Rylan glanced at his Rolex impatiently. It was getting late, and he wondered what was going on. Williams had told him he would find Jain’s last location and send it to him but had no response since then. He feared that Jain could be in danger, and with each passing second, she could be on the verge of death.

There was a satisfying feeling that came which cured the anxiety Rylan had felt a few hours ago. He was aware that something bad was about to happen, and it did now. Jain was missing, and Stanley had been found as the killer. There had to be one thing that could lead Rylan to Jain, but he was far away from home, and it would take so much time to go back there to find her. He was going to leave all the work to Williams. He knew what he was going to do.

A few minutes later, his phone rang and he looked at the caller’s ID. It was Williams. He quickly picked up the call and placed the phone in his ear, hoping that he was going to get some good news.

“Hello Williams? Did you find he

“And when I mean big, I mean something huge,” Karen McCullough said. Frederick leaned against his chair and rubbed his chin as they brainstormed. His daughter had just opened his mind to something they hadn’t thought of until now. Carlos Borges was part of the Valdez cartel a few years ago, and so was he. That was where they had first met. He had left the cartel long before the feud between him and Ernesto escalated. What Fredrick didn’t understand was why Ernesto had left San Diego to Carlos’s control. He was the stronger and the most influential of the two. At least that was what he had thought. But tonight, Karen had opened his eyes to the bigger picture. There was a possibility that Carlos had wanted to rule San Diego by himself, and when Ernesto didn’t budge, it led to the separation. Ernesto had fled to Los Angeles while Carlos had remained in San Diego where he had become a menace. The cops couldn’t put him behind bars because they were never able to find incriminating eviden

“W—What?!” Jain asked dumbfounded. It was either Stanley was playing mind games with her or he was being dead serious. Considering he was holding a loaded gun on her forehead, she was going to take the latter as an answer. “That’s right, Jain,” he replied, looking at her phone. He threw it on the floor and landed his foot on it, smashing it into pieces. Jain shrieked as he watched him. He was getting turned up. “Now let’s go inside.”Jain was hesitant, but as he pointed the gun at her forehead, she froze. Jain could feel the cold barrel touch her skin. And then, she knew Stanley was kidding. She raised her hand in surrender and turned around slowly, heading towards the digital room once more. “That’s right. I was the one who killed your daughter, Hope. I was hired by Carlos Borges to do so. You know, I never thought I could take the life of an innocent child. When I stared into those familiar silver eyes of yours, it reminded me of the look your daughter had when she saw the barr

But now Rylan was in a lot of danger, and there was nothing he could do about it. Just as he was pacing around the room, a figure stepped into the room and Wil

Lieutenant Wesley could only watch as the paramedics wheeled Miss Lopez’s body away. Tonight had been a very weird night. Just moments after pronouncing Miss Lopez dead, he had gotten word that Melissa, the records keeper was also in critical condition. The only thing that was keeping him optimistic was the fact that the paramedics had said she was still alive. There were so many questions running through his mind, as he watched the ambulance rush away. Who would do such a thing? It had to be the serial killer. But how was the serial killer able to walk into the station without being noticed and inflict so much damage? Lieutenant Wesley felt so useless. There was nothing he could have done. He hoped that Stanley and Jain would have solved the case before the killer struck again, but he was wrong. They had failed him, and they had lost two critical members of the forces. A black Lamborghini arrived at the driveway of Tristan’s house and came to a halt. The door opened and Rylan stepped out of the car. He was hoping that he was late. Jain was somewhere in here and so was Stanley. He bet that Stanley hid her somewhere. This was a trap, and he was walking right into it but Rylan didn’t care. He had to save Jain. He had made a promise to her, he was going to keep that promise. Rylan got back into his car and pulled out the drawer on the dashboard. In there were two .40 glocks and a black mask. Rylan pulled out the mask and picked out only one of the glocks. He wondered if it was okay to wear the mask. Stanley should have known he was coming by now, so there was no need to hide his face. But it could be an element of surprise. Rylan shoved the .40 Glock into his inner suit pocket and wore the mask. He was ready now. All he had to do was get in there and save Jain. It sounded so waxy, but Rylan knew it wasn’t. This was just like that time he had saved La

He didn’t need to be told twice. Rylan rolled away from Jain and rose to his feet pointing his gun at the figure that had been behind him. It was Stanley who was also pointing his gun at him. Stanley chuckled as he saw the mask on his face. He took his gun away from Rylan and lowered it to Jain’s face. Rylan’s heart skipped a beat. “Take off the mask, Rylan. I already know it’s you.” Rylan sighed and took off the mask from his face, dropping it on the floor. Stanley laughed as he saw his face. Jain who looked up at him now was glad that he was here. She had never been more happy to see Rylan. But it seemed it would be hard for the both of them to get out of this one. “Rylan Daystar. Who would have ever thought?”“Let her go, Stanley.”Stanley chuckled at his words. “And why should I do that?”Rylan’s eyes went to Jain. Her platinum blonde hair was scattered across her face, and her silver eyes indicated she was stressed. He wondered how long she had been in that position. Stan

“Surprise!” Lana said with a nefarious smile. Rylan was trying to put the pieces together, but they couldn’t converge. It looked like a dream. Lana had the gun pointed at his head. He was too stunned to think straight. How was this possible?Lana’s eyes went to Stanley who seemed to have been knocked out. His body lay across the room motionless and she feared that it was dead. “How?” Rylan asked. Lana chuckled as she heard that. She was happy that Rylan was surprised about this. She had almost given herself away earlier today. It was Williams who had saved her surprisingly. The only man who had suspected her from the beginning had saved her ass. Rylan recalled Stanley’s words a few minutes ago. He had made mention of a surprise. If Lana was the surprise then he was indeed surprised. He had thought that Stanley had been playing tricks with him. Jain was also flabbergasted by this. How had Lana been on the wrong side all this whole and she didn’t suspect a thing? Lana had played al

