Alex followed his aunt and Barnabe, and they led him to an elevator. Barnabe pressed the button that had "Hugh Penthouse" italicized on it. The elevator led them to the penthouse. Alex stepped in with them. The penthouse had huge glass windows that looked over the whole city. It was serene. It was a spacious living room with high-end furniture. The furniture was of the finest quality. The luxurious space was decorated with the finest-grade gray curtains hanging from the ceiling to the floor. There was a black grand piano in the space and lots of art.
"Please sit here sir." Barnabe gestured to Alex to sit on the fine sofa as he was supporting his aunt to sit too.
"I'm not that old, Barnabe. I think I can manage to sit down by myself. Thank you" Barnabe and leaves her.
"Why didn't you wait at the hospital? We could have come to pick you up." Asked his aunt.
"I was tired of being cooped up in there." Alex stood up and walked to take in the view from his penthouse.
"That's true. But, aside from that, I have to ask you, why are you still hiding the truth of what happened and who hurt you? I'm your family and I would go to the ends of the earth to bring justice for you."
"Revenge is best served cold. I want to do this my way" He said sternly to his aunt with a sort of coldness across his face. His aunt let out a heavy sigh and nodded in support despite not wanting that for Alexander.
Just then, they heard a knock on the door. It was Mr. Logan, the hotel manager followed by the receptionist. Barnabe opened the door and he came in bowing his head.
"You asked to see us, Sir. Sir, please I don't want to lose my job. I didn't know you were the new president of Hugh. I don't usually behave like that Sir." He was begging.
"I was wrong, Sir, in assuming. It was a mistake on my part. Please, Sir, forgive me and I promise to change." He continued.
"No, you don't behave like that to the high-class people. But the low class is trash to you." Alex looked at Mr. Logan who still had his head bowed. "I'm not firing you." He sighed."What is your name?" He asked the receptionist.
"My name is Paige Sir." She answered quickly. "I know I acted poorly but I was just doing my job of upholding the importance of the hotel"
"So your importance included throwing out anyone that looked a certain way, right? Alex demanded of her. "If those are what this hotel works with, then that's wrong." He spoke strictly to her. Paige kept mute.
"Anyways, you aren't getting fired. Neither are you, Mr Logan."
"Thank you, Sir, thank you so much." Echoed across the room.
"But! you're both on probation starting now," Alex said grimly with his head held up high. "Your work will be monitored and any misstep, you are fired. That will teach you not to evaluate people before you know them"
"OK, Sir. Thank you." Mr. Logan alongside Paige bowed heads cheerfully to him and left.
"I can already see that the company is in better hands." Alex's aunt said with a fulfilled smile on her face staring at Alex.
Just then, Lucas stepped in with Emma.
"Hello," said a lovely Emma.
"Oh, my good heavens. You are extremely ravishing, Alex wasn't exaggerating when he said so." Eleanor said, throwing her arms out for Emma to come to her. Emma hugged her and sat close to her.
"You're younger than Alex had told me. I only pray to look like this once I'm your age." Emma said to her, smiling back.
"Oh please don't flatter me, child. I might not let you go easily." They both laughed.
"I can't thank you enough for saving my Alex. He's all I had left and you saved me by rescuing him" She fondled Emma's face.
"It's okay. I'm happy I did" She said smiling at Alex.
"Well, I guess I'm not needed in this conversation," Alex said, looking at them. They all laughed.
Just then, Lucas cuts in on them. "I have all the files you requested ma'am," Lucas said, handing a large set of files to Eleanor. She collected them and handed them over to Alex.
"Those files contain all the companies or businesses under Hugh. You should start from here. Lucas would put you through in case of difficulty." she said. Alex took the files and perused them.
"Dawson Winery!? We own that company?" He asked surprised.
"Yes and No Sir. We only own 50% of the company because they get funding from us," Lucas explained to Alex.
Alex chuckled. Dawson was right in his palm and he could do to him as he wished.
"So, if we take the funding from them, what would happen?" Alex asked, sucking his teeth and sneering.
