The Brighton Family In Chaos

"My excellent son is finally home," Lady Gaga said with a smile as Kay walked into the living room. The entire family was gathered there waiting for his arrival.

Lady Gaga had even ordered the maids to prepare delicious delicacies to celebrate her son's success. In her mind, the contract will elevate their status in the eyes of others.

Kay stood in front of the Brighton family with a stiff smile.

Lady Gaga and the rest of the family were confused on seeing his expression. They were all waiting for the good news but Kay had walked in here looking gloomy.

Did something happen at the Wellington's company?

Did the chairman reject the contract?

"Kay, what's wrong?" Lady Gaga asked impatiently. "Wasn't the contract signed successfully?"

"We weren't awarded the contract," Kay muttered. "The chairman didn't like it."

Lady Gaga raised a brow. The board themselves had approved the proposal and even called it one of their best. She also went through it and felt it was good.

What were the chairman's requirements that he would reject such a good proposal?

"What were his reasons?" One of Kay's cousins asked.

"He said it was good enough but Abraham won't give the reason as to why he rejected it," Kay sighed, glancing at Lily who was standing at a corner with her family.

"He said it was good enough and still rejected it, what does this mean?" Lady Gaga asked, furrowing her wrinkedbeyebrows deeply. "Could it be that the chairman is targeting both the Daniels and us for no reason?"

Lady Gaga was well advanced in age and she knew all the tricks that businessmen played. First, the Daniels had a fall out with the Wellingtons over a project that was going smoothly before the chairman came on seat and now, their contract proposal was rejected.

"It's all Lily's fault," Kay yelled angrily.

Lily was surprised. She didn't expect Kay to pin this on her head. "What do you mean by that uncle? I wasn't even there with you when you went to submit the proposal so how is it my fault?"

"You were the one who wrote it, isn't it?" He sneered.

Lily swallowed, nodding slowly. She had written the proposal and was going to submit it to the board but Lady Gaga had collected it from her after reading it and gave it to her uncle under the pretext of going through it more.

To her surprise, Kay submitted it to the board members and when they gave their positive reviews, he took all the credits forgetting that she was the one who took great pains to come up with it.

"Then you must have done something to it to make the chairman not to like it anymore!" Kay fumed.

"Stop defaming me! That's not true. Ever since you took away the proposal from me and presented it to the board, I haven't laid my hands on it so how could I tamper with it?" Lily asked, tearing up. She couldn't stand being bullied by her uncle.

First, he took all the credits and now he's trying to pin all the blames on her.

"Are you trying to say that my father is lying?" Diana asked, walking towards her. "Who knows, maybe you slept with the chairman and coaxed him into rejecting the contract."

"Diana, stop talking nonsense!" Lily snapped. "No one has seen the chairman before so could I have slept with him?"

"Oh please! We all know how despicable you are!" Diana snarled. "First, you slept your way up to Eric's bed and now that his family has gone bankrupt you decided to find a way into the chairman's bed and let him embarrass my father!"

"How dare you speak to my daughter in that manner!" Margret bellowed, raising her hand to strike her.

"That's enough!" Lady Gaga ordered. "I'm still seated here and none of you could even accord me respect?"

"Sorry grandma."

Lady Gaga sighed and leaned against her chair. "Lily, do you have anything to do with this?" She asked, staring at her intensely.

"Grandma, you have to believe me. Kay locked the file away from me and I had no means of getting hold of it to tamper with it besides why would I want to tamper with it? This was our family's hope of getting a high status, I wouldn't want to jeopardise that after all I was the one who wrote it."

Lily seemed to have given a compelling reply as Lady Gaga was plunged into her thoughts once more.

"Hmph, this can't just be coincidence. Lily, you would go back to the company and resubmit the proposal. After all you were the one who wrote it so you would definitely do better in explaining it."

Lily brightened up with a smile. "Thank you so much grandma. I won't let you down."

She glanced at her parents who were also filled with happiness and shock. Lady Gaga had given Lily a huge opportunity, seems she was beginning to trust her.

"Mother, how can you give the proposal to Lily? What if she messes it up again?" Kay grumbled.

"Be quiet!"
