CHAPTER 2

Their battle had concluded in the early hours of the morning. Just before drifting into unconsciousness, Lyndsey whispered, "... I love you."

Morgan knew those words weren't directed at him, but hearing them made him happy. He responded with a whisper by Lyndsey's ear, "Yeah, I know."

He didn't immediately sleep but instead helped clean Lyndsey's body and gently placed her back in bed. He lay beside her carefully, ignoring her habit of cursing and swearing, when she slept, her face looked very soft and sweet.

Morgan reached out to touch her face, caressing it softly.

"Um... don't disturb me, Trav..." Lyndsey's sigh was heard as she brushed away the hand stroking her face, then returned to sleep after finding a comfortable position in his embrace.

Morgan felt angry, but his emotions quickly subsided once he felt Lyndsey's movements in his arms.

As a former soldier, he wasn't easily tempted by a woman, but Lyndsey was different. She wasn't just any woman who came and went quickly, she was a woman he liked and wanted to spend the rest of his life with.

With that thought, Morgan slowly fell asleep.

It felt like he had just closed his eyes and fallen asleep, but a blow soon woke him up accompanied by angry shouts.

"You jerk! How dare you take advantage of vulnerability!"

Morgan pushed aside the pillow that had struck his face. Another pillow flew, hitting his face and causing him to furrow his brow.

"I completely underestimated you!!" Lyndsey exclaimed again with hatred clearly visible on her face.

Their marriage wasn't based on love but rather coercion from her father. Unable to vent her anger at her father, Lyndsey could only lash out and insult Morgan. Not without reason, to her, he was just a tall and handsome man, devoid of any ability and without a decent job.

Lyndsey hated the fact that she was married to someone as useless as Morgan. Throughout their marriage, she never allowed him to touch her, not even a finger. Yet, last night...

Last night was a that mistake could only have happened because of Morgan!

Thinking about it fueled Lyndsey's anger even more. She pointed at Morgan, "You useless jerk, how dare you touch me, huh?!"

Seeing Lyndsey looking so frustrated, Morgan slowly rose to sit up, but he was immediately pushed down to the cold floor. Despite this, he showed no anger or complaint, calmly standing up.

His demeanor only fueled Lyndsey's rage. She wondered how he could remain so calm when she was at the peak of her fury?!

Lyndsey grabbed the pillow again and beat Morgan, who didn't move from his current position at all.

"You jerk! Useless! Why did you have to disrupt my life?! You ruined everything!!"

At first, Morgan allowed Lyndsey to beat him until she tired herself out, but hearing what she said, his own anger was ignited. Morgan caught both of Lyndsey's wrists, forcing her to look at him and said in a muffled voice, "Don't you remember? You're the one who forced me."

Of course, Lyndsey remembered, but she refused to admit it.

"I forced you? You took advantage of me when I lost control," Lyndsey said, glaring at the man in front of her. "Morgan, you're truly useless, only you could pull off such low tricks. Just like when you asked my father to force me to marry you!"

Morgan towered over her, looking down, but not being arrogant, truly restraining his aura in front of Lyndsey. This was unnoticed by the woman who despised him.

With a grim face, Morgan looked at her. Before he could say anything, Lyndsey spoke first.

"You can only pull off cheap tricks! So foolish! Pretending to be someone else and taking advantage."

"You're right," he replied, a mocking smile on his handsome face, then he added, "At least I married you, unlike your ex who left you because he was such a coward."

Mentioning her ex-boyfriend, her first love, was a boundary for Lyndsey. She didn't like anyone bringing it up, didn't like the reality of being left by someone she loved for silly reasons. She liked it even less when the one mentioning it was Morgan.

With both her hands held tightly by Morgan, Lyndsey used her foot to kick him.

"How dare you mention him with your filthy mouth!"

Morgan managed to dodge and released the woman's hands.

"Yeah, I'm filthy, but I'm better than the coward you loved! A coward who couldn't even face reality and chose to disappear, he'd rather leave you than deal with problems with you!"

Lyndsey shouted angrily, not wanting to hear those words.

"Why? Can't you even accept the fact that the man you loved is a coward?!"

"Shut up!! You have no right to say that!"

Lyndsey's chest heaved, she couldn't bear Morgan mocking her like this.

Seeing how Lyndsey reacted to his taunts, Morgan felt anger in his heart, but even more so, pain. He couldn't accept that Lyndsey still had feelings for that man, who had been gone for so long and left wounds.

His gaze darkened.

As Lyndsey was about to scold Morgan again, her phone rang. She wanted to ignore it, but the ringtone echoed again for the second time.

Angrily, she grabbed her phone and saw a familiar name on the screen, answering the call without much thought.

"What is it?" she asked once the call connected, irritation still present in her voice.

The secretary explained the purpose of her call.

"What? Mr. Torrent wants to meet me in person tonight?"

"Is this really the Mr. Torrent I know?"

Hearing her secretary's confirmation left Lyndsey stunned. Who was this Mr. Torrent? A very wealthy and successful businessman. Not only that, Mr. Torrent also had a very good family background.

Thinking about someone like that wanting to meet her was a once-in-a-lifetime stroke of luck.

The man was hundreds of times better than her useless husband.
