Chapter 5

Melvis arrived at Charles' company. He exited the car and walked inside with two bodyguards behind him. Everyone there noticed Melvis, who walked confidently wearing fancy clothes.

One of the female employees approached Melvis politely. "Excuse me, is there anything I can help you with? It looks like you're here for the first time. I just saw you."

"Yes, I'm here to see someone. Where is Charles?" Melvis looked around, searching for Charles' whereabouts.

The female employee's brow furrowed. "Mr. Charles is in his room. Did you have a prior appointment with Mr. Charles?"

"I have," Melvis replied falsely. If he said he had not made an appointment with Charles, the female employee would make things difficult for him.

"Yes, I will inform Mr. Charles." The female employee bowed respectfully, then stepped behind the desk where the telephone was. She dialled Charles' secretary's phone. "A Mr Melvis is looking for Mr Charles. He says he has an appointment."

The secretary on the other side checked Charles' schedule for today but didn't find Melvis' name in the meeting book. "Don't let that person in. His name is not in today's schedule."

"Okay." The female employee hung up the phone to hear Charles' secretary, and then she approached Melvis again with a respectful bow. "I'm sorry, sir. You cannot meet Mr Charles today as your name is not on the schedule."

"Where is the room?" Melvis ignored the words of the female employee.

"I'm sorry, sir. You are not allowed to see him." The female employee was still polite and respectful to Melvis, but Melvis ignored her.

Melvis walked away, intending to find Charles' room, but the female employee stopped him. "Excuse me, sir. I have politely informed you that you cannot see Mr Charles today. Please come again another day."

Melvis was annoyed. He pushed the female employee's body into the desk. She was about to confront Melvis again, but one of his bodyguards pointed an index finger at the woman with a glare.

"Where is the room?" Melvis asked the woman sternly again.

The female employee was frightened as one of Melvis' bodyguards stood right in front of her with a sharp gaze. He raised his hand, pointing towards one of the doors in the corner of the room. "Over there."

Melvis and his two bodyguards headed straight to one of the doors in the corner of the room that was Charles' private office. The secretary, whose desk was near the door of Charles' room, immediately got up and blocked Melvis.

"Sorry, sir. You cannot enter his office." The secretary blocked Melvis firmly.

Melvis looked at the secretary with sharp eyes. "No one can stop me from entering here because this is my company, so I have the right to enter any room I want."

The secretary's brow furrowed. "What do you mean? You must be joking."

Melvis raised his right hand, and one of the bodyguards behind him took some papers from his small bag. Melvis took the papers and showed them to Charles' secretary. "This is proof of company ownership."

The secretary's eyes widened upon seeing the proof that Melvis was indeed the owner of the company and his position was certainly higher than Charles's. She immediately bowed her head respectfully. "My apologies, sir." She raised her right hand, pulled over and allowed Melvis to pass. "Please come in, sir."

Melvis handed the papers back to one of his bodyguards. He looked coldly at the secretary. "I will give Charles his punishment. No one is to enter the room, no matter what."

The secretary bowed her head while nodding slowly. "Yes, sir."

One of Melvis' bodyguards opened the door to the room and left it open. It surprised Charles to see Melvis just walk into his room.

Charles, examining some files on his desk, stopped what he was doing and faced Melvis with a sharp look.

"You are a man who doesn't know himself. What did you come here for? Are you still not satisfied with what I've done? Snatching your lover and destroying your life until you have nothing."

Melvis smiled slightly, looking coldly at Charles. "I already don't care about Leona and my life. You think, I have nothing, and you managed to destroy me? You are wrong. I've come to give you both punishment and retribution. This time, you are the one who will be destroyed."

Charles just realized that there were two bodyguards behind Melvis. He looked at the two all-black bodyguards, then grinned.

"How pretentious of you to hire people. Do you have the money to hire bodyguards? Cheapskate." He pointed at the two bodyguards. "Better yet, you guys just cooperate with me. It'll be more profitable than being with him. He'll only be able to give you a few dollars, but I can give you hundreds."

Melvis grinned at Charles' words. "You won't be able to pay them because they're already overpaid. Even your wages from working here for a few months won't pay them."

Charles clenched his fists tightly, not accepting that Melvis had insulted him. "Insolent. How much money do you have that you dare to insult me, damn it!"

Charles raised his hand, about to hit Melvis. But two men in black stepped forward, blocking and restraining Charles' hands. One of the bodyguards twisted Charles' hand behind his back, as well as the other.

