Xavier, with his eyes shut in sleep, felt a light tapping on his arm.
He rolled over to face the other side of the couch he had fallen asleep on but started feeling a tug instead. He squinted his eyes and looked behind him only to find his wife sitting on the same couch and holding his job applications in her hand.Xavier sat up immediately, looking shocked to see her and partially wondering if it was a dream."Kelanie? You're... You're here?" he asked in disbelief, sorry written all over her face as she nodded quietly."About those papers... I tried. I tried my best to look for a proper job throughout yesterday but..." In the middle of Xavier's words, Kelanie rushed to hug him, cutting off his words in the process.Kelanie's sudden embrace caught Xavier off guard, but he reciprocated, wrapping his arms around her tightly."Did something bad happen? Why the hug all of a sudden? Are you alright?" to say Xavier was confused was, to say the least. Kelanie had never behaved this way with him before.Kelanie pulled away slightly, her eyes searching his face. "I needed some time alone to think," she admitted softly. "I've been feeling overwhelmed lately, and I needed space to sort things out."Xavier just kept looking at her. He couldn't believe she was even capable of speaking that way."I want to apologize for everything. For the insults, the abuse... Everything. Can you find it in your heart to forgive me?" Kelanie placed her hand on Xavier's and he gulped, wondering if she'd been hit by lightning or something."Why are you being so nice to me?" Xavier asked in disbelief.Kelanie smiled. That smile always seemed to put a stop to Xavier's heart for a passing moment. A smile he hasn't seen for a really long time."I just want to be a better wife to you. My parents advised me on the issue and I saw that I've been in the wrong." Kelanie explained. Those words seemed very suspicious. Weren't her parents the same people who insulted and had him thrown out just yesterday?Xavier was hesitant to believe, but that was until Kelanie's lips crashed against his in a passionate kiss. Every suspicion in his head miraculously washed away the moment he felt her lips.Xavier melted into the kiss, his mind swirling confusion and longing. As their lips parted, he stared into Kelanie's eyes as if he wasn't sure it was his wife in front of him."I'm willing to do whatever it takes to make things right." She leaned in, resting her forehead against his, their breaths mingling in the quiet room.Xavier closed his eyes, letting himself savour the moment of closeness.Despite the doubts lingering in his mind, he couldn't deny the feeling of hope he didn't want to let go of. Maybe, just maybe, this could be the beginning of a new chapter for them both.On the same day, Kelanie cooked and had a romantic dinner with Xavier and he was happy for the first time in a long time. After the romantic dinner, Kelanie decided to finally be serious with Xavier on something important."Okay, now for the big news I've got for you," she said, making Xavier even more eager to hear about it."I got you a job offer!" she announced excitedly and a smile crept up on Xavier's face seeing his wife that way."Here are the documents. Once you sign them, you will become the secretary of a rich and powerful man. Finally, all our problems will be solved!" Kelanie explained, giving Xavier the documents and a pen.Xavier accepted it from her and was about to read through but Kelanie frowned at him, "What's that supposed to mean? You don't trust me to give you something legit?""I-""I went through all this trouble just for you. Do you know, the man you saw me with yesterday was only filling me in on the details about the work? We were looking through it together. What will all that effort mean to my husband if he has to go through it again?" Kelanie complained, crossing her arms and pouting."I'm sorry. I didn't know." Xavier replied, trying not to upset his wife. Seeing this side of her made him happy and he didn't want to lose it."Come on now," Xavier touched Kelanie's cheek, trying to make her smile."Alright, I won't read it. I trust my wife." Xavier chuckled and Kelanie's face loosened up."Really?" she said, looking at him with wide eyes."Yes," Xavier answered.Kelanie squealed and hugged him tight. She moved closer to Xavier and began pointing out all the empty spaces meant for him to sign.Blinded by his wife's affection, Xavier happily signed whatever she pointed at and handed her the papers.Kelanie only took one of the documents and gave Xavier the