He had lost everything he worked hard for. The company was gone and was now under the control of Carlos Borges. It was only a matter of time before it was official. Karen blamed herself for this. She had been selfish from the beginning. Her hatred for Rylan had cost the family a lot. Now her father had lost the company. The company he had been trying hard to keep. She had told him to hand over the company to Rylan in the hope that she was going to get it back at the end. But that had been in vain. “What do you mean?” She asked. Frederick chuckled as he glanced at his watch. He knew they were coming for him. The only thing on his mind was how long it was going to take. He appeared calm even though he knew he wasn’t going to get out of her scott-free. It had taken him a lot of time to understand. “Kar

VENICE, ITALY6 MONTHS LATER. “Stay away from me!” The man yelled as he ran through the dim streets for shelter. Behind him, a man dressed in a black suit with a black mask was running after him. In his hand was an FN 5’7. The man in black pursued him endlessly. When the Italian man stopped for shelter, he pulled out his gun from the pockets of his leather jacket and aimed at the man in black. “Rylan. Watch out,” Williams called in his ear. “Holy shit!” Rylan yelled on his breath as the man pointed the gun in his direction. Two shots were fired and Rylan managed to dodge the bullets before they could hit him. “Are you sure this is our guy?” Rylan asked. “Affirmative. Dominic De Rossi,” Williams replied through the comms. “I just hope you’re right.”“When have I ever been wrong?”Rylan rolled his eyes and fired back at Dominic. The shot whizzed past Dominic’s head and he scrambled to his feet immediately. Rylan saw this and decided to go after him. They were on the main stre

“They let you in?” Jain asked. “Of course they would.”Jain sighed and drank her cappuccino. They were both seated at a table in the cafe. It was at their favorite spot—the table by the window. It had been two days since Rylan had spoken to Frederick. He could still remember the shock on his face when he told him he had forgiven him. It wasn’t something that Frederick had expected. Frederick was aware that he despised him, but there was no need to keep that grudge anymore. The battle had been won. The best thing he could do now was move on and that was ok his agenda. Jain shook her head in disbelief. She was baffled that they would let Rylan into the prison to speak to Frederick McCullough. Well, he was Rylan Daystar. “So what did you tell him?”Rylan lifted his cup of cappuccino and took a sip from it. His eyes went to the parking lot outside the window. The morning sun washed all the cars there with its glorious light including his black Audi. “I told him that I forgave him.”Ja

When it arrived, a guard was waiting by the door who was heavily armed. He opened the door and stepped forward. This was the last thing on his bucket list before he could tag this mission as a success. They arrived at a room and the guard opened the door for Rylan. “I thought we were going to head back home?” Jain asked as they headed into their Airbnb. “Well, Los Angeles is a two-hour flight back, and my pilots are off duty for the night,” Rylan said, closing the door behind them. Jain sighed and rubbed her neck nervously. She couldn’t remember the last time she had been in a room alone with a man. That had been with Jacob; five years ago. Rylan took off his suit jacket and hung it on the cloth rag before folding his undershirt. “If this makes you uncomfortable I could get a different room for myself.”Jain turned to him. “You could do that?” She asked. “I mean, there’s no need for that.”Rylan arched an eyebrow at her as he folded his sleeve once more. “Okay. If you say so.”Jain nodded and proceeded to the fireplace. She was gazing at the crackling fire as she held her shoulders. It brought her soothing warmth. There was a center table in the small living room and on it was a bucket of ice with a bottle of champagne sitting in it. “Wou

The party was lavish. There were lots of special dignitaries who filled the scene. The paparazzi wouldn’t stop flashing their cameras at them. This was the biggest party in the city. It was an awards party which would explain why there were so many famous people. A black Lamborghini arrived at the scene and halted on the red carpet. The door lifted and a figure stepped out of the car. It was Rylan Daystar who was dressed in a charcoal black suit with floral patterns and a shawl which was tied at his waist. He looked like a Frenchman. He moved to the other side of the car and opened the door. A woman stepped out of the car all dressed in a white gown. It was Jain, and she had a new look. Her platinum blonde hair which was always long was cut short now making her look dangerously beautiful. Rylan smiled as he watched her close the door of the Lamborghini. Arlene raised an eyebrow at this. “Come in,” Rylan appeared to be speaking to the door until a figure stepped into the room.As Arlene saw the figure, she immediately flashed back. “Do you have jitters?” Detective Jain Reynolds asked. Rylan turned to surprise. “Of course not.”“Well, you’ve been talking about your thigh for the last two minutes.”“I’m just anxious.”Jain turned to him. “About what?”Rylan kept silent for a few minutes to think about it. “About this, I guess?”Jain scoffed at his words. “You’ve been in front of a crowd a million times. This is the same thing.”“Well not exactly. I’ve never been in front of a crowd filled with police officers.”Jain laughed at his words. “Rylan Daystar is being intimidated by a crowd of police officers. Who would have thought?”Rylan rolled his eyes and placed his hands before him. They were both standing in a room alone. In a few minutes, they would be taken outside to be handed the key to the city. Rylan wasn’t exactly sure why he was there. When Jain had first told him about this at the cafe? He quickly declined the offer. The city saw him as a hero. But he wasn’t. He had so many flaws that would prevent
