Without sparing another glance for Wilson and Amanda, May walked up to Adrian.
She playfully held his arm and looked up at him with a big smile, as if inviting Adrian to comment on how well she had done to defend him.
Shrugging casually, Adrian patted May's head indulgently and got into the Rolls Royce like a prince sitting on his throne.
Amanda couldn't believe her eyes as she watched the Rolls Royce disappear into the distance.
Wilson wasn't behaving any better; his jaws dropped and his eye almost popped out.
"You two fools just wait for the court notice. You can't get away without paying me compensation!"
Just then, an angry voice travelled into their ears.
Speechless, their eyes met the gaze of the driver whose car they had bumped into earlier.
Without uttering another word, the man shot the both of them a disdainful look before departing, leaving Amanda and Wilson feeling like fools.
Suddenly, Amanda asked Wilson, "Do you think this drama is simply a show? I bet Adrian was playing big by hiring that bitch to play a role. He must have spent all his savings hiring that car too, just to make me think he is wealthy and to regret divorcing!"
Hearing Amanda's words, Wilson's expression changed from dull to that of enlightened.
"You're right, honey! Adrian is just a poor loser, how can he turn into a tycoon overnight?
He must have hired that bitch and the car.
Besides, I wonder if it's a real Rolls Royce. Maybe it's just a cheap second-hand car modified into a Rolls Royce. How funny!"
Amanda burst into laughter at Wilson's suggestions.
"That's right. I'm sure the fool thought I would change my mind if he pretended to be rich," she chuckled.
Both Amanda and Wilson breathed in relief.
God knew how amazed and threatened they were when that bitch scolded them like a princess scolding her servants.
"Thank God!" Amanda rejoiced inwardly.
She almost fell for Adrian's little trick and wanted to get back together with him. Luckily, she realized in time that it was all fake, otherwise, she would have to go back to live a miserable life with that loser once again. How could she tolerate that?
"Even if he hired ten Rolls Royces, I wouldn't be foolish to fall for his deceit and go back to a life of penury."
*******
The following day, Adrian arrived at Hennessey Group. Having completed his one-year leave in Jolley City, he intended to resume his duties at the Sovereign Armada Military Force and thus he planned to resign from Hennessey Group.
Little did Adrian's colleagues at Hennessey Group, including Todd Brett, his general manager, and Todd's son, Wilson, know that Adrian was the owner of Hennessey Group.
Adrian had purchased the company a year ago upon arriving in Jolley City after marrying Amanda. However, he opted to keep a low profile, working at Hennessey Group in a humble position. His intention was to eventually pass Hennessey Group on to Amanda as a birthday gift, which was just a couple of days away.
However, since Amanda had divorced him, he had no intention to fulfill his plan.
Why would he?
Moreover, he saw no reason to continue working here, considering that the purpose for which he had pretended and lowered himself to work at Hennessey Group had been forfeited.
Just as soon as Adrian entered Hennessey company's reception, a burst of laughter and chuckles came from a corner of the room.
His colleagues had just arrived and were attempting to sign the time book.
Upon spotting Adrian, they shot him a look of disdain.
"Look who's here, the pa...u...per!" One of them spelled out in sarcasm, making the rest of them laugh heartily.
"Hey, I’ve always wondered how someone like you, trash and all, ended up working in a renowned and prestigious company like Hennessey Group. You honestly don't fit in here, you know?" Joe, one of the staff members, remarked with disdain.
"Maybe his beautiful wife helped," another chimed in mischievously, “after all, Wilson mounted his beautiful wife, probably that’s how this pauper bought his way through.”
“... by selling his wife,” Joe added.
“Hahaha ...” A burst of laughter arose immediately.
Adrian sighed inwardly.
Looked like throughout this time, his colleagues were all aware that Wilson Brett, the general manager's son, was dating Amanda, his wife. And that Amanda had been cheating him for some time so far.
However, they remained indifferent to the situation and none of them chose to inform him.
"And that's probably why his wife wanted a divorce."
“If I were his wife, I would have dumped him long ago. I can’t believe that his wife tolerated him for so long. What a nice woman she is! I feel sorry for her suffering. Luckily, all the suffering is finally over!”
A female colleague said passionately. "Congratulations to the Pauper’s Wife! May she be wealthy and happy with Wilson!” She cheered and others followed, as if they were celebrating Amanda’s cheating and her divorce from Adrian.
Adrian didn’t need to ask to know that Wilson and Amanda had told everyone about their divorce.
Adrian’s lips curved into a cold sneer but he remained focused on writing his resignation letter.
He didn’t mind their mockery.
After all, he was their boss without them knowing, not to mention that he was also the youngest General ever and the Lord of the Sovereign Armada Military Force.
This meant, if he wanted, he could fire these people right away.
To him, they were no better than bugs.
And bugs with limited knowledge and experience could never comprehend things beyond their understanding.
Unfazed, Adrian completed his resignation letter and began gathering his belongings from his office table.
One of his colleagues observed him arrange his items and sneered at him, drawing attention from others.
"Hahaha... the pauper is getting all worked up and packing his bags. Feeling like disappearing into a hole, huh?" the colleague mocked, inciting laughter from the rest.
The laughter abruptly ceased as Todd Brett, the general manager of Hennessey Group, walked in.
