Chapter 6

Fiona was shocked by the sudden outburst of the man but she still refused to come out of the car.

"If you are not here for me, then who did you come to pick?" Fiona asked stubbornly.

"I came to pick up a Mr. Gerald." The man explained.

Fiona on hearing Gerald's name burst into laughter. The man was surprised by her sudden laughter and could not help but wonder if something was wrong with her.

"And why are you laughing?" The man asked Fiona.

"I think there is a mistake somewhere because the person you are claiming that you were sent to pick up is an ex-convict! I mean he just came out of prison!" Fiona told the man.

Fiona could not bring herself to believe that Gerald who just came out of prison would be picked up by a fleet of luxurious cars.

The man got tired of Fiona's complaints and asked her to show him Gerald. Fiona still thinking that everything was a prank pointed at Gerald.

The man walked up to Gerald who had been watching the scene with an amused face.

"Good day sir, my name is John." The man introduced himself to Gerald.

"Good day," Gerald replied.

"I want to believe that I am speaking to Mr. Gerald," John said.

"Yes, I am Gerald," Gerald answered.

John bowed his head in respect to Gerald.

"Please forgive me for the delay sir but Mr. Wellington asked me to bring you to him," John said.

Gerald knew that the old man was Mr. Wellington because that was the name that was written on the black card.

"It's okay, I understand," Gerald answered.

"Please sir, come to the car with me." John stretched his hands towards the car.

Gerald smiled and walked to the car. John got there to see that Fiona was still sitting inside the car with her mother and he got angry.

"I asked you to leave this car! You are not the person I came to pick up." John insisted.

Fiona was reluctant to accept the reality as the whole scenario was looking like a dream to her.

"I insist that there must be a mistake somewhere! You need to call Mr. Wellington in my presence to confirm who he asked you to pick up." Fiona whined.

"That would be a waste of time," John said.

"I do not care! Don't you know who I am? I am the CEO of a listed company!" Fiona revealed.

Fiona thought that revealing her identity as the CEO of a listed company would make John change his mind but the reverse was the case as John was prepared to pull her out of the car.

"You are not qualified to speak with Mr. Wellington so I will advise you to get out of the car else I will pull you out myself." John threatened.

He was already running out of patience and it was obvious that Fiona was not ready to relinquish her claim to the car.

Fiona's face reddened with shame and humiliation. She beckoned to her mother and they both quickly came out of the car.

John brought out a small towel and used it to wipe off the place where Fiona and her mother had sat down.

When he was done, he respectfully beckoned on Gerald to get into the car.

The reporters who had witnessed everything began to take pictures of Gerald as he entered the car.

Gerald entered the car and they drove off.

The people started gossiping about Fiona and discussing what had just happened.

"Oh, poor lady." One of them said.

"She must have thought the fleet of cars was here for her." Another said.

"How embarrassing! If I were in her shoes, I would wish the ground to open and swallow me." Another person chipped in.

Fiona could hardly contain her embarrassment. She was looking for a means of escape when a brand new expensive car stopped in front of her.

Ivan came out of the car with excitement as he went to meet Fiona.

"I just got this car and it's very expensive." He announced to her as soon as he came down from the car.

The car was beautiful and expensive but it paled in comparison to the fleet of cars that just took Gerald away and that memory alone got Fiona angry.

Ivan tried to hug her but she shifted backwards.

"What is it, Fiona?" Ivan asked, surprised at the change in her attitude towards him.

"You came late!" Fiona said.

"I'm sorry about that dear, I would have arrived sooner but the fleet of cars blocked my way." He tried to explain. "I believe someone rented them." He added.

Fiona bought the idea and believed that Gerald had rented the car to show off and pretend to be rich.

She told Ivan what had happened and Ivan also believed that Gerald had rented the car to make Fiona jealous.

"He is a sore loser!" Fiona said.

Ivan noticed that Fiona was angry so he decided to look for a way to cheer her up.

"Please enter the car, let me take you to the Metro Hotel for dinner to celebrate your divorce from that loser," Ivan suggested and Fiona smiled.

While in the expensive car, Gerald asked John where they were going to meet Mr. Wellington.

"I'm taking you to the Metro Hotel," John answered.
