Beneath The Surface

Dave turned his head and was met with the Lily who had a shocked expression on her face on seeing him. He narrowed his eyes. This woman seemed to be everywhere after his divorce, he glanced at the man beside her who was holding her like they were some couple and he couldn’t help but shake his head.

The man beside her exuded an air of pride. He was dressed in rather expensive wears. His eyes had dark circles beneath them with a lustful gaze as he stared at Sophia. He must be a frequent drunk and womanizer.

Was this the woman he had married?

Jumping into the arms of any man who was rich and would want to have her? Who knows, while he had kept late nights waiting for his wife? She had been out, warming the beds of rich men.

Lisa glanced at the ladies beside Dave and she found one to be particularly beautiful. Even more beautiful than her, she looked like a very rich lady because she had the pose of a noble. Jealously crept into her bones and she glanced at Dave with disdain.

“So after our divorce, you found another rich lady to leech off from? I thought you have changed after getting a job at the Wellingtons’ but I guess I was wrong. A leopard can never lose its spot.”

“This will be interesting. An old flame,” Clementine smiles slyly with interest. She had been looking for ways to deal with Dave but one glance from her sister seemed to have dispelled all thoughts from her head.

Sophia was not someone who could get angry easily but if she did, it was an uncontrollable rage ad she wouldn’t want to incur her sister’s wrath. She would just have to wait for them both to get married.

“And I can see that you have attained another bed to climb on to. You really do not have shame, Lily,” Dave said shaking his head, feeling pity for himself for wasting his feelings over a woman who didn’t worth it one bit.

“How dare you insult my woman?” The man beside her barked furiously. Dave glanced at him, raising a brow. “You are not worthy for me to speak to.”

The man busted into laughter as well as Lily.

“Dave, you must have grown some wings ever since you got a job at the Wellingtons and became an ally with Master Brandon,” Lily sneered. “Who do you think you are to say that my man here isn’t worthy of you speaking to? Do you know who he is?”

Sophia glanced at Dave. She really didn’t know the identity of the man in front of her. So he was actually an employee of the Wellington’s Company and he couldn’t afford decent clothes for himself? And he was acquainted with Master Brandon?

She had to dig deeper into this immediately!

“Who is he then?” Dave asked out of curiosity.

Lily smiled slyly as she introduced him. “Jayden Smith, the next in-line to become the helmsman of the Smiths.”

“The Smiths are one of the pillars of the city. Second to the Radfords, who are at the apex of the business sector,” Sophia said.

Jayden smiled widely, revealing a dentition of yellow teeth. He has been drooling at the sight of Sophia ever since he saw her. “My lady, you have heard of my family.”

Lily went red with anger. Who exactly is this woman that she had both of the men she admired dancing at her feet? First, she had Dave and now, Jayden?

“Of course, I have heard about your family. But, this is the first time I’m hearing about you. The first son of the Smith, his name isn’t Jayden, if I’m not mistaken,” Sophia said, looking towards her sister’s direction. “Indeed, his name was James,” Clementine replied with a nod.

Dave began to sneer in his heart. So this big fish was just a liar after all!

“Huh?” Lily mouthed in disbelief. “That’s not true at all. Jayden prove your identity to them. Can’t you both see how expensively he is dressed?” Lily snapped.

Jayden, who had a layer of sweat on, immediately composed him and arranged his suit on hearing Lily’s words, “You must be mistaken, ma’am. My name is indeed Jayden and as well as James. My middle name is James, but Lily here, knows me as Jayden as a pet name.”

“Yes, yes. His name is also James.”

Dave couldn’t help but burst into laughter earning a glare from Lily.

Sophia smiled and said, “Do you know that you can be imprisoned for impersonation?”

Jayden’s legs began to tremble. The layer of sweat had begun to spread throughout his whole body. Anyone could see that he was lying but Lily kept on defending him not wanting to lose face.