"Ah, damn it! Let go! What are you guys doing? You fools want to work with a poor man like him. He has no money, won't be able to pay you!" Charles ranted, trying to get the two bodyguards to cooperate with him.

Melvis raised his hand up and slapped Charles hard across the face. "You're the one who's insolent and shameless. You don't know where you stand."

Charles' jaw hardened. The corners of his lips ached and oozed a small amount of thick, red liquid. He tried to break free from the grip of the two bodyguards on his arms. However, the grip of the two black-clad men was so strong that Charles could not move.

"Damn it!" Charles spat on the floor, smearing the floor with red stains from his mouth. "Anybody, hurry up and help me! If you don't want to help me, I'll fire you all! Come quickly and throw them out of my room!"

Melvis landed another hard slap on Charles' face, bruising his cheek. Charles winced in pain. More and more people were coming in just daring to look. "What's going on? What's going on? Why did Mr. Charles get slapped like that?"

Charles' secretary pulled their arms and whispered something. "That was Mr Melvis, the owner of this company. He told me not to let anyone into Mr Charles' room, no matter what. We'd better keep quiet, don't interfere."

Charles shouted for help, but no one came inside to help him. He looked out the open door. All the employees who worked with him seemed frozen, just doing nothing.

"Hey, what are you guys doing? You idiots, why are you standing there looking at me like that? Hurry up and help me, damn it!" Charles was angry at all his employees. He tried to break free again but couldn't.

"Already, just let him be. Let's just say that this is also a retribution for his bad attitude." The employees outside Charles' room whispered to each other, remembering the bad behaviour Charles had done to them.

"Yes, that's right. Feel that! He once slapped me because I copied a file wrong and even cut my salary in half. Even though I had already re-copied it." Other employees also complained about Charles' bad behaviour.

Charles always gave orders at will. He even scolded employees for trivial matters, threatening them with dismissal if they did not obey his orders. However, they couldn't help because they didn't want to lose their jobs. They all knew the one who beat Charles had a higher position than Charles.

Melvis smiled as he saw Charles looking miserable. He grabbed Charles by the collar. "No one dares to help you. You were chosen by the higher-ups here to be the leader, but you can no longer work here. You will be replaced and you must get out of here!"

The company Charles worked for was owned by the Tucker family but under another owner's name. So, Melvis had the right to do anything to Charles, including replacing Charles' current position with someone else.

Charles laughed. He couldn't believe what Melvis was saying. "Are you out of your mind? You're a lowly person, there's no way you can knock me out of my current position! You idiot!"

Melvis snorted in annoyance at Charles' laughter, that could still be heard echoing in the room. Melvis turned his body around, walked towards the door, and then closed it with a bang that startled all the employees.

Melvis turned his body around again. He walked slowly toward Charles. "I can drop your position right now."

Charles chuckled in annoyance while shaking his head. "Is my life so miserable that you fantasize about being rich? You idiot. Are you so hurt that you're mentally disturbed?"

Melvis grinned as she raised the sleeves of her luxurious dress to the elbow. Melvis' eyes flashed with anger. He raised his hand, then landed a hard punch on Charles' face, making the corner of the man's lip bleed fresh blood again.

"Damn it!" Charles was getting angrier at Melvis, but he couldn't do anything because the two bodyguards still held down his arms.

Melvis landed a few more punches on Charles' face, then moved to Charles' stomach, causing the man's body to bend in pain. Melvis vented his anger, frustration, and pain over the years about Leona's betrayal and his anger at Charles.

"Stop it! Mercy! I can't take it anymore." Charles grimaced in pain every time Melvis' punches hit his body.

Both of Charles' legs were already weak. Repeatedly his body wavered, almost falling down. But the two bodyguards kept him upright so Melvis could beat Charles' face and stomach more freely.

Charles was knocked down by Melvis' punch to his stomach. The two bodyguards pulled him back to his feet. Charles clasped his hands together in front of his chest weakly. "Mercy. That's enough. I apologize to you, Melvis. I can't take it anymore."

"You're sorry? Where was that big-mouthed Charles who insulted me earlier? You think my pain will just go away when you apologize?" Melvis continued to beat Charles until he was satisfied.

Melvis' fists were red from how hard he hit Charles. The two bodyguards let go of Charles' arms, causing him to fall to the floor with a bloodied and bruised face. He was already limp and helpless.

Melvis pulled his sleeves back down and straightened his suit. He felt relieved that he had vented his anger and frustration on Charles. "As of today, you are fired! And this is ...." Melvis reached into his coat pocket, took out all the small change, and threw it right into Charles' face. "This is your severance pay!"
