with Paul beside him. In the lobby, they stopped at the receptionist "What are you doing here, Mike? Mr. Timothy has ordered not to see you here again!" She said with a frown on her face.Mike opened his lips to speak, but she instantly brushed him off. "Hey! I know hungry people like you can beg or do anything to get their jobs back but come to think of it Mike, don't you think that it's your calling to be a beggar, after all, that's what you were before you started working here," She said, feeling superior to Mike because he was now fired."How dare you? Do you know who's standing before you?" Paul asked, causing the receptionist to burst out laughing."Of course I do. This is Mike scumbag, a nobody!" She said with a sly smile on her face."Young lady, you better
Elijah was disheartened by the news. “Once Mike resumes his job as CEO, you’ll work with him as his assistant,” Paul said, causing Elijah to sigh. “Okay,” He responded, not wanting his years of service here to go to waste.“When is your next board meeting?” Paul asked“In a few minutes, sir,” Elijah responded.“Okay, we’ll be going with you!” Paul said, causing Elijah to nod his head.In a few minutes, his secretary knocked on his door and walked in, informing him, “Sir, you have a meeting with the board members, right now” They left the office and moved to the meeting room. Everyone instantly stood up in acknowledgment of the CEO’s presence. Suddenly, Timothy, who also stood up with the others, exclaimed, “What the hell are you doing here? In the board meeting room? You must be joking!” Timothy said, causing Mike to smirk.“Is that one of the men that treated you unfairly?” Elijah asked, pointing at Timothy.“Yes,” Mike responded sternly.“Okay,” Elijah said before clearing his th
"You're more foolish than I thought. I wonder what lie you'll tell the police when they get here," Stella said after Williams dropped the call with the cops."You know, it's all your fault! No one would have involved the police if you had let us go without insisting that we compensate you," Williams said, trying to irritate Mike."Look how he's dressed in a torn shirt, riding in a mind-blowing Lincoln. You're dressed like a beggar that you are," Stella spat"What was it you said they call him again... Oh yes! Mike scumbag. You should be living in a shit hole," Williams added, expressing his disdain for him.Mike bit his lips, trying to hold his anger, but he couldn't. As he was about to react, the siren of the police car caught their attention. "It's time for you to face your judgment, Mike," Stella said "Let's see who faces judgment," Mike responded."Thank Goodness you're here, officer; that's the criminal over there; deal with him," Williams said, pointing to Mike in the car."He
“How pathetic! You think you could fool us?” Stella spat. “Do not mind him, he’s a loser,” Williams said. “You need to come with me to the station,” the police officer said, taking out a handcuff. Mike quickly left a voice mail for Paul before going with the officers. He was immediately taken to the interrogation room. “Criminal! Start talking!” The officer said in a rage, slamming his hand on the desk in front of Mike. “I don’t know what they’re talking about; that car belongs to me,” Mike said, trying to defend himself. “Stop lying to us; the insurance adjuster revealed that your name wasn’t registered as the owner,” the police officer said. “That’s because my grandfather gave the car to me as a gift,” Mike said, insisting that he didn’t steal the car. “Who’s your grandfather?” The police officer asked, arching his brows. Mike opened his mouth to speak but instantly paused, thinking that this might be a shame to his grandfather. Calling his name over such an unimportant mat
Mike got into the back seat of the car and dialed a number on his phone. "Hello?" A husky voice fell into his ear."Is it Mr. Martin on the line?" Mike asked sternly. "Yes, sir, and you are?" Martin asked."Mr. Martin, it's Mike Duncan on the phone. Can you kindly confirm the name registered on the Lincoln now?" Mike asked, causing Martin to respond."Okay, sir, in a minute, please." Martin clicked a few buttons on his laptop while his cell phone was in his ear."Sir, there have been some adjustments, and the name here is Mike Duncan," Martin confirmed, causing Mike to smile slyly."Okay. I want you to formally claim compensation on my behalf from Mr. Williams, the man who damaged the back of my car," Mike said, causing Martin to immediately respond,"Okay, sir, I'll do just that." Mike ended the call and placed his phone beside him in the car as Paul drove"Young master," Paul called, trying to grab his attention."Your grandfather has some urgent news for you," Paul informed, caus
They got down from the lift when suddenly the door of the conference room opened and the first thing that hit Mike's ear was the enthusiastic applause from the room.Amongst the men in the room was a tall olive-skinned man with the badge on his suit, "Andrew Lane, Esq." Mike immediately identified him to be the lawyer. The old man sat in the main chair and began to address the board members."I'm glad that y'all could make it here even with the short notice," the old man said and turned to gaze at the lawyer before turning to the man on his right. "I have been running Duncan conglomerate since I was 18, and until now, it has been smooth under my reign. For sixty years now, I have been preparing for this moment," He paused for emphasis,The room was pin-drop silent. Gazing at the expression on the board members' faces, the old man was sure that he had their full attention."As most of us know, this conglomerate was founded by my great-grandfather in 1920 and has passed down from fathe
"What is all this?" Mike asked in a rage as he turned to look around him. Seeing that Williams's men surrounded him with no way out was absurd.Letting out a long sigh, he said, "Williams, I promise that you'll regret this." Williams burst into laughter and said,"If you don't want these men to beat the daylights out of you, then you'll fall to your knees and beg me." "Beg you? Hell, no! Williams," Mike spat, causing Williams to chuckle dryly. He immediately threw his hand across Mike's face, but fortunately, Mike caught his hand. "Pay compensation for my car before you do anything, okay?" He said calmly, causing Williams to bite his lips in anger. He tried twisting his hand away from Mike's grip, but unfortunately, Mike's hold on his hand was stronger."You're so pathetic? Who let you out of that station, anyway? I thought you'd be in jail now," He said and tried pushing Mike back. Two men stepped forward and tried hitting Mike on his shoulder, but Mike squatted, and the punch hit W
