Chapter 10

Outside LR real estate company, Miranda stood there scrolling through her phone. She was looking for Lady Mary's number. When she finally found it, she dialed it and it rang several times. However, no one picked up.

She tried it again and again but the old lady didn't answer her call. This got Miranda worried and she decided to call one of her cousins.

Piper picked up her phone almost immediately. “What is it?" She spoke in a harsh voice and Miranda could tell that she was angry.

“Piper, I uh… I've been trying to reach Lady Mary but she isn't picking up. Go and check if she's doing alright.”

Her cousins and their parents lived with the old lady at the family villa.

“Hmph." Piper scoffed at her and replied sarcastically. “So you know no one else to send that errand of yours and decided to send me, your new servant."

“Moreover, why the hell are you calling Lady Mary? If it's so urgent, why don't you go to the villa and check her up, dear caring Mira."

Piper angrily ended the call even before Miranda could say anything else. She kept wondering why her cousin was so angry at her.

“Oh, I get it now." Miranda muttered to herself as she made her way out to hail a cab. Piper was angry because her proposal was rejected by LR.

Once she was inside their family villa, Miranda raced inside but saw lady Mary sitting at the lounge of the villa. She was engrossed in reading a newspaper and had a bottle and a glass of red wine before her. Beside her chair, was her phone and Miranda kept wondering why she didn't pick her call.

If she had been there all along, why did she have to neglect her calls?

“Lady Mary, I was so worried about you. You haven't been picking up any of my calls." Miranda said as she stared down at the old lady, worry evident on her face.

The lady merely lifted up her head and glanced at Miranda before engrossing herself in her papers again.

“Why were you calling me repeatedly? I hope you came bearing good news. That's all I want to hear now.” Lady Mary replied nonchalantly.

"I was worried about…"

“Why were you worried about me?" Lady Mary interrupted, carefully placing the papers beside her. She reached for her glass of wine and took a sip before lifting her face to glare at Miranda who was still standing.

“I uh, I wanted to tell you."

“Sit down." Lady Mary ordered and Miranda quietly reached for the closest couch and settled in it. She was like a meek lamb and didn't want to do anything that would offend the old lady. Lady Mary just didn't like her and she could not explain the reason.

Her hatred was also fueled by the fact that she refused to divorce Liam who everyone was seeing as a nobody.

“Now, tell me the good news." She said to Miranda, her voice devoid of any emotions.

With a wide grin on her face, Miranda spilled the beans. "My design was accepted and I've been asked to come tomorrow to sign the contract.”

"Wow, that's great news. This calls for celebration.” The old lady declared happily and Miranda was delighted to see the transition of her mood. Atleast, she won't be seen as a worthless person anymore. Since she was able to pull off such a huge deal, then her status in the family would definitely change.

Unfortunately, she wasn't sure about that because Liam was still her husband.

“Come on, join me."

Since she only has one glass, Lady Mary poured some drinks for her with her glass and passed it to Miranda. “Here, have my glass."

Stunned, Miranda reluctantly collected the glass and the old lady sent for another one. “Drink up.”

Although Miranda could not believe what was happening, she took one sip from the drink and was about to say something when her phone started ringing. It was one of her assistants at the diner.

Swiftly, she excused herself and went to answer the call. After she was done, she went back to the old lady.

"Uh, lady Mary. I have to go now because they need me at the restaurant.”

"Ofcourse, go on then. You've done your part as a Weston and I'm proud of you. Although, I'd be more proud if you divorce that worthless man you call a husband.” Lady Mary spoke the last words with her nose but Miranda heard her.

“I'll go ahead now.”

"Is that Miranda leaving? Was her design approved?” Ruby Weston asked as she made her way to meet her aunt in-law. She was inside the house all along and was just arriving at the place when Miranda was leaving.

Lady Mary turned her gaze to the exit door and nodded. “Yeah and she got the contract. We have to start making preparations for it.”

“Yeah, that's good. So tell me, Lady Mary. Will you let her handle the project.” Ruby said as she helped herself with some wine. She was visibly not happy that her daughter lost to Miranda.

Miranda was not better than Piper. How was it possible that her designs were easily accepted while her daughter's was rejected.

Turning her gaze to meet with Ruby, Lady Mary gazed at her but said nothing.

After Miranda left LR, Liam made her way to Aura cosmetics together with Sean, his manager.

“Go ahead, I'll meet you up at the place." Liam said to him and without any question, the man obeyed. He could not comprehend the kind of person his new boss was.

However, he would not be questioning any of his decisions. All he owed Liam was to do his job right.

“Alright Sir."

Sean got into his car and drove away while Liam went to hail a cab. When he got to Aura cosmetics, Sean was already at the place together with Landon and Rogers. They were waiting for Liam.

Landon was the CEO of Aura cosmetics while Rogers owned the company.

Liam soon arrived at the place and made his way to the conference hall where they'd be sealing the deal and handing over ownership to him. While on his way, he bumped into a few familiar faces who kept giving him a demeaning look. However, Liam ignored all the questioning stare and proceeded to his destination.

“Excuse me Sir, you're not allowed in there." Liam heard the receptionist trying to stop him but he didn't pay heed to her.

“I'll call the security on you if you continue." The young lady threatened. Unfortunately, her threats did nothing to stop Liam so she decided to run after him.

Knowing what was about to transpire at the conference hall, the young lady didn't want to lose her job by letting a stranger disrupt her bosses from their meeting.

Liam got to the place and pushed the door open at the same time the lady caught up with him. With a pleading look on her face, she apologized to the stunned faces of her bosses.

“I'm so sorry Sirs, I tried to stop him but he wouldn't listen."
