006. THE MEETING.

"What did you say?!" Tomas questioned angrily.

"Didn't you hear him? He said to wait at the lounge." Dominic said in a mocking tone, then turned back to the COO who still looked embarrassed. "Wait, you guys have a lounge?"

"Uh yes." He nodded. "We let the staff relax there on their break, and some of our clients also wait there when I'm in a meeting and unable to see them yet."

"What has gotten into you Preston, Why are you explaining yourself to this nobody?"

"Please, just wait here Mr Tomas." Preston suspected that Dominic might be someone sent to inspect how he was handling the business, because how else would he know that he wasn't the real owner?

"I can not! I absolutely can not be asked to wait here because of this idiot! We are clearly not in the same class, I mean people like him should bow and grovel when they see me. I will not be delayed because of this nuisance."

"Sir, please be patient. This is an office environment, try to compose yourself." The receptionist tried to calm Tomas but he wasn't ready to be calm.

"Compose himself, now that was rude. Don't you know who we are?" Maria said, supporting her boyfriend. "Why the hell should we have to wait because a nobody wanted to see you? He's probably just here to beg for money or something, so why the hell should he be prioritized more than we are?"

Dominic almost laughed, he was enjoying the show they were putting on, his wife's rude cousin and her garbage boyfriend, showing their true colors in public. A lot of the other staff had paused what they were doing and were now staring at the rude and arrogant couple harassing their CEO and an innocent young man– him.

"Sir,"

"You know what?" Dominic said, and all eyes turned on him. "You can attend to them first. I'll wait. They are starting to constitute a nuisance and I bet it must be getting irritating."

"Don't worry about that, let's go–"

"Really, go ahead. I'll wait, is it alright if I stayed at the lounge?"

"Of course, go right ahead."

"Cool. Thanks."

Tomas glared at Dominic as he and Maria followed Preston to the elevator. "Know your place loser." Tomas said, intentionally hitting Dominic with his shoulder as he walked by.

"Oh I will."

Dominic patiently waited until Tomas and Maria had been attended to and were escorted out of the building before he went to Preston's office. He needed to let him know who was boss, but he was going to do it his own way.

"So, Preston is it?"

"Um yes. Might I ask who you are?"

Dominic ignored his question and went on. "I'm assuming you were hired by a man named Stanley. Tall, in his late fifties, dark skinned, kind of bald? Looks like he's from royalty and uses frameless glasses?"

When he described Stanley without leaving out a single detail, Preston felt his heart beat faster with fear. He thought that definitely Dominic was sent to inspect him, and he had ruined his chance at a perfect first impression. "Yes, you're right. May I ask how you know him?"

"Oh Stanley? He's my butler." Dominic replied casually as he was walking around the office. "This is a really nice office, I'm guessing it belongs to the CEO?"

"Y.. yes sir." Preston suddenly became nervous and was fidgeting like an intern who went for an interview.

"You see Preston, I'm here to assume my position as the CEO of this company, but I don't want anyone to know that yet."

"So what do you need me to do sir?"

"Nothing much really. You're still going to stay as the face of the company, everyone will see you as the CEO. But whatever you do, or want to do, you have to report to me. Is that alright by you?"

"Of course sir. More than alright."

"Good. Does anyone else in the company knows you don't really own the place?"

"Just the accountant sir."

"Okay, then set up a meeting between the three of us. And uh, include the receptionist."

"What? But she's not aware."

"I know, but I have my reasons." She seemed nice and he believed she could prove to be a useful asset to him in the future.

"Of course sir. Um when should I–"

"It's going to be a brief meeting so try to make time for me during your break today."

"Today?!"

"Yes. I have officially resumed my position today. Do you have any problem with that?"

"Absolutely not sir. Why would I?"

"Great then. One more thing Preston,"

"What is it sir?"

"I think I'm going to be needing an office."

"R.. right. I'll move my things out and –"

"That won't be necessary. Since you're still the face of the company, you should stick with this office. Just fix up something comfortable for me."

"Of course sir, I'll get right on it."

Now that he had assumed the position, Dominic had two goals on his mind. First, remove Tomas and his girlfriend from the list of people working with his company.

Then second, he was going to help his wife get the promotion she wanted.

"Ciara, you really need to get that husband of yours under control." Maria complained as she arrived back at the Fallon house.

"What do you mean?"

"Just the other day he ruined gram's birthday party and today he practically insulted Tomas and I."

"Insulted you? How?"

"How dare he call me a trashy person? What insolence!"

"I'm sorry about that, I'm sure it must be a misunderstanding."

"Would you stop defending him Ciara?" Her mother scolded. "He insulted your cousin, even if you don't care about her boyfriend – which to be honest, I think he is kind of trashy– you should at least care about your cousin."

"Mother, that is not a nice thing to say. Maria, I don't think Tomas is a trashy person and I am really sorry about Dominic's attitude towards you. I promise you, I'll talk to him once he's back."

"Where did the loser go to anyway?" Florence, Ciara's mother asked, not out of concern for him but just to know his whereabouts.

"Tomas and I ran into him at the very same company we're all trying to collaborate with – the DnD real estates. And you'll never guess what he said, he said he was looking for a job." Maria laughed but she was the only one.

Florence looked unmoved, either because she was certain he couldn't never get a job there or maybe she just didn't care.

Ciara on the other hand looked more worried, she knew how all their advances had been denied so she was worried about how he would do.

Deep down, she hoped he would actually get the job, so maybe at least then her family would stop treating her so badly and teasing her for marrying a poor man.

"Thank you all for sparing some time for me, I already promised Preston here that I wasn't going to take much of your time, and I intend to keep that promise."

When he called Preston by his name, the accountant and the receptionist exchanged a look of surprise between each other.

"First, I think it's only right that I introduce myself. My name is Dominic Shay, first son of the Shay family. Heir to the Shay Empire, and as of today, the CEO of the DnD real estates." Neither of them said a word, so he added. "I believe this is the part where you introduce yourselves as well."

"Right of course." Preston was the first to speak up. "I'm Preston Adams, the COO of the DnD real estates."

"I'm Anna Kimberly," The receptionist followed, a warm smile on her face. "The receptionist of the DnD real estates."

Then finally, almost reluctantly , the accountant said. "Daniel Bakare, accountant of this firm."

"Nice to meet you all, and I look forward to working with you guys."

"Yes sir."

"Okay, to round things up, I feel it's necessary I let you know that I do not intend to be that guy. The fact that my father owns the company doesn't mean I'm going to be a pain to you guys, I'm here to learn. To understand how things work here, to gain more working experience. So I am not going to inconvenient either of you in any way, in fact I would prefer it if you just acted like I wasn't around.

Note that if I see a mistake or something that I feel needs to be addressed, I will point it out, but that's it. I hope we can be friends from here on."

"That's great but what about when people start asking question?" Daniel asked.

It didn't take a genius to see that Daniel didn't like him, and he thought that was unfair since he had only just met him. "Well, if anyone asks, I'm working under Preston. You could say that I'm his personal assistant or maybe an intern. What ever boat floats your waters."

"I look forward to working with you Mr Shay. " Anna seemed to be the only one who was actually pleased to have him around.

He could understand Preston feeling threatened because he felt he was being replaced, but what about Daniel?

Definitely something must be up between them, and Dominic was going to find out what it was.