"They might likely fold up Sir or go bankrupt."
"Good! Take the funding back." He said with bloodshot eyes and a hardness on his face.
"Sir, are you serious?" Asked a shocked Lucas.
"Did I stutter!? I said take it all away." Lucas stared at the aunt and she gave a supporting Alex look.
"But Mr. Frank Cason is still the CEO and we can't do anything yet for now until after the meeting with the stakeholders to make it official," Lucas said to the aunt.
"It's his company either now or after the meeting so if he thinks Dawson Winery funds should be removed, then remove them." She told Lucas.
"Alright ma, right away. I will make it happen." Lucas said and was about to leave.
"Wait, before you go," Alex said, taking his eyes away from the files. "Call me Alexander or Alex, anyone you prefer. I've never been a Sir. It still kinda irks me."
"Yes Sir, sorry Alexander." He smiled and turned to Emma. "Are you ready?"
"Ready? Ready for what?" Asked a curious Alex.
"I have classes and Lucas has agreed to drop me off at school." She said walking up to Alex.Alex nodded his head and hugged Emma tightly.
He whispered to her ears. "Can I come to pick you up later once you are done with class?"
"Maybe" She broke the hug, smiled at Alex, and left with Lucas.
Just then Barnabe got off a call and whispered something to Aunt Eleanor. She suddenly looked at Alex happily.
Alex saw his aunt's sudden happiness and wondered what was the reason."What is it? Asked a curious Alex."That was the captain. The helicopter is ready at the helipad to take us to your house." She said joyfully. Barnabe helped her up from the couch she sat on."We have a helipad, Wow! Okay. I'm ready." He supported his aunt to walk while Barnabe took all the files along. They took the elevator to the roof and took the helicopter. It was the first time Alex had ever been on one. He could see the whole of the city. It looked so beautiful from up there. Twenty minutes later, they landed in the most exquisite mansion Alex had ever seen. Alex got down and saw the mansion that stood before him. It was grand and imposing with greeneries encircling it. It had a classical architectural style, with detailed and ornate carvings and moldings. He was awed by what he saw.Alex saw an entourage waiting for him outside the large entrance of the mansion. They were dressed in specific uniforms. "Proba
Darren stopped at a park because he was instructed by Alex to do so. They got down and got food from the food truck that was packed close to the park. Darren stood close to the car with his eyes fixed on them.Alex gawked at Emma as she munched on the hot dog they had gotten."What? Why are you staring at me like that?" She asked as soon as she noticed Alex staring at her."Can I tell you the truth?" Alex asked with seriousness on his face."Sure! What is it?" Asked Emma as she dropped the remaining hotdog on the paper towel."I didn't want to live anymore that morning you saved me. I was ready to die because I had nothing else to live for. I had everything taken away from me by someone who meant everything to me. I thought life didn't want me anymore. But you came out of nowhere and helped me. And I'm grateful that you did. I owe you my life." He said calmly."You don't owe me anything. I helped you because it was the right thing to do at that moment. I was scared shitless but I'm hap
Mr Carson stormed out of the meeting in anger. He never expected that Mr Williams had an heir tucked away somewhere waiting to emerge one day. He left the meeting and a few of his friends who were also board members, who shared his opinion on the matter, left with him. Mr Graham sighed heavily. "Well, that's that. He looked at Eleanor and back to the remaining board members. "Mr. Cason is right in a way Mr Graham, you can't just spring this on us. Why wasn't this read or made known the first time the will was read? This is a huge responsibility and money and shares are at stake." Said one of the members of the board. Mr Graham spoke with them trying to make them understand and see reasons why that part of the will was never said or read. He told them it was all part of Mr. Williams's orders and that he was just simply obeying them. Alex and his aunt Eleanor kept quiet to allow Mr. Graham to do his job. After much talk, they finally agreed with what was written in the will. Mr Gra