rest.Seeing the confusion on Xavier's face, she explained, "I and the man from yesterday are still working on this particular part. You can hand over the rest to your new boss." she smiled.Xavier's heart swelled with gratitude and a sense of relief. Perhaps things were finally turning around for them and it was all because of his wife. The same woman he was scared of losing."I knew you'd never leave me." he voiced unknowingly.Kelanie turned to him with a smile on her face and he got up to hug her, "I love you so much." he said. After what felt like ages, Kelanie replied, "I love you too."Everything felt like a dream."That's enough for one night. Let's go to sleep. I'll clean everything up tomorrow morning. I feel so tired." Kelanie lightly pushed Xavier away."Alright," Xavier picked Kelanie up in bridal style and she almost screamed from the surprise."What are you doing?!" she asked as she moved her legs about, trying to make him put her down."Going to the room. Aren't we going the same way? Might as well carry my queen there." Xavier smiled. He felt so happy. He now has a good job and a happy wife. These two things he longed for so desperately since he lost his company. As the morning light filtered through the curtains, Xavier stirred from his sleep, the remnants of dreams fading as reality seeped in. The muffled sound of his wife's voice reached his ears, tinged with an edge of nervousness that pricked at his senses. With a yawn, Xavier rolled out of bed, rubbing the sleep from his eyes before padding towards the source of the conversation.Kelanie's hushed tones ceased abruptly as he entered the room, a guilty expression flitting across her features which she hurriedly turned into an innocent smile as she quickly terminated the call. "Good morning, love." Kelanie greeted Xavier as she rushed to hug him, "How was your night?""So yesterday wasn't a dream? It happened that my wife took care of me?" Xavier joked only to get a small pinch on his ear from Kelanie, hearing her giggle as well."You haven't answered my question," she said, leaning left and right with the hug and forcing Xavier to go along with it."Wonderful, I slept next to my beautif
As Xavier fumbled with the new clothes, hastily trying to put them on before the butler returned, the door creaked open, and the butler's presence made him instinctively shield himself."Sir, you're needed in the kitchen," the butler stated matter-of-factly before promptly shutting the door behind him.Stunned by the unusual request, Xavier couldn't shake the feeling that something wasn't right. He wanted to tell the butler that he didn't have any time for this. He is a secretary. What concerns him with the work done in the kitchen? Nothing that has happened so far made any sense to him.Xavier made his way to the kitchen as he was told, his mind racing with questions and suspicions. As he entered the bustling room, he noticed an air of tension among the staff. "Why are they looking at me like that? Is there something in my face?" he thought to himself as he walked passed them, ignoring the curious glances directed his way. Xavier approached the head chef, who seemed to be in the m
Xavier stood face to face with the butler, his heart pounding with a mixture of confusion and apprehension. The butler's stoic demeanor was enough to send a chill down Xavier's spine, but it was his intense tone that truly unnerved him.'You cannot leave.' the words echoed in Xavier's thoughts. What exactly was that supposed to mean? Xavier looked shockingly at the butler as he demanded answers. "Why?" he pleaded, but the butler's lips remained sealed, citing his position."You cannot leave," the butler repeated, his voice low and commanding, the words hanging heavy in the air like an ominous warning.Xavier's mind raced, trying to make sense of the cryptic statement. Why was he being detained? What had he done to warrant such confinement? The questions swirled in his mind, but the butler remained frustratingly silent."Why?" Xavier demanded once again, his voice tinged with desperation. He searched the butler's impassive face for any sign of explanation but found none.Frustration b
