003. YOUNG MASTER DOMINIC.

Dominic Shay was seated in the waiting room of Primrose Hospital, awaiting the results of Mrs Jameson's heart surgery. He wasn't sure how many hours had passed since he had been waiting. One, maybe two, or three. But it felt like he had been waiting forever.

Mrs Grace Jameson came from a middle class family, meaning they weren't super rich, but they weren't poor either. They had just enough. So naturally when it was time for her to get married, her family was expecting her to bring home someone from a high class family, or at least a middle class, but they were horrified when they found out that her choice of husband was from a low class family.

She had met him at the company where she worked, she was there as an intern while her husband, Craig Jameson worked as a messanger.

After her internship, Mrs Jameson– who was known as Miss Grace Thompson back then– was promoted to assistant manager, putting her six offices ahead of her husband. But that never stopped the young couple from tying the knot two years after their courtship.

Mrs Jameson had hoped that somewhere along the way, her family would come to accept the man she had chosen, but it was the complete opposite. When her parents realized that she was serious about her intentions, they gave her an impossible condition.

Her husband or her family.

She was distraught by the condition and she didn't know what do do. Regardless of what decision she made, she was still losing something. Despite their shortcomings, she still loved her parents and her two siblings very much, and Craig was one of the best things to ever happen to her. She loved both sides dearly and wished she didn't have to choose. But in the end, she chose to be with the man she loved.

Dominic remembered always asking her if she regretted her decision to stay with her husband and her reply was that she had lived her life doing what her parents wanted, trying to be the perfect daughter for them. She went to the school they chose, studied the course they chose for her, and she was tired of it.

She said choosing her husband was the first decision she made for herself, and so she didn't regret it.

Even though he was deep in his thoughts, Dominic could feel someone walk up behind him and he knew he was no longer alone. Ever since he was young, he was always able to tell when someone was behind him so it was almost impossible for anyone to sneak up on him.

He rose to his feet and turned, expecting to see the face of the doctor or a nurse but instead he came face to face with a dark skinned, half bald man.

"Hello young master." The man said, smiling at Dominic.

"Sorry, do I know you?" He raised a questioning brow at the older man and he frowned in return.

"Young master, I know you remember me."

"You must have me confused with someone else. I have no idea who you are." He started to walk away when the man spoke up again.

"I suppose you must be wondering who settled the bills of that elderly woman!"

Dominic paused in his tracks and rolled his eyes. So it was him!

"What do you want?" He said as he turned back to face the man.

"So you do remember me."

"Of course I remember you Stanley. You watched and said nothing as that man chased me and my mother away!" It was a memory Dominic could never erase from his mind.

The cold look on his grandfather's face. The pleased grin his younger brother had. The pained and heartbroken tears his mother shed. He remembered it all too well. In fact, he didn't think he could ever forget it.

"Young master Dominic, I want you to know that I had no control over what happened that fateful day. I wasn't happy about it but my hands were tied, I am but a butler after all, and there is a great limit to what I can and cannot do in the Shay Empire."

"Still you could have said something! Anyway, it's all in the past now, it doesn't matter anymore. Why are you here?"

"Young master, your grandfather wants you to come back home. He believes it is high time for you to reclaim your post as the heir to the Shay Empire. It is time to take your seat as the CEO to the Shay's Megacorp."

"Really? You gotta be kidding me. Now you want me to come back? Do you have any idea what I had to go through?"

"Your grandfather regretted his actions greatly and he sent me to find you. I have been searching for you for two whole years before I finally learnt that you were living with Grace Jameson."

"And that's the reason you settled the hospital bills? So you could force me to come back?"

"I would never do that to you sire, the Shay manor has been too quiet without you. Your grandfather needs you, young master."

"He needs me? Well what about when I needed him?! When I begged him not to chase me away? Stanley I had nowhere to go."

"He has realized his mistakes, just–"

"It's too late Stanley! I lost my mother! I was all alone for so long," Dominic's voice was breaking and he felt his eyes stinging with unshed tears. "I was all alone Stanley, no one was there for me. The only person who truly loved me, the only person I had, died. Stanley, my mother died and there was nothing I could do about it. I couldn't even give her a befitting burial."

"You must have gone through a lot, and I'm not denying the fact that Master Shay has some fault in it."

"Some?"

"Please hear me out sire. Your grandfather made a mistake, and he has realized it. Now he wants you back– no– he needs you back. This is your chance to make a come back.

The Shay's Megacorp has just opened up a new branch and your grandfather would like to put you in charge of it."

"Not interested."

Stanley sighed and retrieved a credit card from his suit pocket. "Sire, take this black card."

"Why?"

"It contains pocket money that you can spend for a week or two. I can see that you still need time to think about this, and I can't meet you like this and leave you empty handed."

"I don't want it."

"Young master, it is very understandable that you're still upset. No one would experience what you did and not have resentful feelings, but you need to understand that your family needs your help."

"My help? What about the golden son?"

"I'm afraid your brother has absconded with some documents worth millions of dollars and he drove the company almost to the point of bankruptcy."

"What?"
