Chapter Twenty Five

Linda lay in her room with her eyes fixed on the ceiling as her back hugged the wall. She could hear her mom and James talking and laughing heartily like their whole lives depended on it.

She could not stop wondering what was so funny. They had turned her into a shadow of her former self, and everyone else seemed to have moved on. She wished that she didn't listen to them at all.

She was still contemplating how life would have turned out if she had waited a little longer when she heard a knock on her door. She stood up and walked towards the door.

Linda opened the door and met James standing there. He had a neutral look on his face, so Linda could not guess what was going on in his head.

"Someone is here to see you," James informed her. "He's from the Floater's..."

Linda's heart sank when she heard the Floater's family, and she didn't wait for James to finish what he had to say before she stormed out of her room. James sighed and followed behind her.