"Is a party really necessary, Aunty? I mean I just want to stay low. I don't want the media on my face Aunty" Alex said to his Aunt politely. His aunt had called him to inform him of the party she planned on holding because of Alex. A party showing the whole city and the substantial and affluent people of the city that he was now the CEO of Hugh, and also the Hugh family's long-lost heir. But Alex wasn't so keen on the idea of a party because he didn't want to be seen just yet by Carla, Dawson, or even Carla's family or anyone who knew him with them. He wanted to deal with them secretly until he revealed himself once they were broken. He knew the party would put him in the spotlight and that would kinda twat his plans to get back at them. "I don't really want a party, Aunty. But if you must parade me then can we hold a close party and no media? Please?" Alex inquired of his aunt warmly. "Fine, if that's what you want dear. But I can't guarantee you that the media won't be there b
At The Penthouse; 4 PM Alex and Lucas drove to the penthouse that he wanted to check out. He was ready to pick his place. The best houses were selected and shown to him and he chose this particular one because it was situated in the most secluded and quiet part of the city. Not to mention it was in the most expensive part of the city. They drove right up to the towering building and the valet came up to park their car properly. Alex instructed Darren to drive with the valet to know the proper parking space. An old security man was standing right outside the entrance and he greeted Alex politely, bowing his head, and Alex returned his greeting. They walked into the reception and it was serene and exquisite. From the chandeliers hanging from the ceiling to the marbled floors, it screamed pricey. But above all, it was peaceful. "I can see why this particular building caught your attention out of all the others," Lucas said to Alex, walking behind him and grinning. Alex smiled and ju
"He's no longer the CEO. A new one was appointed today and according to my research, it said that he's the long-lost heir of the Hugh family, Sir.""I see. Did he mention any other reason for the meeting apart from my funding?" He asked pacing around the sitting room. Carla sat but had a worried look on her face because of the way Dawson was reacting to the call."No Sir, just that Sir." "When's the meeting?" "It's tomorrow morning Sir." "Ok Marla, what's the fucking time! I can't just walk to Hugh's office tomorrow morning without a particular time, now can I?" He was getting angry at his assistant."I'm so sorry Sir but I was unable to get that before he ended the call. I tried calling back and no answer came."He fumed and yelled at her over the phone."You are such an incompetent fool, Marla! Sometimes, I wonder why I still keep you around because you fail at your job every fucking day!. You mess up the simplest of tasks!" Carla's curiosity had overridden her at this point that
Mr. Luis got mad seeing he was talking to his boss. "How dare you talk to him…." But Alex just beckoned to him to let Dawson complete his insults."I will tell you right here and right now Mr. Luis, don't offer him any job, he will dupe and scam you people. That's what he does, an unfortunate fellow. He's the poorest person I have ever seen. Probably begging for pennies to save himself." "Aren't you even ashamed of yourself Alex? Begging from pillar to post. Now, because Carla was fed up with you, you decided to latch on to her" Dawson said, pointing at Alex's secretary."He's not latching onto me. Rather, he's my boss, and by the looks of it, I'm sure he's yours too." The Secretary reprimanded Dawson."Boss!" He laughed out loud because he didn't believe the Secretary. "Does this one know the first thing about being a boss? He lost his stupid business because he couldn't handle it. Anyway, I'm not here for him. I have warned you, people, it's now left for you guys to take my advice
He sighed heavily after a while and let go of the bitterness he felt.He requested cookies and coffee from the chef because he had to sort out the list of house managers sent to him by Cameron. He needed to examine them and choose the best one for his house. He finally slumped on his bed in the early hours of the next day.****He woke up at 6 AM because he couldn't sleep anymore. He turned on his bed for a few minutes and then decided to go for a run to put some things off his mind. He wanted to jog around the neighborhood alone but Darren, his personal security and driver wouldn't allow him. He jogged and Darren drove the car behind him in case of anything. He jogged for about an hour taking in the beautiful landscapes and structures around the estate. Darren drove him back to the mansion when he was exhausted. He got home and decided to quickly hit the shower before anything else.Just while he was on his way to his bedroom, he saw a room open at the end of the hall that he hadn't