The morning light filtered weakly through the curtains as Xavier sat on the edge of his bed, trying to collect the shattered pieces of his world. He refused to come out to work that day.His phone lay dead in his hand, drained from countless calls to his wife, each one met with silence or dismissal. As he sat there lost in his thoughts, the door creaked open, and his boss stepped in, his presence an unwelcome intrusion. The concern in his eyes clashed with the cold aura that surrounded him, leaving Xavier unsure of what to make of the man before him."Are you alright?" the old man inquired, his voice a thin thread in the suffocating silence.Xavier's gaze remained fixed on some distant point, his mind reeling with questions and disbelief. Finally, Xavier found his voice, though it trembled with emotion. "How could you do this?"The boss's silence was damning, but eventually, he offered a confession that sent a chill down Xavier's spine. "I thought you knew. No one signs these things
As Xavier returned to the mansion with the guards, a heavy sadness weighed on him, making each step feel like a burden. His heart raced as he replayed the events in his mind. Despite the grandeur of the mansion, it felt empty, void of the warmth he craved.Xavier's grip tightened on his phone as his new friend, Henry, one of the guards who tried to comfort him today, walked into his room."Are you okay, Xavier?" Henry asked softly, concern etched in his features as he glanced at Xavier's tense posture.Xavier's throat felt tight as he struggled to find words, the betrayal still raw in his mind. "How could I be? At first, I thought she only sold me. Today, I found out from her parents that she divorced me. Still, today she was nowhere to be found. I don't know what to do," he admitted, his voice barely audible.Henry sighed, placing a comforting hand on Xavier's shoulder. "It's going to be okay," he reassured him."I just want to see her again. I want to hear her side of the story. Wh
Xavier couldn't comprehend the old man's response. Why would he punish Alexander for assaulting him, yet not allow him to leave despite the abuse he endured? The confusion gnawed at him as he lay in the hospital bed, grappling with the injustice of it all. It was his second day in the hospital and he was finally going to be discharged.***As Xavier prepared to leave the hospital, he was met with the presence of Henry and other guards waiting at the exit. Catching sight of Xavier, they all bowed and greeted him. Xavier was confused. Why would they suddenly treat him with that much respect out of nowhere?"What's going on here?" Xavier asked Henry aside."Even I don't know but Master said we should treat you this way. We do not want to lose our jobs." Henry answered, nervously scratching the back of his head.Xavier was surprised even more to see one of the old man's cars waiting for him outside. Henry opened the back door and Xavier got in while staring at everyone like something w
The dining room fell silent as the old man's words hung in the air. "I have an announcement to make," he said, his voice carrying a weight that commanded attention. Xavier, still processing why he was seated at the table for what seemed like a family affair, glanced around the room, catching the gaze of Clarissa and Alexander which hinted at their very dislike of his presence at the table. Then, with a gravity that stunned everyone, the old man declared, "I have found my lost son." Confusion swept through the room, and Xavier, who heard a noise like steel against the floor, turned to Clarissa, who dropped her cutlery in shock."What?! How?!" she stammered, her expression betraying a mixture of fear and guilt. Xavier's unease deepened. Should he be seated with them at a moment like this? Heck! He shouldn't even be seated there at all.Xavier turned to the old, ready to excuse himself from the table, but before he could let out a single word, the old man spoke again."Yes. Believe me
In the cosy living room of Kelanie's parents' home, she sat on a two-sitter couch with her fiancé, Stephen and her parents seated on two separate couches. There were wedding invitation cards spread across the tables which Kelanie was being indecisive on."What about this one?" Mrs Jenkins suggested, picking up a red wedding card with rose designs all over, "It's quite nice and red roses have to do with love. Am I correct?" she smiled."You're right but no, not that one. I feel the roses are a bit too much," Kelanie replied then turned to her husband who had been on his phone for a while now, "don't you think so, honey?" she asked, showing Stephen the card."Huh?" Stephen lifted his eyes from his phone screen, "What? Oh, yes. Yes! Whatever you say. You make the best decisions dear." he agreed immediately, not sure what Kelanie had asked about."We are picking out wedding invitation cards for you and my daughter, don't you think you could at least give this a bit of attention?"
