Chapter 7

The lady looked at him skeptically. Wondering if he could ever have the number of the COO of the company. She looked down on him and turned her lips down.

"Sir, I didn't know that you were here, I apologize for any inconvenience," the COO said.

Quincy didn't mince words. "I'm not going to wait here a second more," he replied impatiently.

The COO quickly backtracked, pleading with Quincy to hold on as he would be out shortly. Quincy ended the call, turning his attention to the receptionist.

The woman let out a mocking laugh. "Why are you trying to sound important by making a fake call?" she sneered.

Quincy didn't indulge her at all. He looked at her impatiently and then at the staircase that led up to the offices within. The lady was still taunting him, asking him how he could possibly have the COO's number.

"You think I'm playing tricks here?" Quincy asked coldly, unable to help himself. Her shrill voice was beginning to upset him even more. He couldn't hold in his anger at her disrespectful behavior.

"Of course, you are lying! And it's a pathetic lie for that matter!" She snapped at him, "As if the COO would ever meet with someone like you, you actually look like a beggar and not a businessman," she mocked.

Charles who had been silent all along finally had a chance to mock Quincy too. He looked at him with disdain, "She's right, you are not allowed to be here, what are you doing here anyways? I think the security should do their jobs right.”

"I will have to call security, I was wondering what a low life like him wants in a place like this!" The lady added, looking down on him like he was some sort of bugs.

"I would listen to the receptionist if I were you. Someone in your...class...can be seen in a place like this. You clearly don't belong here, no need to lie about it," Charles said condescendingly.

Charles' uncle was also in the lobby. He had brought Charles himself to meet with the COO because he believed that would get him in there faster. After all, he had met the man before and had some sort of connection with him. "Come on, this clearly isn't a place for beggars like you, to get lost," the man said gingerly.

Quincy looked at Charles, his uncle, who was pretty arrogant and wanted to prove to all of them that he was closest to the COO and had met him, as well as the receptionist, not only were they acting foolishly but they were gloating when they weren't even sure if they would be welcome in the firm in the first place.

"I don't care why you're here, but I'm sure that you won't be invited in, just get out and stop being a sore loser," Charles added dramatically and gestured at the door.

The receptionist nodded, looking at him with a disgusted stare, she gestured at the door. "I am being rather kind to you, and I know that my boss won't be so nice. You better get out of here now while you still can before I change my mind and decide to call security to do their job," she threatened him openly.

"Yes, Quincy, get out now. This isn’t a place for a man of your level. You have no idea what sort of business takes place here," Charles states arrogantly.

Quincy didn't move, he kept staring at him with disappointment. He was last to agree, he was just pitiful of their ignorance, and he didn't say a word to them. He had to wait for the COO to arrive, that was the only way he could show them just how foolish they had been to judge him.

"Get out of here, this place is meant for people that are important, for men that actually have money, unlike you, a wanna be business tycoon!" The lady snapped at him and attempted to grab the phone and call the security men to throw him out of the building.

But just then, the COO emerged from his office, a warm smile on his face. The lady smirked, pleased that he would be eager to send someone like Quincy out immediately. He didn't toy with the business, and he only associated himself with men of class and prestige.

"Good, the COO is here himself and he will allow the security to deal with..." But she didn't get to finish her sentence when suddenly she noticed that the COO wasn't listening to her at all. He was heading towards Quincy with hurried steps, and he was quite flustered as he got to him.

"My apologies, Mr. Chen, I'm so sorry for keeping you waiting for too long," He said with a respectful bow.

Quincy didn't say much to the man, he simply nodded, and the man apologized profusely again as he led him towards his office. "Please, follow me, I'm ready to see you now, Mr. Chen," the COO said eagerly as he led him away.

The receptionist's mocking expression crumbled, replaced by raw shock and embarrassment. She couldn't believe her boss had come out to personally receive the man she had so brazenly insulted.

Charles and his uncle stood dumbfounded, their jaws slack. How could the powerful COO treat this seemingly ordinary man with such respect?

Quincy couldn't help the smirk that stretched his lips as he walked past them. He looked at them condescendingly and said, "I'll be sure to send in your resumes to the mailroom, they might have an open position for people like you, you could use some money," he addressed Charles and his uncle who were still too stunned to say a word. They simply looked at him, their mouth agape.

Charles and his uncle could only stare, utterly humiliated, as Quincy disappeared into the COO's office. The receptionist, meanwhile, found herself gaping at the difference between the men's outfit - Charles and his uncle's lavish outfits - versus Quincy's more modest appearance. Yet it was Quincy, not the Walters, who had earned the COO's respect.

“W-Wait, what just happened? Did Quincy just go into the CEO’s office?” Charles muttered, asking no one in particular.
