Chapter 5: Lost His Life

Patient's name:

Juliana Kurt Hangrill.

Disease:

Leaky heart disease.

Total Cost of Treatment (Surgery, Medicine, Outpatient, and Intensive Hospital):

$22,694.85

Patient Status:

Died at 09:12 pm.

Aarav's heart sank after getting a notification paper from the hospital. Aarav froze on the spot while holding the history data of the patient who is none other than his mother.

"We have tried to perform an operation to save the patient's illness, but because the operation was carried out beyond the maximum day limit so that the patient's heart condition was getting weaker, the patient could no longer be saved."

Aarav doesn't know what to say. His gaze lingered on the caption 'dead' under the patient's status. Guilt hit his heart because he remembered the warning the doctor gave him last month.

"Seeing that his condition was quite severe, we had to perform surgery on the patient."

"But I don't have the money to pay for the operation yet. Is there still a chance for me to make some extra money?"

"Actually... surgery for the patient must be carried out immediately. However, we can give it two weeks. The patient's heart condition is chronic."

The memory of the conversation between him and the doctor who treated his mother's condition plays in Aarav's head. Aarav thinks two weeks time will not be enough to collect that amount of money. However, he still forced himself to apply for a loan.

Now, Aarav has to accept an incident that really hurts him.

Juliana, his mother, died. Failed to survive surgery for leaky heart disease.

Aarav felt his body go limp instantly after just being frozen. His back immediately leaned against the wall, crumpling the notification paper from the Hospital. He felt his heart being stabbed by sharp thorns.

"I'm sorry for the death of the patient, your mother. Before the operation took place, your mother had said that she wanted to see you."

Aarav's heart grew congested hearing the doctor's words. Aarav vividly remembers today was his mother's surgery schedule. However, due to the incident of false accusations that forced him to stay behind bars in a prison cell, Aarav was unable to come to the hospital.

'No, this is not what I expected' Aarav thought. 'Why couldn't mom hold on until I came?'

The doctor in front of Aarav gave him a tap on the shoulder, twice. Then, with an expression full of regret, the doctor walked away.

Aarav bows his head. Slowly, his limp body then slumped and sat down resignedly. He put his hands together, piled on top of his bent legs. His face sank, he didn't want to show it to the people passing by in this corridor.

The longer, the feeling of guilt in Aarav's heart is getting worse. Aarav suddenly imagined the look on Juliana's face the last time they met. He still remembered Juliana's warm smile at that time, even though it was very pale.

What if Aarav doesn't get false accusations? What if Aarav could visit his mother, see at the last moment, instead of languishing behind bars in a prison cell?

Aarav's grip on the hospital notice grew tighter. Aarav feels he doesn't have enough space in his heart to accept that his mother can't survive.

Part of his heart, Aarav blamed the party that gave him false accusations.

Another part of his heart, Aarav just wants to turn back time, just to witness Juliana's last moments.

However, his wish could not come true.

Aarav really can't see Juliana anymore.

"Sorry, sir, the total cost of your mother's treatment and surgery has been paid off."

Amidst his chaotic thoughts, Aarav looks at the hospital administrative staff in surprise. Wait, what did he just hear? Aarav feels his sense of hearing is being disturbed.

"What?" Aarav frowned in disbelief. "Already paid?"

The hospital administrative staff immediately nodded their heads. Knowing that Aarav was unsure, he repeatedly looked at the computer screen and Aarav.

"Yes. Patient payments on behalf of Juliana have already been paid by someone. He did not mention his name, but he said he knew you quite well."

Aarav stays silent. It took him a split second to digest the words of the administration staff in front of him.

"Wait. Someone who doesn't want to be named? When will that person settle the payment?" Aarav tries to make sure.

The administration staff nodded again. "That's right. In a moment, I'll first check the payment of patient payments on behalf of Juliana..." For a moment, the administrative staff was seen reading the information on the computer screen. "He paid at eleven o'clock two hours after patient Juliana died."

During the silence, Aarav tried to think who would pay such a large payment. He didn't feel like asking for someone's help at all, even his mother was an only child. Aarav didn't have many people he knew to be able to pay that kind of money.

"Oh, and that person also left a message for me, he will meet you." Administrative staff provide additional explanations.

"Meet me?" asked Aarav. "Where?"

"He didn't give me a place, date, or time."

"That is it?"

"Correct."

"Can you tell me its characteristics?" asked Aarav. His tone was urgent.

For a moment, the administrative staff looked doubtful. But in the end he replied, "Sorry, I couldn't see his face clearly because he was wearing a round hat and had his head down. Half of his face was covered. His clothes were formal from top to bottom."

"Only that?"

"Yes," replied the administration staff. "His body is taller than you."

Aarav took a deep breath. After giving a thanking gesture to the administrative staff, Aarav then walked away. For some reason, even though he felt calm because the payment business was finished, Aarav's heart couldn't stop being angry.

He was acquitted of the false accusations and his mother's treatment and surgery costs were paid off. Those two things are too impossible for someone to do, because the costs and risks are not small.

As Aarav walks away from the administrative area, he remembers the letter the Chief Warden gave him. Then, Aarav hastily took out the letter from his trouser pocket. For a moment he felt fortunate that he had not thrown the letter away.

Aarav opened the crumpled letter again. Read briefly.

The person who wrote this letter told him to come to the hospital. And this person also knew about his mother's condition.

Was it really the same person who paid for her mother's treatment payments who acquitted her of false accusations?

Who exactly is an anonymous person doing all this?

Just as Aarav has to face the confusion, the sound of a notification message on the phone is heard.

After Aarav woke up from his reverie, he then took out his cell phone. There was a pop up notification display which Aarav read for a few moments making his brows furrowed.

[Seadolt Washlon Company has sent $1,000,000 to your bank account]

Aarav glares in surprise. Feeling disbelieving, he immediately opened the message notification to make sure it was clearer.
