Chapter two

Ella met Jackson in front of the magistrate court. She was as beautiful as ever, dressed in a fancy blouse and plain black skirt. Her face was contorted in a frown as she saw Jackson on the staircase, waiting for her.

"Don't tell me you've changed your mind about this, I'm not willing to waste one more day of my life with a man like you." She mocked, pulled off her sunglasses, and glared at him.

Jackson simply stared at her with a pitiful frown, wondering if she had any idea what had changed.

"Are you sure you want us to divorce?" He asked and Ella scoffed rudely, asking him if she had anything to lose.

"I'm just trying to be sure that this is what you want, Ella, it isn't too late for us to change our mind about this divorce." He said.

"And why would I do that?" She asked pointedly, her eyes fixated on him, almost daring him to remind her of why she should stay.

Almost forced to tell her why, Jackson decided against it and rather shook his head, "Never mind." He replied.

"I thought so too, I won't miss being with you, Jackson, don't flatter yourself, there's nothing to think twice about," Ella snapped and walked past him, enter the courtroom.

In the court, Ella's colleagues and friends had shown up and they all laughed at Jackson as he rose and stood before the Judge.

Ella stepped out impatiently and couldn't wait to get it done.

"Since you have no children, there is no need for a custody agreement, however, have you both discussed the sharing of properties?" The Judge asked.

"I don't want anything from this man," Ella said with a flick of her wrist like he was worth nothing.

The Judge nodded but Jackson couldn't accept that, "If she truly doesn't want any properties shared, I would love her to sign this document to prove that." He said.

"Do not waste our time, there are no properties except that old Ford you drive and I am not interested in that scrape of metal." She replied.

"Humor me and sign it then." Jackson insisted.

Ella frowned at him, wondering what he was worried over, after all, she was sure he had nothing.

"What are you on about? You and I know you have nothing to your name, what could I possibly want to share with you?" She asked, smirking at him.

"Just to be sure," Jackson said and handed her a document for her to sign.

Ella grabbed it and signed without any hesitation, "Don't waste my time, Jackson, you know you have nothing, stop causing a show for the court." She said mockingly.

The Judge rose and declared that the hearing was officially over and they were legally divorced.

"You can go ahead and have your cheap and unambitious life with someone else who can tolerate that, I can't stand it. Goodbye, Jackson."

Ella rushed out of the court, eager to show off her new man to the crowd. A fancy saloon car drove and parked before her and a man stepped out.

Jackson almost gasped at the shock. The man was unsightly. However, Ella hugged him openly and allowed his hands to remain on her lower back. She turned to see Jackson staring at them in shock but she misunderstood his expression, thinking he was jealous, not knowing that Jackson was merely surprised at why she'd chosen such an ugly man.

"This is Alexander Wills, he is a very rich man, but of course, you wouldn't know that, you are not in his class."  She said and pecked the man who was smiling from cheek to cheek, still, it did not make his features look any better.

"He's your choice?" Jackson asked with a blank expression.

"He's twice the man you'll ever be, he's smart, he's ambitious and he's rich," Ella said and the man nodded eagerly.

"It's a shame that with all of your good looks you still can't keep your wife, it's pointless." The man laughed openly at him and pulled Ella even closer to his side.

"Alexander here is from a very rich and influential family, his father owns a lot of successful businesses in this city, he has several cars, he has countless  apartments all over the city and he can afford the things you could never get for me." She said and then waved her new handbag in his face.

"That's the latest bag and she had it without working hard," Alexander and hugged Ella again.

"I told you, Jackson, I told you I deserve someone better and I'm glad you're here to see that I have been wasting and slaving away with a man like yourself when Alexander could have made my life happier and better." She said proudly and pecked him again, just to hurt Jackson.

But Jackson was not hurt or jealous, he was instead disgusted at their PDA and the man she decided to go out with right after divorcing him. Alexander looked nothing like him and he certainly was not the gentleman that Ella believed he was. He moved away from them just as an SUV arrived at the parking lot of the court.

And Jackson’s phone rang.

“Hey boss, why you’re here at the court? I thought you must be celebrating with your wife...” Pamela asked with confusion on the phone.

“I don’t have a wife now, she divorced me because I’m poor...she found a new guy who could afford an expensive car.” Jackson made a wry smile.

“What? Which one is his car? I don’t believe his car is better than mine!” Pamela was shocked, she couldn’t believe what Ella did.

Jackson pointed at Alexander’s car, “That’s it...”

Pamela looked at Alexander’s car and sneered, “They called that one an ‘expensive car’? Wait for me!”

She started the car engine, and the loud sound attracted the attention of those around her.

"Ah, I know that car, it's a limited edition luxury SUV!" A passerby said.

Someone who had previously praised Alexander's car also exclaimed, "This car is ten times more expensive than that car! The owner of this car is really rich!"

"That car is worth over 1 million dollars, I love it," Ella said and tiptoed to get a better view.

“1 million dollars? You’re ignorant, it’s worth 5 million!” Another passerby mocked Ella.

Ella felt so embarrassed, she took a glance at that passerby and said arrogantly, “So what? My husband will buy me that SUV right away too, am I right, darling?”

Alexander’s face changed. In fact, this car worth 500,000 US dollars was the best his father could give him. His family couldn't afford a 5 million US dollars luxury car.

He said with embarrassment, "I am a very low-key person, I would never show off myself by purchasing cars."

Ella felt unhappy, she thought Alexander would always satisfy her demands, but now she was rejected?

“Oh look, that SUV came to us! It would be a great honor if I could know its owner!” A passerby said.

Ella smiled arrogantly, “The owner must come here because of my husband! He is a real rich man too!”

Alexander smiled, he thought Ella was right. If that car wasn't coming for him, then who could it be for?

Anyway it can’t be coming for Ella’s loser ex-husband!

However, when it came closer and closer, people found it shockingly that the SUV didn’t hit the brakes!

“What’s the driver doing? Ran away!” People screamed.

But the SUV was not aiming at the crowed, instead, it aimed to Alexander’s car.

Bang!

After a loud noise, Alex's car was smashed into pieces, but the SUV was not destroyed at all.

“Now I know why it’s worth 5 million...” The passerby were all shocked.
