chapter 5 : Not the same as yesterday

Slapping the receptionist had left everyone gasping, as they had now realized how serious the whole issue had become, even the receptionist herself was still shocked and confused by this.

The manager had never raised a finger on her untill now, which was really getting her really confused as she was now beginning to see how serious the whole issue was.

She stood there her hands still pressed tightly to her left cheek, she could still feel the stinging sensation on her cheek, even with all this, her eyes were still shooting daggers at mason, who some how still remained calm and collected.

Mason was beginning to get bored by the whole situation, the commotion had been on for close to 30mins which was beginning to bore Mason, he really wanted his night sleep after a long day at work.

" Can I get the keys to my room now? " Mason asked stretching out his right hand.

With one glance , the manger could tell that Mason was angry or rather pissed and tired of the whole situation so he turned to look at the receptionist who was still holding her burning cheek.

" Get the room prepared for our guest " the manager said and the receptionist nodded reluctantly.

But as she was about to turn around and leave, the manager's voice stopped her in her track.

" And before you do that, kneel and apologize to him " he said with audacity.

Turning around the receptionist looked at the manger with a questioned look, not like she wanted to go against the manager's orders but what the manger was asking her to do was something she was not willing to do anytime soon.

Without doing anything else, the receptionist stood there exchanging glances between the manager and Mason, she just couldn't see herself kneeling and apologizing to a mare bread delivery man like Mason.

A minute passed and the receptionist was still standing transfixed to her position with the questioned look still on her face, all what she could think of was maybe the manager was only being sarcastic and not being serious.

" Security !! Security !! " The manager called as he saw that she was not ready to apologise.

Two hefty guards who had a well pressed gray long sleeve t-shirt and a black coloured trouser coupled with black boots and a black cap could be seen arriving at the scene. They stood a few inches away as they awaited orders

" Take her out of this place, and I don't want to see her anywhere near this premises or else you both will lose your job " the manager's voice boomed with seriousness that even the security men gulped in fear.

They quickly walked towards the now confused receptionist, who was moving backwards trying to avoid their touch.

They grabbed her by the arms swiftly and made to walk her out of the hotel and if she resisted they wouldn't mind carrying her out of the hotel with force.

" Please sir , I'm really sorry , it won't happen again, please don't throw me out, this job is the only job I got , "

Seeing that this whole thing was actually serious and that the manager meant every word he said, the receptionist who was still in the middle of the two guards holding her arms quickly began pleading to the manager instead of Mason.

She had totally ignored Mason, to her he was nothing but trash and only the manger deserved her apology, Little did she know that this action of hers had done more harm than good, it had even gotten the manager more furious than he already was.

The manger who was getting more angry, ignored her plea and watched as the security men began to pull, push and take her away.

The receptionist saw that if she mistakenly step her foot out of the hotel , that would be the end of her job, she already knew it would mean she would be jobless.

How would she fend her bills, how would she pay her rents, how would she feed and how would she cope with the status of being unemployed, all these were what she was beginning to consider and as she was dragged to the side of Mason, she decided to lower her pride and do the needful.

" I'm really sorry sir, I know I did you wrong, I lied against you, mistreated and disrespected you, but I have learnt my lessons now and please find a place in your heart to forgive me " she said as she quickly went down on her knees grabbing hold of Mason's shoes in the process.

" Please help me talk to the manager so they won't kick me out, I have no other job, if I loose my job I will be done for, it will be over for me , please sir I beg of you. " The receptionist said in between sobs still holding firmly to Mason's feet.

Looking at the crying woman at his feet, Mason didn't need a soothsayer to know that she was only acting, and not really sorry, he knew she wasn't been sincere but being the good and calm man that Mason was, he decided to let everything go, he decided to forgive her.

" It's fine get on your feet , I forgive you " Mason said as he bent down holding her hand, Pulling her back to her feet .

The security guards were still holding her, they still wanted to kick her out but then they could see the manager lifting up his hands indicating that they should let her be, which they did immediately.

" You both can go back to your duty posts now " the manager said and the two security guards could be seen walking out of the scene.

" Thank you sir " the receptionist said to Mason , as he nodded.

Then going back behind her desk, she needed not to be told what to do , she took out a key and went on to prepare the room, then after that, Mason was led to the presidential suite.

By now the whole commotion was no more, the few people around could be seen whispering to themselves as they went back to whatever they were doing before the whole drama.

Inside the room, Mason breath a sigh of relief, today had been a crazy day for him, from being dumped by his girlfriend to receiving a whopping credit of fifty million dollars, to being surrounded by a fleet of cars, to visiting a man at the restaurant, and to the whole drama at the reception desk.

Mason fell on the bed, he could feel the softness of the bed, the white cotton material was top-notch, the whole room spoke of wealth, the air conditioner itself was something else and right now all Mason wanted was a quick shower.

Peeling off the bread delivery uniform off his body, Mason walked to the bathroom with only his briefs clinging to his waist, he took the pure white towel from the hanger and entered the bathroom.

Mason was awed by the arrangements of this place, there was a shower stand which was enclosed in a bath tube, a type of golden bathtub was also present together with a mini jaccuzi.

The whole place was tiled with white colored tiles which sparkled in the dim light of the bathroom. Mason walked into the bath tube and switched on the shower he adjusted the water to warm.

As the warm water poured on his body, his mind drifted to all what had transpired today,he just couldn't stop thinking about his girlfriend or probably his ex girlfriend , as it was clear she was done with him, it was only that he was still finding it hard to accept this fact.

After the shower , standing at a half length mirror staring at his reflection, Mason couldn't just believe he was now fifty million dollars rich, it all still sounded like a dream, but then Mason knew it was better to go along with the flow at least just to see where all this was heading.

Mason got out of the bathroom, wiped his body with the towel and laid on the bed, he really needed to sleep after all the drama he had faced earlier, who knows what the next day holds for him.

Mason was woken by the bright sunlight which penetrated from a little corner of the slightly parted curtain, and as he made to sit up, his cell phone began to ring.

Checking the screen of the ringing cell phone, Mason could see that it was one of his roommates calling, he quickly picked up. After a while of discussion the call ended.

The call was from one of his roommates who called to remind him to come for classes early so as not to be punished. Mason knew his roommate wasn't just telling him to come early, instead he was telling him to come to class early so that everyone in the school could insult and bully him as usual.

Mason was aware that every morning he got to college every single student would surely surround him only to insult and remind him of who he really is, but who knows, maybe all that is in the past now, after all, he wasn't the same Mason he was yesterday.
