Chapter three

Three days have gone by since the confrontation with Jason, and still there were no unwanted visitors or sudden accidents.

Erica did not know if she should be happy or scared because Jason was not a man who stays quiet when insulted.

She was happy because today is the day that the bandages will be removed, and she will know If she was really healed as her saviour, whose name she now knows to be Sullivan, had told her, After waiting with bated breath, she could not stand the suspense any longer, so she went to look for Sullivan.

She met him in the sitting room, discussing with some people, so she went back to her room. She knew he was someone important because of the calibre of people who came to visit him and the respect they accorded him; no wonder he could stand against Jason Jabs! She thought.

But the way he saved her and treated her made her believe he knew her, but the question was, 'Where?'.

Sullivan noticed her when she entered the sitting room, but she quickly retreated upon seeing that he was with guests. He smiled at her wisdom, and when he was done with his meeting, he went to her room.

"Hello, Erica." He greeted me cheerfully.

"Hello."

"I saw you come into the sitting room earlier; I was with guests." He explained.

"No worries, I was just kind of restless since I have not heard anything about Jason Jabs since the day you saved me, so I wanted to know if you have gotten any information from him."

"Oh, that, don't worry, I have not heard from him either." Sullivan replied.

"Hmm, that's strange, because considering the kind of person Jason is, he is not one to sit this out quietly. I am sure he is planning something evil." Erica said.

"You don't have to worry; so long as you are with me, you are safe." Sullivan reassured her.

"So, about the bandages, you said my injuries would be gone in three days, and today is the last day, so can I remove the bandages now?"

"Yes, why not? Let me help you with it."

Sullivan carefully unwrapped the bandages on her face and legs. True to his words, all the scars had disappeared completely.

"Woww, my face is back to normal!" She screamed joyfully

. "Yes, it's good as new." Sullivan was also happy for her.

"Thank you so much, Mr. Sullivan; I am indebted to you." She said it in appreciation. Her voice was unstable, as she was almost close to tears.

"It's ok; you don't have to do anything." Sullivan assured her.

He knew she had forgotten that she saved him three years ago, and he was also not ready to tell her either. All he ever wanted was to pay her back for her kindness.

Erica, on the other hand, was not satisfied; she wanted to repay him and was thinking of a way to do so when an idea came to her mind.

"Before you crashed the party, Jason apparently intended to arrange my marriage to one of those individuals present," Sullivan recalled.

"Ok." Sullivan was sceptical because he did not know where the conversation was heading.

"So, do you have a wife, fiancée, or girlfriend?" Erica asked.

"No, not yet." Sullivan answered.

"Good! Then I will be your wife!" She exclaimed.

"What?" Sullivan was shocked. "Yes, I will be your wife; that will be my payment to you, and besides, I still don't trust Jason, so I will still be in need of your protection." She explained.

After giving it some thought, Sullivan finally agreed. Erica wanted them to get married immediately, and Sullivan happily agreed.

They went to the registry and registered their marriage. After the registration, Erica told Sullivan that she wanted them to visit her family villa, and he agreed.

When they got to the house, her mother was the one who opened the door, and she was shocked when she saw Erica. She hugged her and happily ushered Erica and Sullivan inside the house.

When they entered the house, not everyone was happy that she was back. They were all afraid of what Jason was going to do to the rest of the family members.

"Why did you leave Erica?" Bella, Erica's cousin, asked.

"I don't understand. Do you expect me to remain with Jason?" Erica asked, shocked.

"Yes, you should have remained with him; at least the rest of us would have been safe!" Bella said, livid.

"Bella!" Erica screamed. "Do you know that he wanted to marry me off to one of the beggars and homeless people in the city?"

"And so?" Bella asked sarcastically. "Are they not human beings?"

"Bella, this is not fair!" Erica said she was already close to tears.

"What is not fair is that you are endangering the rest of us because of your selfishness!"

"Erica, you have to go back to Jason, apologise to him, and accept his punishment!" One of the elders in the family said,

"I can't go back to Jason; I am already legally married to Sullivan here." Erica pointed it out.

"What!!!" Everyone shouted.

The news made them all angry, and they began to hurl insults at her. They called her all sorts of names, and she was close to tears. Sullivan, at this point, could not take it any longer; he became angry at them.

"You guys are unbelievable! How can you treat her like this? Besides,  she suffered unjustly at the hands of that Jason. At this point, you should stand by her and offer your support! But instead, you guys are telling her to go back to that jerk! This is not right!" Sullivan said it angrily.

“Will you take charge if their family takes revenge on us? We’ll all be buried with you!”

“Do you think you could appease their anger? You will get us all killed!”

Everyone started to accuse the girl; she was about to cry.

“Enough!” Sullivan shouted; he couldn’t take the words anymore. “I’ll solve the problem by tomorrow.”
